Many gained land from their axis occupiers in World War 2. The Dutch did not. So why? Ben: I don't know much about these kinds of historical things. I just assume that we as The Netherlands know that we are a little cou try and we are just putting a lot of afford in staying (or right after a war: becoming) very good friends with our neighbours. Because we can't win any fight. So we'd better stay in very good terms with them, so we don't have to fight at all.
And meanwhile, by being a NATO-member we pay the Americans to protect us. Because they like to fight and being involved in wars, so they can play the hero roll.
Fine by me!

Here in Belgium we did get to keep the land Germany was forced to give to us after WW1 and they still speak German there and the people are super chill. Though, Netherlands never took part in WW1 and as mentioned in this video Germany had to hand over A LOT after that war and we all know what happened next. We also got Rwanda and Burundi after WW1 and some bad stuff happened and thankfully they're independent now (even if they still have a lot of stuff to work on, but hey, which country doesn't)

Where is says Literally 0. 01km2, that's not correct. The part the Dutch kept is the Duivelsberg(Devil's hill) and it's about 1. 25km2. Most of it is a nature reserve that's mostly closed to the public. It's probably one of the most beautiful parts of the Netherlands (which says quite a lot about we treated the rest of the country.

As good as it is not to take huge part of lands of others, it strikes me that the British (again and again and again) decided to say no because it didnt directly sooted themselves. If the British could prove there was a tiny drop of seawater by the Dutch coast actually was British they would have claimed halve of Northern Europe.

They might had been more focused on Indonesia, where they invaded right after freed from the German Occupation in a brutally way, to stop any arising independence demands of the Indonesian habitant.
Well, not different to the French with Algeria and England with India or Rhodesia!

The Dutch did too little to free themselves. In fact there were too many collaborators and so other nations did the fighting for them and freed them from the Nazi scum. One cannot expect to be rewarded when others do the dirty work and die in the process!

And so the Dutch continuoud in the years that followed with creating a whole new province in an area which previously stood under water. Thus Flevoland was born. Although effectively this process was already started before the war.

Wow, would've loved to live in a dutch annexed Ruhrgebiet, just imagine how far improved the infrastructure, schools and overall design would've been.
(Edit: Erm, I'm pretty sure that's not where Hamburg is)

Het meeste grondgebied verkreeg het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden in 1816 van Pruisen: Duiven, Wehl, Zevenaar, Groessen, Huissen, Beek, Didam, Westervoort, Lobith en Spijk.

The Netherlands lost the war. Being freed from occupation is not winning a war. You that by actually winning.
PS: and they lost all the colonies also.

reply

Netherlands did absolutely nothing during both world wars, they should have lost the 3 provinces that they stole from Belgium and given them back

Correction: Yugoslavia was not compensated by Italian territory. Only the shameful secret Treaty of London and consequent Treaty of Rapallo were reversed.

Another fun fact: In the place Elten which converted back to Germany there is still a restaurant named in Dutch Het oude posthuis (The old post office.

I never knew the netherlands tried to get land in the first place, it's very interesting how different my country could've looked after the war

1: 09 did you put those names there? Pretty sure thats not where Hamburg is
Edit: guess ur confusing it with Hamm

reply

As a bicyclist you can tell exactly where the Netherlands start. The land suddenly drops 10m and never rises again.
reply

Why no one talked about the fact that Hamburg is located on the north see and no where close to Dortmund? xD
reply

I do not ever speak German cause I do not want to. Said all of The Netherlands, Pays Bas, Dutch, Holland.
