Toothbrush mustache having Austrian man's plans for if he dies: Successor somehow turns it around
Every credible successor's plans: Surrender to the Western allies, try not to have to deal with the Soviets and Stalin
There's always more going on, and I've read about it many times, and it makes sense given the history between Germany and the USSR and everything that I know from having lived in post-Communist Eastern Europe, but it's still wild to me that entire battles were fought just so people could get to the western lines and surrender to the western allies.

While humorous it's actually infuriating to see the effect the YT's utterly lazy and idiotic (de)monetisation rules have on legitimate videos on historical topics. And still so much dreck just slips through because those vid makers aren't concerned with monetisation but only with spreading hate and disinformation. Ah, but AI will soon save the Internet, won't it

Actually even if he didn't managed to make the anglo-americans conquer more, Doenitz's strategy worked pretty well: at the end of the war, only 27 % of the german troops were captured by the soviets, the rest was able to flee and surrender to the West. Given the amount of german troops previously engaged on the eastern front, this is a notable feat.

Allies: We are mortal and right!
Also allies: We will block civilians from fleeing the murder raping soviet horde.
Not that Nazis were better ( they were in fact worse) but shows how history is framed by the victors. Any defeated power doing that it would be called a war crime.

So Eisenhower condemned thousands of Germans to live under communism in East Germany because he didn't want them surrendering to the western ally powers! What a humanitarian and strategic thinker! Maybe he should have listened to Patton more often!

The fact that the allies allowed Doenitz to retain command of a Reich for 3 weeks from Flensburg, Germany at all is puzzling. I believe it was due more to a need for law and order in the country more than a need for a government and the allies knew it.

Donitz and his Operation Hannibal saved over a million people from the Soviets. Hardly inconsequential. Unlike Goring and Himmler, or Goebbels, Donitz cared about things other than his own future. That said, he was hardly the type to run a country.

This video doesn't even tell us the most basic thing it needs to. There were lots of German admirals, so what made Doenitz the choice above all others Was it his seniority within the German military Chief of Staff-type thing

The west not taking Donitzs offer and gobbling up Germany against the Soviets was a huge mistake. They doomed half of europe to communism and deliberately weakened their own positions against their future rival simultaneously.

It's amusing that in the end, German leadership kept fighting in order to HELP the Americans/Brits/French to conquer more of Germany, just to keep it away from the Soviets.
Unfortunately for them, that plan didn't work.

I've taken the liberty of drawing up a list of priorities:
- this is General Eisenhower's telephone number
- this is the English for we give up
- and this is a summary of our military situation in one rude word

You would think the Head of the SS. The most fanatical zealots of the Nazi Party would want to fight till the bitter end. Would actually try to broker peace with the Allies. Well that came out of nowhere.

It is obvious how late and how already everything was messed up, so there was no fixing in any way. When you think of it, it was messed up and late to be fixed for waaayyyy too much time.

can someone make a toothbrush mustache having Austrian man dub over the wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube man clip from family guy. I think it'd fit with another adjective

The fact that the nazis were so desperate to surrender to the allies over the soviets tells you which side was more hostile to fascism. It was the same thing with Japan.

what a world we live in where we can't even call a very prominent historic figure by name and have to resort to conjecture, muddling and dooming history to repeat itself

What if you get a patron whose legal name is the same as that of the Toothbrush mustache-having Austrian man Don't you have to still call him by his (unfortunate) name
