Why should you be practising with a metronome? Good rhythm and tempo are essential for all musicians. Find out how the metronome can help you practice. In this music performance lesson we consider the value of using a metronome. Musicians are divided on the question of how much use should be made of the metronome. Some take the view that it-s sole purpose should be to set a tempo but shy away from using a metronome while playing, on the basis that it generates an unmusical outcome. Ultimately, the aim should be to develop a reliable internal metronome but, until that point is reached, some performers rush or slow down when rhythmic patterns change or when passages become especially demanding. Thanks for this. I played -Harmonie Des Ange- (?) for a long time in what I thought was pretty good until someone set a metronome and I realised I played it far too slowly. However, I still prefer my chosen -pulse-. You-ve encouraged me to use my metronome. Thank you.

I have a terribly unstable pulse! When playing piano/keyboard and singing! Our musical director has made me watch this! Am I beyond redemption?
