Ghosting: The Missed Warning in the Back of the Dating Manual
video description
I had to leave the store because of the said issue before of people spreading rumors. He was my manager, and while we spoke outside of work and played games online together, we never had a relationship more than just friends. The rumor of us dating not only threatened my job, but his. I put in my two weeks, told the store manager what had happened with the rumors and that it was untrue, and left. He apologized for ruining things for me, which he didn't. After that. nothing. My friend disappeared and never responded to my texts pleading for at least closure, telling me we weren't friends anymore, nothing. I never got a goodbye.
I respected him and never confronted him at his workplace, because like the video said, I knew it would heavily stress him out and I didn't want to do that to him. I got therapy, slowly accepted that the ghosting was my closure, and very slowly began to move on. Its 2 and a half years later, and I still think of him constantly. I've come face to face with him twice, and nothing ever happened. We ignored one another. I honestly don't even know if he recognized or remembered me.
Yesterday, I was told that he died of a brain aneurysm. I just felt my heart break again. I wanted him to be happy with his life and people around him, and I wanted him to stop his bad lifestyle habit of drinking himself into a stupor. I keep asking myself what would have happened if I just spoke to him? What if he was scared I hated him and that's why he never reached out again? What if I could have prevented him from dying somehow? Maybe the excessive drinking caused his blood vessels to thin and that caused the aneurysm? What if I got him to stop drinking sooner? Would he still be alive?
There's just so many what-ifs I have, and its tearing me apart. Even though its been so long since he and I last spoke, and things ended horribly, I never wanted anything but the best for him. but now he's dead. I will never know what he thought, or what he was thinking, and while it might seem like true closure, I just felt all those wounds open up again.
Rest in peace, Ezra. I never hated you, or held what you did against you at all. I understood. But because of you, I grew and matured, and realized a lot of things about myself. I hope he knows he changed my life, even if it was with a painful action. I hope he knew he was still my friend up until the end. I miss you, and will always miss you.

I got ghosted once in middle school by a boy who confessed to me over Snapchat. Seriously.
After he stopped talking to me (he claimed he didnt have a phone but Im sure that was a lie) after I gave him a homemade cake on his birthday, i had to wait out the excruciating pain of being left behind as if he had never even cared. That he lied about his feelings, which now, seems not far from the truth. He told me he was a pathological liar who also craved social stimulation. He could not walk home alone from school, and thats the only time we ever speaked to each other. After school. Never during. It was like we pretended our relationship didnt exist when his lunch table was so close to mine.
When summer came, I found out from a close friend that he was an actual registered psychopath who could not feel love or guilt for his actions. Its likely he doesnt miss me.
Also, recently I found out from one of his former friends that he had actually gotten obsessed over a girl and always complained about when his friends took up his time without her. I dont know exactly who since he didnt name names, but its likely that its some other girl and not me. A month after he ghosted me, I saw him waiting beside and talking to a different girl on the way to school.
Its been humiliating, being ghosted. Ive been trying so hard not to think about him or miss him, and so far Im finally getting rid of his handprint on my heart. I can only hope that it can finally be gone. Ive been trying to convince myself that hes a horrible person, and he probably is.
The last words for now that Ive spoken to him were during when I was being ghosted, he was around his friends, I was passing him by, actually having a good day. and I decided to say Nice hat, since I liked his Pikachu hat. Unsmiling, he just gave me an (ok) sign. My traitorous heart felt a twinge of pain, but I just walked off cooly. Im convinced myself that I had won that situation, and that he and I were just. done for.
Sorry for the tangent.

