How did the Reconquista Actually Happen? As for the Jews, the Spaniards saw themselves under pressure from the rest of the Europeans. England had already expelled the Jews a century before, the French the same as the rest of Europe, in fact, at the time the Europeans accused us of being a pig, which was being half-Jewish. and a half Moor but it is already known that scientific racism comes from England and heugenesia practiced in the USA in Germany and northern Europe for reasons of improving the race\r\n

It's never mentioned that there's a possibility that the Reconquista benefited from the Mongol Invasions splitting the focus of the Arabic forces as their biggest threat by far lay to the east, not to the west, there wasn't a big point in in other Caliphates sending North Africa any major reinforcements when you just had a massive genocide of millions of people in Persia.

Is it really a -reconquering- if the people doing it (descendants from Visigoths and Suebi) weren-t even technically native to the region. The goths were originally from eastern Europe and the Suebi were from Germany and both settled in post-Roman Iberia. And didn-t Africans (Carthaginians) live there six hundred years before the Visigoths. History sure is interesting.

Random fun fact: by the later stages of reconquista, the christian kings started to REALLY get into chess and other board games like backgammon and after the fall of Granada, under the Catholic Monarchy, chess was reinvented to add the Queen as the most powerful piece, letting bishops move as far as they wanted, and started using the game for dating

I have read some History of Sicily and Sardinia. They were the -bread baskets- of much of mainland Europe. Under Moslem rule, Christian and Jews were allowed to worship as they please, engage in trade and were not subject to oppression. When any Christian monarch, like Phillip of France. Moslems and Jews suffered Persecution and exile

How funny that you always start the history of al andluis by jumping with a parachute that the muslim took it as if there was no one living there before. start the history where is should. the christians that u made the reqoncista lived for 90 years only making them the least group of people living in the iberian peninsula

Very informative. This was the first invasion by the Muslims into Europe. The Crusades was the reaction and then the Ottoman Muslims went as far as the gate of Vienna until the Polish Hussars let by Sobieski routed the Turks. We should have reconquered Constantinople, and never let them remain on European soil.

I always wonder, why do the English speak of the -infamous- Spanish Inquisition when, in fact, it was the least infamous. With historical records in hand, it was the least deadly in all of Europe. The truth is simple - there has always been a hatred towards Spain, and the Black Legend is there to tell the story.

Fun fact, the catalonian kingdom never existed. In Catalonia there were several counties, most notably the county of Barcelona, but never a kingdom. Through marriage, those counties became united to the kingdom of Aragon, which was the only kingdon known to the middle age inhabitants of Catalonia.

As for Granada, you say so yourself, although you do not relate it. Granada is taken because there is a new Muslim empire that begins to dominate the Mediterranean and the kingdom of Granada is a bridgehead for the Ottomans, which means that the invasion was something predictable

I think the reason why Muslim fall to the hands of christian:
1. mongols invasion
2. corruption of the govern and king
3. aided from central Asia reinforcement
4. civil war
5. conflicts between the power
That's why Muslim never retake the spania. ----

How can you talk about the Kingdom of Catalonia? In reality, this video is not accurate at all with the Spanish's history. In Catalonia, there was only a group of counties, first under the rule of Charlemagne, and later under the Crown of Aragon; they were never a kingdom.

How do you like to lie to the Anglos about others?
The inquisition in 300 years sentenced to death no more than 2, 000 people. I think the English had the sport of killing Catholics and the Germans burned thousands of women and the French massacred Hugons.

The Reconquista was essentially over after the 1212 Navas de Tolosa battle, took a little over 500 years to complete in reality. Then it lingered on for 2 and a half more centuries cause Castille and Leon allowed it to, since it was economically beneficial.

I often talk to Africans of different origins, and they always incriminate the Europeans of being arrogant and avid invaders.
However, when I remind them of this part of the history, and the Carthage invasion as well, they suddenly get disoriented.

reply

Cool video thanks. But the term of invaders was no longer accurate for muslim kingdoms and their cities and culture they built after some centuries.
It's like saying that actually americans are invaders and that a native reconquest it's needed.

The word -Catalunia- doesn't exist, it's Catalonia in English with O or -Catalunya- in Catalan language but the NY is not equivalent in sound to I in English but to -GN- in Italian or French (Catalogna, Catalogne) or -NH- in Portuguese (-Catalunha-)

In my country, some cheese brain Muslims think reconquesta happened in one battle and less than a week! They say evil Christian spread corruption between Muslims in several year and attacked and captured Spain in few days!

i appreciate your intellectual honesty. often times, when discussing the Reconquista there's a tendency of folks to gloss over the formation of the kingdom of Portugal, treating it as a side note

You talked about Granada being economically beneficial to the Spanish kingdom. Why is that? Is it because they could trade freely with nations in Africa due to their religion?

As a hispanic im glad half my heritage came from Spain. Proud men that kicked out and cleansed the spanish lands from dirty arabs and their false religion.
