What happened in the United States during the Great Depression?

What happened in the United States during the Great Depression? In typical non analytical fashion people just comment on how bad Hoover was and great Roosevelt was. Neither fixed the depression. Why? it was as the video says, raising taxes and increased government spending- the tired refrain from people ignorant of any economic reality.
Increase taxes on people not working and businesses trying to stay afloat so the government can swoop in as some mighty savior to dole out some crumbs.
Truly sad how ignorant some people are and how uncritically they embrace anything they hear from a professor or teacher without the intellectual curiosity to investigate the matter themselves. And then just feel confident they came to the correct conclusion because other people they know believe the same thing.
I suppose there is comfort in consensus even if you are wrong you are not alone.\r\n

Herbert Hoover wouldn't bail out the private sector. He Said if he bailed out the private Sector it will never stop. The Main thing that got us back up on our feet and out of the Depression was WW2 and The US Dollar being the world's reserve Currency. Theres Overseas Countrys that are Dumping the US Dollar for the Chinese Money. Youre about to experience times like you have never seen before

One thing we have to remember that everyone forgets is that FDR was a eugenicist and a Ku Klux Klan sympathizer who put Japanese-Americans in internment camps and didn-t let Jesse Owens visit him in the White House. Also, his New Deal policies weren-t liked by everyone, and there were even proposals to create two new states out of rural regions that felt unrepresented by their state governments.

One thing that I always found interesting is that several academic studies have proven that FDR's policies, such as the -New Deal-, extended the economic troubles for years. It was only WW2 which ended the economic troubles.
Oh, and keep in mind, the Federal Reserve doesn't answer to We the People. It's an independent organization.
Finally, government should never fix the economy.

reply

The great depression was cause partly because the federal reserve fail to do its job and example was failure to help the Bank of the United States. Keysian economics doesn't work, the new deal was a failure. Free market economic is the way to go without government intervention. However, free market is blame without merits for theincompetence. of congress to enact more regulatory policies.

I used to think everybody went broke during the Great Depression and other major crashes but they didn-t- Some made millions, I also thought everybody went out of business during these times but they didn-t, some went into business, there's always depression/recession for some people and there's always a good time for others, it's all about perspective.

The real reason for the depression and stock market crash. We had a very positive trade balance and this was powering our economy. So the idiots that usually run our country decided to install crippling tariffs, and that deprived the USA of substantial trade surpluses. This resulted in a stock market crash, and that was followed by a depression.
reply

The cause of the depression was the stock market itself. It is a Ponzi scheme and it's value is subjective and has always been used to make the rich richer by giving them access to the general populations money. If there was not a stock market, there would never have been a depression.

It was bad monetary policy. To counter the hyperinflation happening in Europe in the 1920s. Fredrick Hyack was from Austria and the leading economist of the time and they had hyper inflation. I feel we are living the same way today having George Soros the fascist lead the way today
reply

what happened was people panicked. had they just left their money in they would have recovered 100% in 6 years. of course this does not included the dopes that leveraged everything. They were SOL, but for the average investor they would have been fine.
reply

FDR was one of if not the worst president we've ever had because of how horrendously he hurt America durin the depression we're still dealin with so many of his policies that hurt us then and they've gotten worse and are still ravagin our economy now
reply

You talk about the supreme court as if it's a partisan group and not one of the only ways Americans are protected against losing constitutional rights. FDR never thought that what he wanted was unconstitutional. He just wanted to rig the system.
reply

This is why capitalism can't be allowed to do as it pleases.
This shit keeps happening, no one is ever actually punished, people are never actually helped and then ten years later it happens the exact same way all over again.

How could the US loan countries so much money/weapons/equipment during and after ww2 if they were still in the depression? Top 3 presidents: George Washington, Abe Lincoln, FDR. Only the rich people don't like FDR
reply

Of course the SCOTUS opposed FDR-s efforts because they were socialist moves that have hurt the country long term. And< the elderly man wondering around DC claiming to be president thinks he is FDR.
reply

People in the comments trying to rewrite history lmao. Why is our country currently in the mess its in? Hmmm deregulation, so why do you think deregulation would've worked during the great depression?
reply

FDR's ideas were so great, that on Dec. 7th 1941 WE WERE STILL AT 16% UNEMPLOYMENT!
His ideas were bad, and we're suffering EVERYTHING that those Republicans were afraid of 80 years ago.

reply

No mention of the UNCONSTITUTIONAL -Mexican Repatriation-? Where Hoover approved of the DISGUSTING opperation to illegally deport over a million Americans of Mexican descent or looked Mexican!

Black Tuesday was in 1929, not 1928.
-On October 29, 1929, -Black Tuesday- hit Wall Street as investors traded some 16 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange in a single day. -

It was World War II and then being a lender to western european countries that ended the great depression in the USA. All the employment from the war ended with a much better position for the USA.

Yup, they suddenly ran out of inches. couldn't measure anymore. The biggest scam in American history from which many profited like never before. Naughty, naughty. naughty.

FDR damaged the Constitution and placed government far too much into private business and into the lives of private citizens. Robert Castello Dixie General Store Heflin Alabama
reply

Yep. Taking us off the gold standard is why inflation exists today and He got us into WW2 because he wanted war that's why he started provoking Japan. An overrated president
reply

how can you trust anything this person says if he can't even get the year correct -- He states the market crash happened in 1928 and it happened in 1929.
reply

The new deal didn-t bring us out of the depression. WW2 did. That brought jobs back. Massive spending accruing massive debts only bankrupts countries.
reply

FDR was a disaster of unbelievable proportion pre ww2. Everything he touched was a socialist dream which we now are horrendously trapped in now.
reply

-knowledgia Your information is off, Wall Street did not experience a crash in 1928. It happened a year later than you explain it in the video
reply

The Great Depression could have been the reason for WW2. Sparking radical ideologies in all of Europe which was badly affected by it.
reply

Don-t forget that FDR put Japanese Americans, German Americans and Italian Americans in Internment Camps which is Un-Constitutional.