I was ghosted by my fiance of 3 years. We had a house and a life together. I caught him in a lie n he finally admitted to it (I caught him red handed so to speak, what choice did he have. We discussed it n moved forward, or so I thought. He was easy to read after being with him almost 24/7 for that long. He would blame others and shame them for doing something (not to their face mind you, which in reality, he was the one doing that something he accused others of. It was kinda weird how transparent he became. It didn't help that his patents literally hated me. They lived far away n one day he tells me they were on a flight to our city n he was getting them at the airport. That night he told me if he didn't leave with them, they'd never speak to him again. That night they started packing a few of his important belongings in their van and next morning they all left. He called 2x in the 2 days after and went on with the same story. After that, I never heard from him again. I did not lie or cheat or do anything to warrant such a ghosting. I later found he was cheating (as I had suspected based on his accusations towards others. He left everything. all electronics, 1, 000's of dollars worth of tools, just took his important papers, his shirts, and his hats. That was over 3 years ago n never did find out what happened. On fb I saw he moved to another state n tried to friend him/message him just to ask n he blocked me. I think it best I never did find out. I would've never expected it from a guy like he presented himself to be, but that's what happened n I had to accept that I'd never understand exactly what happened. That was over 3 years ago. It's caused some trust issues for me. I haven't been in a relationship since. That's my experience. - XA

While I would argue that ghosting an intimate partner is a terrible thing to do under most circumstances, ghosting as an act isn't inherently bad in regards to friends. Friendship is a fickle and finite bond. I've been ghosted more times than I can count by people I once considered friends, and I've ghosted in return. But to me, that simply highlights one thing: that the friendship has worn down, was likely superficial from the start, and we can go our separate ways and enjoy what we had, or just move on and forget the other existed. Social media is fantastic in that it allows us to keep in contact with almost anyone we've ever known; but it has also granted us with a curse: a million friends, with zero deep connections. Ghosting is simply a means to send and receive a silent message that says: look, I feel we don't gel anymore, and I don't see us getting closer in the future.
As both a recipient and a committer of such an act, I can guarantee that ghosting isn't always done with immature, cowardly or malicious intent, and isn't always received with pain. Figure out who is ghosting you, and who you no longer enjoy talking to, and use those to narrow down your contacts to a more meaningful group. Sometimes saying nothing at all, and giving the other person their own time to let that sink in, delivers a stronger (and sometimes kinder) message, than giving an entire explanation that can come across as excuses and may lead to unnecessary conflict or needless upset.
I'm not arguing that ghosting is a good thing by nature, but it's really all about how its used given the context of a situation.

I was ghosted by my best friend of several years. It's been 3 years since, but I still think about our relationship almost every day. It still hurts like I'm getting punched in the chest every time I think of it. I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression since before I got ghosted, and I definitely think that those conditions have increased the difficulty of my recovery from being ghosted. Every time I mess up or make a minor social or behavioral error, my anxiety makes me wonder if that's the reason they ghosted me, if I was being toxic, or if one of my negative personality traits contributed towards it. Sometimes it triggers a depressive spiral that can last for extended time periods. Other times I'm just filled with rage towards them for being so hateful, or rage at myself for trusting them in the first place. Often, it's just a cycle of these feelings that can be triggered by next to nothing. Sometimes it spirals so badly and suddenly that I'll be having a wonderful day and then something mundane reminds me of them and I end up crying on the floor for hours in a full blown panic attack or a depressive episode. I'm putting this here mostly to give myself some catharsis, but also to let anyone considering ghosting know the real affects. If they had just told me they didn't want to be friends or talk to me any more, I would have respected their wishes and gotten over it, even if I didn't and still don't understand why they wanted that. Please don't ghost people, nobody deserves this.

Ghosting is one of the most brutal forms of psychological attacks you can make on another person. When you ghost, you attack someones basic right to even exist in a community or society. People who ghost are acting like a pouting selfish child that shows very little empathy or compassion for others. Communication is a basic necessity for our society to function. In the way we need plumbing to take away shit, we need communication to FAIRLY resolve problems.
You can also ghost someone collectively. Coordinate your ghosting of a person with others. I feel this moves into the real of criminal activity. At that point there is no doubt that you are a participant in a conspiracy that intends to do psychological harm to another person. That your stalking the person intending to harm them. If you are a participant in collective ghosting, there is no doubt about intent to do harm, at that point you should go before a judge.
Just be a decent human being and an adult and if someone has the courage to reach out to communicate with you, have the courage to communicate back with them.

