Why is Cuba Communist?

With economic ties completely severed, its basically a Taboo topic unless youre Floridian or Puerto Rican. Why talk about Cuba if you dont know anyone from there or have any business ties to the country?
Though it seems funny how Cuba follows the Marxist-Leninist principles of Communism far more closely than China or Vietnam does. Though it creates the exact same problems. Cuba has many doctors, but they are so poorly trained you might as well let a man die. Plus they make less than a resort worker who is allowed capitalist freedoms.
I hope Cuba gets its freedom one day, and not in the way Diaz sees it.\r\n

unlike popular belief, Cuban revolutionaries weren't truly Marxist, because Soviets weren't real Communists, Soviet Union was a Centralized Fascist State with Welfare and that's just not what Communism is, and Castro's ideology just revolved around being anti-American more than anything else, dude was nuts, plus it wasn't just their policies that ruined Cuba, the U. S. had a huge part in it and still does, I donno why people pretend like Embargoes, massive Sanctions and having the most powerful countries being against you had no effect on Cuba being poor, it was just 'Communism'?

I find it so strange how in the Communist Manifesto, Marx talks about taking the power from Bourgeoise(the rich capitalist)and giving it back to the Proletariat(the workers, which means in a Communist Utopia the means of production is in the hands of the community of workers(which the word Communism comes from, but in Soviet Union and Cuba there was nothing like that at all, so they weren't really Marxists, they were Leninists and Lenin became completely Authoritarian after he rose to power, in fact Lenin immediately crushed unions and any sort of labor and pro-worker movement

cuba was not a -colony- as was consider integral part of spain, and one region more, and the other american countries they were their own entities calle virrenatos with their onw goverments, but everyone was conider a citizens, a peasant in madrid has the same rights that a peasant in ecuador, as you see most of the population are natives or mixed, the -colonies- of the English and french were quite different, where the natives were entirely displaced and only the population was imported from the -motherland-

On July 11, 2021 there was a mass protest around the whole island. The people want freedom, democracy, multi party elections, justice, separation of power. The totalitarian dictatorship in power do not want to let go of power. Their people are dying of hunger, disease, and abuses at the hand of their oppressors. They are unarmed and all the money, even tourist dollars, are used to keep the Cubans in line

That-s not the order I was taught. Cuba-s relationship with the Soviet Union didn-t start until America cut Cuba off because they had decided not to maintain a capitalist economy. The American press oligarchs had been assured he would maintain ties with the US, which would allow them to control the terms. They saw him as being no more radical than a western social-democratic party. Good video though.

Your world maps (that juxtapose the US in blue and Cuba and The Soviet Union in red, fail to place Alaska and Hawaii as blue. As you know, Castro took power in Cuba in Early 1959 and Alaska and Hawaii officially became states only a few months later in 1959. Even before that though, they were US territories - as Puerto Rico and USVI still are to this day- so they should be blue as well!

I find this video lacking in depth details. Not saying you guys didn't do research and spend hours making the video but the overall simplicity and result being no concrete answer to the title question is disapponiting. It does inspire me to make my own videos on the subject of Cuba.

Castro wasn't a commited communist at the beginning of the revolution, rather followed the idea of national liberation. But his brother Raul Castro and his guerilla commander Che Guevara were communists and very likely convinced Fidel that he should follow this route.

A large part of our population does support socialism in our country, that is why the government does not fall, as the United States would like. The video is very simplistic and very partial, with the imposition of the Platt Amendment they turned us into a neocolony.

Just forgot that Batista's reign was funded and heavily supported by the US, and that before the revolution, the island was basically a US colony. And just for the sake of quality, there wasn't any -communist- country in history, only socialist ones.

Both being former Spanish and American Colony, it is Cuba that is closer (geographically) to US that become Communist, while the Phillipines that is just a stone throw away from China and Vietnam that still Capitalist
