Tidiane N'diaye, a Senegalese Anthropologist wrote an interesting book called The Veiled Genocide, available in French only unfortunately.

Congratulations for the effort! There is a small mistake in the map. The three Romanian Principalities (Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania) were NEVER part of the Ottoman Empire, they were only allied vassal countries. that is. The northern border of the Ottoman Empire was always at the Danube. There were never mosques in the Romanian principalities and Muslims never had the right to live.

Ottomans couldn't care less about Iceland, or North Africa for that matter. Ottoman rule in Algeria and Morocco was only nominal and in practice the local rulers didn't even pay any tributes. It's not that the Ottoman sultans were too busy with internal strife or campaigning in Europe to partake in the raids, it's just that they probably weren't even aware of Iceland's existence.

Jan Janszoon is pronounced (more or less) as Yahn Yahnszohn. The English -oo- is written as -oe- in Dutch.
