A highly sensitive person or HSP is someone who feels more deeply about things. A highly sensitive person is first researched by Dr. Elaine N. Aron in 1991. Do you tend to cry more easily, prefer alone time to recharge, and display higher empathy than others? You might be an HSP. Do you struggle to be happy? There are a plethora of tools and skills that can relieve the overstimulation HSPs experience every day. Here are just a few of those ideas!

I used to have this friend, a decade younger then me. Im a HSP, i dont know what he is. But definitely a very charismatic funny to be around dude, but highly insecure about the slightest emotions or opinion i had that did not validate him.
N i didnt fully realize these matter not until that codependent connection with him was finally getting severed. Before such i ised to think it was safe to open up to him, n he would encourage transparency. But he would always react strongly creating augments and wars on my behalf (i was always distresses n anxious all the more believing i was a victim n rejected, and in utter pain)
His aggressive approach to problems was OVERWHELMING. It was painful
bc if I were to lead a matter would so utterly consider everyone n on all sides and aim to discuss a matter to express the problem but not attack the ppl.
He wasnt like thathe created wars. But bc i was closer friends with him, i didnt know how to make it all stop. Bc he was trying to do it on my behalf but his approach made me feel sick and anxious all the time.
He wasnt that safe space he made himself to be when he made ppl he hated feel pain, stress or he was offended at ppl. It hurt bc i felt the pain from everyone else too.
Watching this makes me understand why certain seasons felt increasingly difficult than others.

I am sleep deprived 3 nights. Been very vexing recently. I am definitely an HSP. Unfortunately I am diagnosed with CPDST, its a complexed thing to. My sensitivity in an abusive dysfunctional family was referred to as too sensitive over sensitive and my main abuser, father, abused me over that. Being number 4 in a proper RC family mum was desperate for a girl. I was, a long time ago, a pretty child, blonde hair blue eyed, very loving etc as my less sensitive big sis told me. So even my gender was a disappointment and he emotionally abused me over that.
I am likely ADD, an Adult Child. I had a near 30 year career as a registered mental health nurse. My empathy helped my practice but cost me, and it was pre-supervision. I coped, and I wasnt aware who I was. The outdoors has always been where I prefer to be.
Currently Im in therapy dealing with my CPDST. Yesterday was tough.

Grow something. Flowers, food, a tree. Outside time helps and I can shed the emotions of the day or even the week. I am 65 and do not let me cry around anyone as I have learned I can not trust them. Being called a crybaby was just too hurtful. Always told I am too sensitive and need to get a tough skin. I feel fine with who I am and feel sorry that no one ever got to know me. My dog and plants have a great life and I am happier just doing me. Here, I learned not what is wrong with me because it is not wrong instead I learned how special I am and how, I can change the way I think and that changes my reaction and choices. Nothing wrong for calling time out while I look at a situation a bit and then change my thoughts to decide how I will get through it. I hope all of you find your way before you are as old as me.

Great videos and very helpful so far, as im an HSP i believe, and i think another good part of this, or an action too add would be the feeling that can come to me any day of the week, regarding feeling right about doing something or going somewhere for the day, as one day it might feel 100%, great and confident and all, as the ducks are in line, but then the next day you might feel the opposite where you dont feel good about going somewhere or doing something at all, as thats an issue i have a lot as it should be more balanced i think overall in life, take the good with the bad, but that seems to be hard, any thoughts on if thia makes sense? thanks!

Thanks for the video, Im in my 30s and Im just now seeing this. Ive struggle with feeling bad and people making fun of me and me understanding them and trying to see why it is that Im so weird. It sucks because I love people and I love connecting and having meaningful relationships, but right now Im alone, and I think its because I cant control my feelings. Some times I love being like this, but the older I get the more people take advantage of it and when I try to defend myself its too much and I end up losing friends and relationships. I forgive and forget everyone, but I always forget that other people arent like me.

If I call myself a HSP, somethings I can relate are such as not being able to just shrug things off (it might be any of my mistakes or maybe something someone said to me. I seem to listen to my friends and family more attentively than how they listen to me. I need love and actual one, I can't keep up a fake attitude neither can I accept any one else like that. And personal space is really important. I have objections if somebody (close or not close) tries to step my privacy boundaries which are set strong. I'm a listener and and an understanding person who seeks emotions well. I keep feelings first and materials after.

I explained to a psychiatrist that I had a hard time eating in restaurants and being at parties, and I just said I can FEEL lights and sounds and get overwhelmed easily just being out in the world sometimes. even someone speaking loudly upsets me because it feels like theyre yelling. She taught me about being an HSP and got me books to read. I told her once Id rather be fragile like a flower instead of fragile like a bomb and she told me actually like an orchid, hard to keep alive, because the smallest change in water, temp, light, whatever and I start to wilt. Haha. Shes not wrong.

