I just feel so stuck and trapped. They have caused me so much stress I never feel I can just say what u want to say and argue in an argument. I just sit there wanting to say something. Im very much so a people pleaser so I hate when my parents get mad at me and I care way to much about what they think of me. Ik im like bc of them. My parents are just so over protective and controlling. My mom tells me I cant hang out with people everyday just bc. Like shes limiting the amount of fun I can have. So like I cant only do things twice a week. I recently became friends with this guy who has made me feel so incredibly happy for the first time in a very long time. And ofc shes not happy for me. She constantly gives me shit for it. I finally have ppl to hang out with which is something i struggled with for so long. Now I have it and shes in the way. My dad kinda stays out of it and lets my mom deals with it but ik his opinions are any better. Yesterday I was hanging out with him and I asked to go over to his house and when she didnt respond for an hour we started to head over on our own. When she found out she starting saying how inappropriate it was for me to go to a guys house. I told her his parents were home and everything and she said it doesnt matter. I just wanna be able to have a normal relationship with him and be able go to his house, play video games with him and just do shit normal friends do together with him. I constantly feel bad bc he wants to do stuff and Im always overthinking how Im gonna ask my parents bc asking them scares the shit outta me. I just dont know what to do. Arguing makes nothing better bc they think they are always right. I just never win.

My mom and dad love me. But i am resentful how they overprotected me and always say i suck at something so don't do it.
I was look down at my ex for being a man child and got cheated on terribly. Yes there is things i should improve. But there were things i were never allowed to make mistake
Now i feel like a bad son for being so resentful.
Recently my mom proudly said how she sacrifice her reunion school trip when i was a conscript in the military during my youth. Because she is afraid i will overslept and get punished. How is that supposed to make me feel? That makes me feel so useless.
My dad is so over caring he wants to come in and clean my room everyday and make drinks for me like i am a kid every morning. I am in my 30s, they still think I am a kid that is not allowed to cook and clean because i am not good at it.
It was never because i dont want to do it. They always snatch it away from me thinking i will never do it well.
I was always told i won't do it well so don't bother. Now i remember the days where i played basketball till 10pm and my mom and dad will go crazy angry scared and my friends will mock me for it.
Or the time when i want to join the military as a career and got shot down by it.
I know it is their way of love but it stunned me. I cant help feeling resentful.
And that is one of the reason why someone once close to me look down on me.

I remember bringing up the term Helicopter Parents to my mother asking her if she knew what it meant. She said Yes, I'm a full-blown helicopter parent! Like if it was a good thing. It can be very suffocating sometimes and talking to them about it is a trip. I love my parents but a lot of things are limited from me especially with the social aspect, I don't have a phone yet and never had. This always makes me feel limited and sometimes I feel left out, I've asked them for one many times but it always leads into an argument, they always use my mental health against me getting a phone and that I'm too young even though I'm in high school. They think that being helicopter parents is a good thing but it can be very exhausting to deal with. Sometimes the house gets so toxic to the point where I just want to run away from home and I find it astonishing how they think that their parenting is absolutely right and okay, they always think they're right no matter how wrong they are. I'm pretty sure we can all agree that if you have strict parents it is very VERY hard to talk them about certain things.

Im 27 years old and my mom will say to my face i dont care if Im an over protective parent. How the absolute hell do i get out of this? Now you would think a 27 year old can make decisions for themselves. Not me and i have to ask permission for everything. If they say no, its a no. I became friends with someone and we dated for a year. It didnt work out because they noticed my over protective parents. While we are still friends she has made a plan to get me out of my box Were going to take a little vacation. Without my parents permission. Which i know they will flip shit when they find out Ive snuck out of state because in their mind the whole world is dangerous and Ive realized throughout the years that they have let fear run their lives and mine. But its not like Ive been out here in the streets and making bad decisions all my life. I AM FINE. Since my parents wont listen when i try to tell them you can enjoy life while being safe and aware of your surroundings, Im gonna have to show them.

I feel like my parents are helicopter parents. My dad wont let me have discord or any online app where i can talk to other people beside roblox. I do actually have anxiety and it gets worse every day. My dad always wants me to be safe and i get that but sometimes i feel down bc i feel trapped by my parents grasp. I always say im stronger then they think i am, and i can understand the bad things. I understand they r trying to keep be safe but i really suffer because i cant stop drowning in their protection. (PS: please try to talk to ur parents if you have issues with it, if you DO have helicopter parents, they will prob understand and let you be free because its still a tad bit comforting that they do this because they love you and they dont want to lose you)

Ironically I only broke free of my helicopter parents because I disappointed them so thoroughly they kicked me out. Didnt fully stop the helicoptering, and the whiplash of something like that is very hard to recover from so Ive mostly been adrift ever since. Ironically, they even stripped me of the agency to choose when i move out and make all the decisions associated with that. So I just dumped everything into boxes and left. Im 27 and they did this when I was 20, and every time I move house I still lug around a couple of boxes of shit Ive just never felt I had the time to sort through. Most of its shit I dont feel like im allowed to throw out too. Its shit with sentimental value to my mom which im still supposedly responsible for anyway, happy new year I guess?

