Term Mental Illness is too LOOSE; too VAGUE; too INDEFINITE; too INDISTINCT; NOT CLEARLY DEFINED; and WORST OF ALL. ALLOWS ONE TO DISCOUNT OTHER'S BAD EXPERIENCE AS NOTHING. TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT, ALLOWING listener TO NOT DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. This is why USA is in a mess today, because the criminals can get away with crimes and label you as mentally ill; or label your TRUE experience and or AWARENESS of SITUATION as a THEORY. All of this resulting to destroy truly mentally stable person. because their devastating experienced is discounted or NOT believed ALLOWING CRIMINALS TO CONTINUE. Too many buy into a lie, over accepting a strange story. to then call you mentally ill. Believe it or not, society allows extremely unbelievable horrible crimes because one is labeled mentally ill and or telling a theory and or to off the wall to be true; plus, since society doesn't come down on liars, society doesn't believe individual. Besides, society likes avoiding societies responsibility. by pushing issue back upon VICTIMIZED MAN, while a LITTLE more open to hear a woman. This allows society an excuse to NOT investigate. ; to not do anything. ; the criminals like that. The criminals are in everything, in EVERYTHING without exception. I'm NOT SAYING ALL ARE CRIMINALS; most of society desire what is right, while poor at thinking, accurately evaluate and judgment. Now society is paying for their indifference on it all.

This is really long and may be triggering for some people, but:
Both of my brothers have autism, while I have GAD, possibly High Functioning Anxiety, and we saw a bee on a road trip. I started freaking out, my mind racing with worries and I jumped back and covered myself with my hoodie.
Stop overreacting, youre not special needs!
Thats what my dad said to me. He thought just because Im not autistic, Im not important, and nor are my feelings. I try to seek help, but I worry that my dad will shrug it off and call me emo or moody, which my older brother calls me.
I sometimes think of myself as a blot of dirt on the bathroom wall. That everyone wants to disappear, that nobody would care about if somebody wiped it off. Sometimes I wish I was that blot of dirt, and I could just. disappear. Die. I never talk to my family about my thoughts, they have no idea. When I feel worthless and hopeless, I talk to myself. And sometimes, my great grandpa in heaven. I think Im weird and I ask my brother if I am, and he says no, youre not, stop trying to be quirky.
In my sleep, I have nightmares about people laughing at me, calling me a crybaby. Probably because two people spread rumours about me and my younger brother constantly reminds me.

I couldn't agree more with this video. But what about the people who use their mental illness as a sort of manipulation and abuse? What us as family members, friends or co-workers can do with that type up people? I have friends that are close and dear to my heart that have mental illnesses and they struggle with them all the time. And I've never seen them abuse or manipulate anyone. But I had friends in the past and coworkers that were abusive and manipulative and then they use their mental illness as an excuse. Like for example I am borderline I can't help it or I am depressed, sorry for lashing out. or I have bipolar disorder that's why I'm always lying. When it first started you can on a certain level accept it or justify it. But when it becomes abusive or a bad habit, what should we do? I had to cut ties with some friends because it was too much. I had to quit a job just because my former boss was so emotionally abusive to the point that I even throw up before going into work. I think that some people have a evil nature to them and it shows even whether they have a mental illness or not. But how can we respond to that without being inappropriate, disrespectful and conscious about that?

Mental illness is not about the outside world, it isn't about the situation, it isn't about what you think. People who are sad because something went wrong are sad for a reason. So are those who are anxious because something scary is coming. (I am keeping this to things I have, depression and anxiety. Those phrases might work on them though they are hurtful in any case. Mental illness is suffering severe depression for no reason (external) at all. It is living on the edge of panic without something to fear. It is private and personal and pervasive. Depression can be crippling anxiety can break you. If someone had a failing liver they are in danger of dying. Telling them any of these things would be cruel and heartless. Ridiculous really. Your liver is better than some peoples liver, just be thankful. See? Mental illness needs help from those that can and understanding from everyone else. The problem is that no one can look at you, even very closely, and see that you are suffering from mental illness. These little videos are as important for the people who arent mentally ill as they are for those who are.

Two more bad statements; and a solution. Being told to: Forget It. or Get over it. You don't get over your children being kid napped, and society not caring about criminals. One never forgets or gets over a bad experience. HOWEVER: One must move on. Until I heard >must move on. < from friend, not from so called professionals. I was stuck, just maintaining.
Your brain not like computer with a DELETE key. Once whatever is experienced, memory remains; while can decide not to think about the issue, as a result to be told I must move on, move on with life. I suggest AVOID counseling, they have all the an$wer$ to keep you coming back; if you can get where you can move on, by totally being honest with self as to your OWN situation and your contribution to issue; and that caused by others you had no control of will be fine. Don't take blame for anything YOU didn't actually put into motion. Most counsels think no one is honest with self, to blame you for everything. By blaming you for everything keeps you off balance and returning. However, DON'T LIE TO SELF about who's fault whatever is.

