I think you need to be much clearer about the difference between therapeutic arts activities and the Arts Therapies which are Art therapy, Dramatherapy, music therapy and dance movement therapy. The arts can have significant therapeutic benefits but are not therapies. The Art therapies are different because the individual facilitating (in the UK) must have a masters in the art therapy they choose and the title is protected by law. Meaning they must adhere to a high standard of ethics and code of conduct as well as have on going supervision, and personal therapy when needed. Going to an Arts therapist (an umbrella term for any of the above) means you will be held and facilitated in a way that helps you express, reflect and most importantly process your experience issues/needs etc. The Arts therapies are more psychologically in-depth than doing a creative activity that has therapeutic benefit, as not only do you project the internal externally there is space to explore and process this, witnessed by a professional. Hope that helps x

Well, I play drums, dance flamenco, paint, write, sketch and go to theater classes which have helpped me a lot
Theater has helpped me to talk more and louder (just in a correct hearable volume)
Visual arts relax me and make me love the enciroment arround me, it gave me some friends
Dancing helped me to love my body and to contrrol myself but also eat the correct amount of food
Drums put out my anger, make me stronger, find music in everything, to respect humanity, it makes me feel useful
Writing makes me like to read, appriciate my life, to think out of the box, to have disscretion, to fillosofic thinking in a possitive way, etc.
I recommend to do one or more of this activities and to have profecional help
I find this like boost or powerups for the proffecional help(but it might help you anyway no matter how)
(Thanks for uploading a video in my birthday)

watches the video from wondering how the arts can help let one have better mental health
notices how I basically naturally gravitate to all of these and even want to learn how to dance more while also having. mental issues with a probably unhealthy amount of negativity in my mentality for self-related issues
Hot dang is this veeeeeery coincidental as to what I do for myself, I didn't know this was an official thing to do to keep one's mental state healthier. No wonder even with things turning for the worse I'm somehow not drowning in as much negativity as before (though I am happy that I am sort of subonsciously helping myself by basically doing and wanting to do all of these)

For me theatre and dance trigger embarrassing memories which is counter productive, listening to music (even though I wouldn't survive a day, maybe even an hour without it) doesn't really work, because different songs are for different moods (mostly to emphasise those moods) which makes the whole activity a self-destructing one. Performing? Rather trying to perform, because I'm shit at playing a guitar. Drawing? I just can't get into this back again since January, because of depression. I just can't draw having a depressing mood. And worst of all, I'm a perfectionist, but without any inner will to move forward.

The video begins by stating how expensive it is to access therapists and extols the benefits of art therapy being easy to access and inexpensive, then goes on to say how each art therapy requires a therapist to analyse the client which just suggests to me that art therapy would cost just as much as any other therapy. Is this true in the US? In my experience (in England, any kind of therapy is either incredibly expensive or entails a waiting list of up to 18 months. Mental health provision here is very poor and underfunded, with a lot of stigma still prevalent and given a low priority by professionals.

I think acting and dance is pretty dumb as a therapy because you just end up looking like an idiot, or at least feel like one, unless you are good at it. But music is the best as anyone can listen to music or feel the beat of rythmn, ans kusic is proven to have a transformatice effect on thoughts and emotions. Art is kinda in the middle, as long as you don't have to display anything, then it doesn't matter if you draw like a 4 year old, but there is still potential for looking like a tool.

I also love listening to music especially Hamilton
I also like to act. I'm not a professional but I enjoy playing a different characters that are nothing like me and getting to play someone else.

I go to a psychologist a couple of times a month just to help me cope with family problems etc and I have made a collage out of diffrent pictures ones but nothing else close to art therapy. I like freestyle dancing and I think that if someone with the same interest or someone who does the things you mentioned as art therapy as a hobby can draw some fun out of therapy time and maybe improve his or her skill (in that activity.

It's hard, though, when you're very self-critical, to make art at all. I'm very artistic with severe Depression and anxiety, so I end up criticizing the results instead of letting emotions out. I guess it takes practice, but getting started is hard when you think you'll fail. I'll have to try again, though. I need to journal at the very least.

I've just recently began creating music (I'm pretty bad at it. but I'll get better because I love it) and I love listening to music. I do a lot of drawing and I write a ton of stories/poems. I noticed I smile more when I'm tapping away at my keyboard then when I'm sitting in a classroom surrounded by people who stress me out.

I love art therapy! The clinic that I work at offers an art class to clients as a way to learn to cope with emotions, learn to do different art things, and to socialize with others: )
I'd love to see a video on sand tray therapy. I did that when I was younger and I really enjoy it!

I love art therapy, but I also love my meds. They are what allow me to do the therapy work for recovery. I've seen many of my friends suffer, and some die, of mental illness after refusing their meds. Please, please don't paint mental health medications with a broad dangerous brush.

Yep. This is definitely a plus. I'm sure if I hadn't forced myself to practice art I wouldn't be here today. I suffered from depression quite badly a while back, and art made me better mentally. Sure I still have ups and downs, but doesn't everyone?

Ever since a character I Loved passed away and I have depression, Drawing him helps a lot. Im slowly starting to accept day by day, but its hard. For those people who want to get into art therapy, I also recommend Writing. It helps a lot.

I've been researching on how to be an art therapist and have already read the ATR - Provitional application handbook for art therapy at the age of 14, I now aim for high grades in hopes of being a licensed art therapist

Music is the sugar of my life, I listen, compose, sing, and dance daily, solid 3 hrs a day. I had a depression and during those times I cant enjoy music at all, music tasted bland, which frustrated me, its called anhedonia.

I'm right next to and in the midst of such absolute denial of mental illness. I try to remain cheerful, have unquit smoking (weed too) and drinking because I have to emerge mentally and physically healthy from the pandemic.

I actually do the 'art therapy' treatment at home by myself.
Whenever I'm feeling sad or mad, I either create songs expressing my feelings, draw or try to drown myself in performing my favorite stories

I think art therapy is an amazing way to help people. Even though I draw/color something everyday, I find the repetitive movement of the pencil on paper and get my ideas quite therapeutic

Thank God I have insurance that cover my meds. I also listen to music to help relax my mind as well as use adult coloring for reliving stress. So yes it does work.

Thank you for this. I usually feel more happy when I play my music and draw. I don't really have a good mindset, so I go into my words and play. Again, thank you.