I have such a big brain plan to stop my helicopter parents be helicopter parents,
Holidays started here in Australia and my friend is inviting us to go shopping on his birthday with the only rule that no adults come. When I asked my parents they said they have to come, so therefore I can t come. So on the day I will become slouchy and burned-out like on purpose giving them some guilt. Then at the start of the school year my teacher who I had the past will ask what we, my other friends will talk about going to the glen. My teacher who knew we were all really close friends will wonder why I am not in the picture and when she asked why, Ill tell her about my helicopter parents. Leading to a PTM with it hopefully a happy ending

I am 16 years old and can relate to all of these points. I have been struggling whit extreme low self esteem, mild anxiety and depression, extreme stress whit making decisions and being scared of doing something wrong. I stopped all my hobbies, distanced myself from everyone and live with constant stress and a desperate feeling of wanting to know who I am. I have difficulties whit everything. I really love my parents and understand that they want the best for me. BUT I am slowly healing! I am going through this alone and I can do this. So can you! You don't have to do it alone but you'll make it! Wish all of you the best

I Just feel a need to tell it:
I am a high schooler who wants to earn some money and combine part time job with study. But my mom is against and I have got severely criticized for my decision (thanks to shadow work sessions, i didn't take that personally. But If I know that money is worth it, I can do make them. I just want to become more independent, It's upsetting to feel misunderstood. Looks like I am done. Thanks universe, I have a friend who supports me and can give an advice without a criticism. And you, an online stranger, are a great listener. I feel much better now, have an awesome day.

My mom is so much overreacting about anything.
When I catch a little cold or something she would freak out and give me a lot of medication, forces me to drink tea I dont like and stuff.
It gets to a point were i avoid to tell her anything about my health and keep things to myself.
Rn Ive got a slight cold and shes making me this disgusting tea and screams at me for catching a cold. Every time I talk back and tell her shes doing to much she will start to cry and make me feel bad, telling me things like Why dont you listen to me This is just for your best
Im just so done with this

100% accurate. My parents excuse was you just want to do it because your friends are doing it (like getting drivers license or going to prom)
As a child and now as an adult Im constantly living in a fantasy world. Im constantly day dreaming about my life in certain situations where I was the popular or rich person etc. I was the one everyone wanted to be. Id read a book or watch a movie and put myself in there and play out the scene. Im afraid to travel to far from home because I fear I wont be able to get back even though I have a phone and GPS. Adulthood sucks for me.

Im only 13 and I already rely on my parents to make all my decisions, my mom always expects me to blindly follow her orders without providing a reason, and I cant even get a break without them asking DiD Y0u d0 y0uR h0MwoRk? Every day of every week, they never give me privacy in any situation, they would even show up and talk in the middle of hel- I mean online classes, but the worst of all, the one cardinal sin that annoys me the most, when they come into your room to check on you without knocking, and leaving without CLOSING THE DAMN DOOR, HOW HARD IT?

On our Tumblr, a follower asked about the effects of helicopter parenting. We recognize how important this topic could be because of the harm that a helicopter parent can cause, we decided to release this video a day early. Hope you find this video helpful and share it so that more awareness can be brought to the attention of bad or toxic types of parenting. But of course, there may or may not be right or wrong way of parenting, but we can agreed that some are more harmful than good on some level.

Not currently under a helicopter parent. I'm 33 and going through a very trying time. My sobriety has allowed me to adequately reflect on my last 30 years. I felt like you were reading out of my journal in this video. I had no idea the depths of influence my over protective parents had on me and my identity throughout my whole life. I'm changing for the better now that I realize how I became the person I am. Learning to accept is a long way away.

I don't even have a single friend or know how to communicate because of my father not even letting me go out because he thinks that I am a stray, even though I've always respected his rules and everything. the thing I want the most is to grow older, get a job and leave, I'm not saying that I don't love him but I need to live my life and not just see it pass like if it was nothing.

I feel a strong need to be alone and independent, because my mother was overprotective most of my life, but at the same time I am unable to make difficult decisions and feel the urge to ask my mom about it. She only now started to throw me into an adult life and gets irritated when I express my anxiety as if it was my fault I'm not used to taking care of real life issues.

I'm a lost 33 yrs old boy with a helicopter mother. Yes boy cuz I consider myself as such due to stunted development. I have shattered self esteem due to verbal abuse and is slowly pulling back my life together. You can't blame them forever and be a victim of trauma just as your parents are. You have to pick yourself up and become your own parent. Stop the cycle.

In India, parents are just like that. My parents still behave that way with me. I am 33 years old. They will never change. If you question them, it will become a parenting existential crisis for them. The reason for this is they only know parenting and nothing else. And being helicopter parents is what they do best. It is a sad story indeed.

One of my friends has a helicopter mother because every time we go to school she with her electric bike around the school to check if she's okay she doesn't make her learn about turning on the hot water or using a knife on rare occasions she is allowed to use the knife but it's really rare

They pretend to listen so there's no point. I told them they're helicopter parents, they just say No we're not! and keep proving me correct over and over. I'm their most prized possession and I'm suicidal and lonely and I live in the USA so it's all bad.

Both of my parents are helicopters. I'm 26 now, hyperchondriach, anxious-depressive diagnozed with GAD, OCD and paranoid thoughts + emotional fainting. Tried to tell my parents, but they either get extremely hurt or deny it, telling me I'm hyperboling.