I recently found out I am an HSP. I'm also a poster-child of an INTP female. I've never seen anything that discusses the clash between feeling deeply and high empathy with the really weak Fe of an INTP. I'm not supposed to do the emotional stuff, the being keenly aware of others & their feelings, but I do, and it is a horribly itchy spot for an INTP who also has all of the social awkwardness and really would rather problem solve everything.

I had no idea that my trouble with making decisions was something that is also connected to me being an HSP! Thank you, this video was actually really helpful and a lot of these advice do make a lot of sense to me personally, looking at how I experience everything. I only hope some day I will be able to really do all of these, because a couple are still out of my control, especially the safe space of your own thing.

As an HSP, I've really grown to enjoy having longer hair and a longer beard. I can be a bit obsessive about my hair health, but it certainly pays off when the soft sensation of just running my fingers through it can calm me down so much. While to others it just looks like I'm readjusting my hair or ponderously stroking my beard, in reality I am grounding myself and becoming that much less overwhelmed.

I'm not diagnosed as a HSP, but pretty sure I am.
A change of place can easily distress me and often it depends on small things like temperature, noise, space. I get this problem when I'm at my sisters house, because she lives a very loud and chaotic life. I found myself to feel better when I tell her, so I'd recommend to express your feelings in situations like these too! It can make magic.

Great list. I'd like to add to it. A) Quiet spaces to be. B) Spending time outdoors in nature with fresh air and sunshine
C) Having a support person to rely on for comfort D) A pet cos pets calm us and help us get that total unconditional love and we give our pets lots of unconditional love too. E) hobbies and interests that help distract us from life's stresses.

2: 45 I wish I had a relationship with someone that I could open up to, specifically because being a HSP(or pretty sure I'm a HSP) I feel a lot of my qualities are often displayed as qualities of women rather than my gender(male. Having someone like this would help me express my true self, instead of hiding it because the world doesn't approve of my personality.

The more I learn about HSP the more I like myself. HSP people are lovely!
Thank you for all your videos on HSP. They help a lot.
We get triggered with any violent situation. It's 100% draining. So HSP should avoid any violent situation, violent movies, violent relationships or get involved with unhealthy arguments. It makes me very unhappy. For days.

Often feel that outlet can be being wild and what other people would call crazy and sing out your emotions, dance them out, and talk to someone who passes no judgement, and listens a good strategy. Also reading books that are about life rather than those that boarder talking about relationships all the time a good break from what's happening around me.

I do love to be random as an HSP, it's really hard to decide anything sometimes but I've learned that being random and doing the things that randomly comes in my head, makes me feel a lot better. At least for creative or activity stuff. Don't make yourself have a hard time deciding something, just be random like our feelings sometimes seem to be

Acknowledgement of every person I come into contact with is an extremely powerful outlet for me. Rather it be a smile for the person next to me at the red light or a hi Miss to the elder lady In front of me in line at a store. These powerful interactions help me from becoming overwhelmed. They've even balanced me during overwhelmed episodes.
reply

I am an older lady and have been this way for as long as I can remember. I was always told I was shy or overly sensitive. The older I get the more I try to stand up for myself. But when I do people don't expect that from me and they say I am over reacting. Get over it. And I do tend to hold grudges when I feel disrespected or invalidated.

If your somehow a child who has HSP, if you have noticed your child having HSP, help them control themselves by talk with a calm voice and a sensitive mind towards them. So that when they do a mistake, talking calmly can help them fell like it was just a normal thing that everybody get throught from the back of the mind to the full heart.
reply

I only have one friend group who actually understands my needs as a (probably) HSP. One of my other friends doesn't understand, and my mom doesn't either so my brain convinces me constantly that I shouldn't be feeling the way I do and that normal people don't feel certain ways about things
reply

I'm defs HSP. And to me when it came to decision making in the past, making a list of pro's and cons was the way. Now I just listen to my intuition. The first thought or feeling. And stick with it. And it's over 90% right. One of the benefits of being HSP. Great vid!

I totally agree with the importance of doing simple tasks in between activities even if it has to be intentional because when something really concerns me I could think about it for long period of time and I end up ruining my own schedule as well as my mood
reply

Having a cup of tea or chamomile make me feel better and help me to calm down and watching the waves of the sea help me to process my emotions and thoughts also guided meditation helps me to stop the critical voices on my head
reply

Playing music, writing stories and sport like swimming is very good
also active meditation as sometimes coming down is easier with physical activity than by just laying down. But i know, everyone is different

reply

I think I might be a highly sensitive person but I don't have some signs so I dunno but what helps me is listening to fnaf songs and playing games like minecraft or terraria and reading into fnaf Canon