I was ghosted.
He and I were dating and everything seemed to be going perfect.
One week we decided to stay at his, he was acting really detached and distant. he would go out for hours and leave me home. one night I woke up and I started thinking it was something that I was doing wrong, so I pulled my socks up and asked him if I had done anything to up set him, he said no, why.
The next day we were driving back to mine and I couldn't help but feel like it was the last time I would see him. we talked for two days after and on the third day he said he would call me after 5pm. at 8 I decided to call him aaaand. The number you are calling is switched off or not in a service area
I called and messaged everyday for a 2 weeks all the while ignoring my friends who were telling me he was a penis of a person and I should move on I kept chalking it up to His phones just broken
I still struggle to this day. I fight myself to not go to his house like a crazy person. I really did love him.

My boyfriend (or ex bf I guess) is ghosting me and its absolutely killing me. He blocked me everywhere. I feel like I cant even focus on anything else because I worry so much. I just feel like he must really despise me since he avoids me like Im the devil himself. I heard from someone that he is actually spending a few days in another city because he worries I would show up to his place to confront him. This made me feel even worse. Like he is doing whatever he can to avoid me. a mutual friend is trying to confront him about it, but we think he figured it out, so now he he is sort of ghosting our friend as well and keeps postponing their meetings. I miss him so much and just want to have a proper talk. or at least just break up with me properly.
I actually didnt even know we were broken up until a week after. I thought he was just taking a break, because he ha a tendency to do it like this. But someone told me yesterday that they heard him say he had broken up with me. Im so devastated.

I once had a friend who I felt was really close to me and we worked together, hung out together, worked on projects together. Then she moved away and I kept in touch with her, but one day she stopped replying to me. No e-mails, nothing on social media, no return phone calls. I don't know why. Part of me wonders if I said or did something that she found hurtful and never told me. I have no idea what though could have been, but misunderstandings happen and I would rather hash it out so we could reconcile. Another part of me is worried, is she being influenced, manipulated, is she okay? I just don't know. I've tried reaching out to her a while back, but did not get anything in return. It's a shame, we were good friends.

Ghosting is a form of intentional malicious disregard of another person. Lack of empathy. A lack of empathy is part of the classification of a psychopath, thus what I've discovered through dating is that people that do ghosting are psychopaths. I've been trying to figure out why so many women are quantifiable psychopaths and why so many exist in today's dating environment of modern society. Yet to understand ghosting I've found it important to understand why woman are psychopathic. To understand that we have to understand the mind of psychopaths to understand these woman. I think this is also a result of so many sociopaths because of this psychopathic mentality of women. Thus the negative cycle in modern society.

I don't know if I can say that I've gosted someone: a year ago I broke up with a guy. I still cared about him, because whem my love sentiment was gone my affection and friendship did not. So I asked him if he wanted to be friends, or if he prefered to cut me off from his life. He said that he wanted me as a friend. We kept messaging for a while and I suddenly noticed that he only responded to my texts and never called me, so I thought that I could simply not write to him, because he probably didn't care. And he didn't contact me. I feel hurt, and guilty, and in the same time I don't know what to do. Does he care about me? Why he didn't call me in a few months? I feel stuck.

ghosted: i feel like our relationship is strangled and automatically think it's something I did. i jump to the conclusion that they hate me or are uncomfortable with me. sometimes i decide to ghost back or cut them out because the communication is choked and i'm uncomfortable with that.
ghosting: i feel like i can't talk with this person, or communicating with them can be stressful or inconvenient. they may have brought up something they don't want to talk about and they never tell me what it is. they may also be too busy to casually talk to, so i'm uncomfortable trying to talk to them. they may be overwhelming and/or sensitive.

I've been ghosted. I waited 6 months for her to come back and at least tell me why. I know for sure that if she had written one paragraph to tell me why she broke up with me I would have gotten closure and would have been a lot better off. My mind loves to explore the seemingly endless tangents of why she left when I didn't do anything wrong.
Being ghosted feels like telling your high school crush that you like them and then getting rejected in front of the class and having all of them laugh at you, but the difference is that the feeling I just talked about doesn't really go away.

