Italian states at that time were the centre of the word. Italy was the richest place on earth, in control of the european finance, part of sea trade and manufactory, a couple of Italian city could rise an army to face the holy roman empire or france, Italian architecture technology art were starting the renaissance. there is no way that Mehmet would have conquer Italy

If the Ottoman Empire had tried to invade Italy I feel like it would be like them smacking a hornet's nest. The Pope would shit himself and probably threaten every ruler in Europe with excommunication if they don't join the defense. I exaggerate a little of course but you get the idea.

Its a bit sad that however, Skandebeg and Vlad Tepes were mentioned as reasons why the Ottomans had no power to subjugate the italian kingdoms, there was nothing said about the campaigns led by the Hunyadi family into the heart of the balkan peninsula.

Answer is simple. It was worthless. Atilla, Cengiz and Kanuni Sultan Suleiman could do it if they really wanted at time. As i know Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han had started the invasion of Rome by taking Corfu castle, but he passed away later.

put simply
they weren't all that capable. condotierri were still too hard to face in the field.
even in their city-states predicament. each italian faction was defensively too capable for Ottomans.
this is no secret lol

We Turks were not good at seamanship. We had bad seamanship because we immigrated from Asia, but we were among the strongest warriors on land. Rest assured, if Italy had been in the Balkans, we would have ruled over you too.

It was not easy to take Italy with its high number of large towns and city walls I guess. It was not the balkans but much more structured. Imagine getting to Venice or Florence; not possible. Italy played a home match.

If the Turks had conquered Italy, they would have disappeared as an empire because all the Christian countries would have united, and they would have destroyed Ottoman Empire, was too much risky for the Ottomans-

Simple; they stopped to enjoy the pizza, pasta and ice cream on the way and forgot about the conquest. By the time they remembered they were too fat to move.

hello from Turkey. -
The reason why the Turks did not conquer Italy was that Fatih Sultan Mehmet Khan was killed while he was about to attack Italy.

The short answer is that because of Albania and their great leader Skanderbeg the Ottoman's never expanded into western Europe or Italy.

The Ottomans were able to conquer Byzantium because Rome had betrayed Byzantium and allowed it to fall.
