It's (not) funny how they talk about Africa like it was this sparsely populated land just waiting to be settled and cultivated.
The land was STOLEN, the resources were STOLEN, the art was STOLEN, the culture was STOLEN, the history was STOLEN, the people were STOLEN, RAPED, TERRORIZED, MURDERED.

If you think about it, the USA got exactly what it wanted now. They destroyed the colonial empires ganranting the strength of France and England Who could have been potential rivals, they financed civil war in every young states to ensure there would always be warring kingdoms and warlords from wich they can buy cheap materials and sell weapons. Africa is the american dream.

What I love about US is its commitment to open trade, both in the past and today (with the exception of Trump's idiotic trade war with China. Free trade is the best thing that has happened to the planet Earth - even in the ancient societies, it encouraged progress and gave everyone the opportunity to break through, whether by production or trade of products and services.

US gets so much shet for slavery meanwhile Europe including Belgium did far worse and they literally stole the continent and made slaves of everyone. The main difference is you wont see Belgium making their version of 12 years a Slave. US is always reflective of its mistakes while most other countries bury their shameful past.

He already had strong business on the continent, and they emerged from a civil war. They created Liberia to deport former slaves there but it was not successful. This seems logical to venture into a colonial war.
