I used to accidentally forget to do something, because I was forgetful and would forget I was supposed to do this or that. (After doing my own research, I think I may have ADHD. Not self-diagnosing, just saying its possible. It also runs in the family) If I did that repeatedly, I would scream Im sorry! I wont do it again as my mother had me lie down on the bed facedown while she got the belt. She would always tell me sorry doesnt teach you anything. She constantly puts me down and says backhanded things. She talks about past things like it was my fault because she is too prideful to admit any mistake. I used to have tantrums, up until around eight. It would be almost semi-annually. I bottled up everything until I just exploded. I barely think of my mom as my mom anymore. I just think of her as my mother. I never had a good female role model, besides my sister. My mom has done so many things to me and my sister that I can barely talk to her some days. I tried to k! ll myself in sixth grade because I was getting bullied by people I thought were my friends. And what did she tell me? Oh, dont label yourself (I said I was depressed) like that. I never really thought about if it was abuse. I gaslighted myself into thinking it wasnt. Someone help me figure out my life, please.

No cause my dad has this classic joke that he likes to say every time we host or go to have dinner with a friend
If I ever reach or take smt even when I've only now had the chance to eat, he goes
'My name' control and even if ik this is a joke and he'd look all smug or just weirdly smiling like he's proud of saying it and I still feel like shit every time and it's not funny to anyone, they just brush it off and put more food on my plate while I just either take my food inside and leave it incomplete or just sit there trying to hold in my tears. this has happened every time since I was young and now I hate eating or putting food on my plate in front of my dad so this leads to me sneaking food when no one's around and since my mom found this out I've been called a thief sooo many times and often times they make jokes ab me stealing money and I almost always go to the bathroom and cry for a good half hour
irdk what to do or say in situations like these and it's quite easy to tell I have a VERY shitty relationship with my dad

okey this is kind of a vent since i have no one:
I live in a family that basically neglected. I have another brother. My parents provided us with money and everything we need, but they dont really paid any attention for us. My brother has no problem with that, but i do. My parents have many expectations for me since im the oldest. They pretty much expect me to behave perfectly to anyone, i have pretty good score at school so they dont complain to me about it. Basically if i do everything perfect, i have my freedom, if im not, they abandon me. I know my parents love me and all but its just feel unfair when they only provide me with stuff but not with their love. Is it selfish if i want a little care from them?

I have only experienced minor forms of some of the abuse forms described in this video, and except for psychological problems i developed on my own have no issues whatsoever. Im watching this video to better grasp how and why my best friend is how she is, because she is rushing from abusive relationship to abusive relationship and has extreme anxiety about staying single. I just want to help her.
But to those that have experienced any of these abuse forms i wish you all the power to overcome the hardships of this past and find a strong foothold in life, be it socially, romantically or just purely in and with yourself!

Does having a nuclear parent count? By nuclear, I mean someone who you will never know what side you'll get out of them.
My mother doesn't really fit all the way into these categories but I've always been terrified when she's in a bad mood because she always takes it out on me or my older sister. We may not have done anything wrong but she always finds something to yell at us for, which has make us very closed off emotionally (we never ask for anything if we need it either. It's almost like I'm walking on eggshells around her.
So- does this count? I just want to know to see if I'm overreacting or not

When I was a kid, verbal abuse, shaming, were the ones that might have caused my OCD possibly. That along with some hard slamming of my head against a concrete wall by two bullies. I do believe in spanking though. I did have some problems but I never committed to violent or minimum crime if I did. Said Monday was bored to a mother that wasn't married. The parents of Ted Bundy wanted to tell him that his mother was his sister. Ted Bundy went on stealing raping and killing women. Look where he wound up. Besides, spare the rod spoil the child is something I believe in.

does ### shaming how i behave, being overly critical of me, picking on my weight, forcing me to believe everybody is coming after him, constantly sh/t talking my mom, yelling when me or my sister misplace something, ranting to me about mind numbing politics 24/7 and expecting me to believe him, dismissing my mental needs cause he suffered worse, calling me weak for being vulnerable, threatening to beat me up for not eating or SH, invading my space and being passive aggressive count as abuse or am i overreacting

as someone who experienced multiple forms of childhood abuse by a guardian for over a decade before i moved out, this hit hard. it's all affected me in irreparable ways, it completely ruined what little childhood i had and i'll never get any of it back. it's also made me feel extremely lonely all the time, no matter what, and it's difficult for me to form and keep all manners of relationships with other people over the years. it really does ruin your life.

Sometimes I am jealous of how wholesome other people's moms are, My mom doesn't exactly abuse me physically. But she does abuse my mental health by always argueing with my father and she often takes knives and threatens my father in an arguement. I am 12 and I get to have
multiple conversations with my father regarding how she even behaves rather rudely to me. Thank God I atleast have a good father and I hope no one else has such mother.

The strange thing is that even if i have been harshly abused in most degrading and inhuman ways i still survived and didnt let the bad experiences turn me evil instead i turned out empathic and emotionally strong. I learn to forgive the wrongdoers and practice deep breathing technicies. Life doesnt need to be perfect and we shouldnt be mad at ourselves for not having perfect parents or childhood.

I was subjected to both physical and emotional abuse by my uncle's ex-wife, yet my mother allowed it and even seemed to get her jollies from it. She would still allow her to be around me, and even told me when I was in my late teenage years, that Oh she never did anything to you, and I don't care what she did or said to you, I still like her anyway I guess this is a form of abuse by proxy.

I have experienced shaming from my mother. In hindsight I think she is not even aware of it, I have the impression it is a common thing to do so in China to educate your kids. But she was also very warm-hearted whereas in comparison here in Europe it seems to be total standard that parents of my generation are cold and neglecting towards their own children due to egoistic reasons.
reply

not in my family, in Indian culture we are told that hitting your child when they have done anything is perfectly fine and said it is for discipline, where I live, if I were to tell the police that my mother slapped me, I would be told that it was for discipline and that I called up for no reason. I would be grateful if you could help me know what to do in this situation.

The worst part is when u grow up and ur parents refuse to acknowledge or even entertain the idea that they messed up ur childhood despite having physically and emotionally abused u and put u in situations like where ur a 12yo crying talking ur mom out of suicide 2 hours before school and them completely denying shit like that even happened.

Im scared because sometimes my dad is funny and nice but he yells and sometimes throws me or pulls my hair or screams in my ear, he also does it with my younger brother. I want to tell my mom but it will be so stressfull, and she wont ever see me the same

I suffered and still do suffer with verbal abuse. It makes me a very reactive, irritable and overall a not very nice person. It makes it really hard for me to talk to people, interact and etc because of my worries of their voice abusing me.

Me: This character in my new novel is coming from an emotionally and abusive family, I have to do research to portray that as best as possible! Wait why do the shaming abuse apply to my aunt with with my little cousin. Oh no.

my mom used to hit me but thank god she stopped, but i can't blame my mom for what she did because it was kinda planted in her mindset because that's what my grandma used to do to her and her siblings(my aunt and uncles.

I experienced ALL of these. I developed depression & CPTSD. To this day, I don't trust people. My innocence was stolen at an early age. I have spent most of my adult life in therapy trying to heal.