I got ghosted by my Prom date after I sent her a text later after Prom explaining how she made me feel and how I felt about her.
She refused to speak to me at school and wouldnt even look at me when she passed by. It was one of the worst blows Id ever felt because Id never been into a person like that and getting ghosted and eventually realizing she never had any feelings when I thought she did felt absolutely horrid.
After this I got ghosted again by another chick, and in the end my only advice is to do your best to not do this to people. It doesnt feel good at all.

Sometimes I isolate when Im going through a hard time, so I guess thats kinda like ghosting.
But yeah. there was a guy who used to always make time to talk with me until certain differences came out about the two of us; then he just stopped all of that. He still liked me, but he just was never there anymore, never tried to be there anymore. He has a full schedule, but he had a full schedule when he was pursuing a relationship with me, too. I was the one who kept things going until, among other reasons, I got tired of this. It was a bummer.

I've been ghosted and it destroyed me. I'm healing, but the consequences of the ghosting have been brutal to me. I hate all gay men now (I'm a gay man myself) and the ghosting part was the last straw for me. This video helps me show a little compassion for the ghosters, but my hatred for the guy who ghosted me is ever growing. I know, my reaction doesn't make sense and I'm seeing a therapist twice a month. Bottomline, I'm never dating or opening up to anyone again, as I don't think I deserve to be treated poorly.

I am the one doing it but it's for a different reason. It's because he refuses to confront the issue and acts like everything is fine. And when I do bring it up, he goes just let it be as it is because I am busy in life for various reasons. I tried to be patient and giving. but it really drains a lot from me. So I told him to let me be for a while. I don't know who is at fault. All I can think right now is how it is affecting my studies and I don't want that since I had always been a straight A student.

Been too busy to connect with friends. they may think that I am ghosting. Also ghosting a date. He believes that I really like him and I will take him anytime he asks for. I dont dislike him. But I dont feel that we have connection or any future of a serious relationship. So I told him. And he dismissed that and believes the current situation is good for both. So I started ghosting. He continues trying to contact me on a regular basis. I just ignore his messages

I've been ghosted twice by people who meant everything to me. I was never in a relationship with either of them, but we were close, like family. Ironically, one of them ghosted me TWICE, and I still blame myself for allowing him back into my life after the first time. They were both such damaging and toxic characters, which is something I'm only now realizing. but I still loved them, and the pain I feel today is almost intolerable, and that's on a good day.

I've ghosted more than I'm proud of. Hardly ever permanentlyI just tend to drop off the grid for days to weeks without explanation. It's usually due to bouts of anxiety and after I realize I'm doing it again I get even more anxious since I start to fear the reactions of those I left after I return. The guilt is nauseating. Not looking for pity, just wondering if anyone does anything similar or if anyone has tips to prevent this type of scenario.

the thing is idk if she is ghosting me and if i confront her about it. she might not even be ghosting in the first place because of her extroverted personality i guess and i might just hurt her feeling and cause our friendship to stumble!
i feel hurt tho when she ignores my messages or just not talk to me because shes talking to someone else
and we've been friends for 10 years.
what do i do; -;

to be honest I've done it before and manly bc I'd rather be with family other than friends ik it's a coward thing to do but I'd rather them to forget that I exist than talking it over. I hate to say it but I would rather have my girl friend to come over and use my time and eat all my food rather rather than my friends doing the same thing, deploying batteries and giving headaches

My ex ignored me for a week and he has medical issues and I thought he was dead, he never answered me, and after April vacation worrying he was dead, we go to school and he breaks up with me and says he wont leave me for my best friend, but literally 3 days later they were dating, she lied to me, but my ex will always have my respect because of what we did during our relationship.

someone had been ghosted lol.
doing the ghosting is not actually a bad thing after a breakup it just means you need to focus on yourself and move on and the other person is slowing you down with emotions and hurts you even more so yeah, ghosting is alright and if you even explained why and they keep doing so then youll understand why its not a bad thing.

What a guilt-tripping pile of crap. There are people who don't take no for an answer. As if anyone has any responsibility for everyone that takes some form of interest in them. Yeah, telling someone one day, that they are the love of your life and the next day just making a clean cut is cruel, but also very very unlikely, if you meant it in the first place.
