2. They were only a nation in name. They were just a bunch of basically independent nations. The ones with the best coastline probably couldn-t afford it. I guess the only nation that technically colonized america was the Netherlands. Which left the HRE. And Spain, I know a Habsburg king of Spain was once a emperor of the HRE. Austria, the de facto leader of the HRE could only get there through the strait of Gibraltar which Spain could just refuse. There was also the time they controlled Belgium.

North Carolina is full of evidence of Hanover and Mecklenburg Strelitz. Charlotte, NC is named after Queen Charlotte and in Mecklenburg county. Wilmington, NC is named after George's son William IV of Britain who was also the King of Hanover. Wilmington is in New Hanover county. The key is to look for these names in the United States and look at the monarchs of sovereign countries who were also nobility in HRE provinces. It's hidden in plain sight.

Let's be real: Little Venice was a disaster specifically because the boys continually wasted resources searching for the elusive -free lunch- El Dorado. If they had tempered their greed and only explored the land as they developed it for farms and towns they would have something to show for their troubles.
But yeah, England, France, Spain, (Netherlands) were relatively centralized powers while the HRE was more of a confederacy in practice than a unitary state.
Was Germany really at a disadvantage during the World Wars? Seems like they faired very well in spite of little to no colonies.

Europeans already had a sea route to India and China. We Italians had control over it. But Ottomans closed that route and the discovery of the new world (made by us, thanks again) allowed other European to become powers.
In a single moment in history both the Italian Marittime City-States and the Hanseatic League was cut off the trades by two sides.
But as I said, we had the control over the sea trade towards India and China.

So Charles V was the emperor of the HRE. Therefore controlling Spain and the Netherlands who had huge colonies but yet the HRE had no colonies? That Roman capo-regime was neither Holy, nor an Empire. It was just an ancient mafia family grabbing other people's lands. I doubt that they even built that collosium or any sculptures. All those megaliths might have been there during Greek civilization thousands of years ago.

A confusing video. Your map includes the Netherlands as part of the HRE but their colonisations in the Americas and Asia occurred at the same time as those of England, Spain, France etc. they were also independent of the HRE at that time so should not be included on that map

They had no colonies because the HRE was contracts and treaties and just an administrative empire. Where electors would elect a Roman emperor.

The USA has a huge portion of its population being of German ancestry. They did have colonies. They're just not labeled that way. USA got labeled as British colonies, but tons of Germans back in the early days.