Ah yes, I loved it when my dad said something about his brother having depression and what I had was not like what he saw, that I was too young to even know about that, that there's so many people suffering more and having it way worse that I do and that I have a perfect life, therefore there is no chance I have depression. I hate that when I cried my mom told me to stop crying over everything, that she commented on my body type and me being loud. What I hate the most is that I've learned to believe all that they said. I'm too young to get help. The only thing I'm kind of diagnosted with is angry issues. Glad to know I was not faking that one, was scared of a second there. I don't talk loud, I don't even weep. My self image is kind of ruined, and I'm too scared to ask for help because every single time it feels like I'm faking everything I feel, that I'm just seeking attention.

I can sort of relate to the everyone is different thing, my friend ( who is also technically my therapist ) has told me to get over being sad about some things that have happened to me because people like him have had it worse, even though his experiences were a bit different than mine, his mother died, and I just completely hate myself and who I am, but sometimes he says Just remember, I've had it, and other people have had it a LOT worse than you which makes me hate myself even more, because it makes me think I'm being an idiot, an attention seeker and I should stop reaching out for help sometimes because other people have had it worse, but when he doesn't say that he's really an amazing therapist helping me with a lot more than my actual therapist could

I've was diagnosed with stress related generalized anxiety at aged 20. I was having blackouts when they were triggered and it took a toll on mentally and physically, at the time they happened so often I was losing weight due to them being like seizures.
In recent years it's become easier to cope with but the current pandemic has triggered it in the worst ways.
I HATE how people refer to mental health as attention seeking
My anxiety HATES any form of attention towards me, even if it's just my anxiety making me overthink. I keep people at a distance because my hypersensitivity brought on by an anxiety high makes me nauseous. All I want is to be able to BREATHE

I may be young, don't tell me I don't understand depression. Like seriously! I'm tired of people telling me: they know what depression is than I don't.
Its the past, let go of it: Yeah not like I deal with emotional trauma and a divorce everyday. I interact with my divorced parents everyday. So yeah they got divorced in the past but I relive the pain everyday
Atleast you have ______: Im not asking for anything, I just wanna br happy, feel alright again. But is that still to much to ask!
I have it way worse: Lets say Physical Abuse and divorce. They are so different, so saying you have it worse doesn't even make sense. Plus-It isn't a competition?

My ex when he broke up with me:
I know these are things you cannot control, but I was always stressed out because of your mental health. I feel like everything you did gave me low self-esteem. But you are a good person, I know you cant control those things.
I got over him, but not over the reasons
I did my best to love someone, even when I was broken on the inside. He was the one that reached out for me, but was also the one who decided to leave me.
It just hurts to know that after youve tired so hard to help another person, to love them, and to support them all that was all forgotten, and all the remember is your depression and neediness.

For me personally Ive heard thats an excuse a lot. A lot of them being followed by neurotypical people explaining a hard experience theyve encountered that is similar or supposedly worse than yours that theyve overcome (sometimes without difficulty. I just wanna say Congratulations, you managed to do something better than me without a mental illness. I would give you a metal but I think you just said that to brag and make me feel worse for not functioning like a normal person.

Oh I heard ALL of these things! And the worse and most frustrating thing is. They never listen. Saying things here and there. things they heard only, and never actually done their research. and I'm not even allowed to consult an expert! Last school year, my school os offering me a free check-up and diagnosis, but hey, my parents won't just let me. And afterwards they kept telling me that I should just act and think that I'm normal to be normal! Like. what the heck!

My first neurologists head nurse called me a faker because she couldnt force me to have a seizure. Even after the doctor said that yes I do have epilepsy. Dont know why, but she seemed pissed that she couldnt make me have one.
Ive got a new neurologist now. He gave me the med I take now and Im so much better. Still have nasty seizures every once in a while but Im not constantly having absence seizures like before.

I know someone with the victim mentality that is severely depresses and the anxiety is over the roof. Can't function very well at work and every advise is an insult. Since the person knows everything then I kept my distance. This person disturb everyone around at work and the family rejected her to the point of no contact. As much as Ill like to be supportive I see trouble ahead so I keep my distance.

The most annoying one I've heard is, Why do you need it to be something wrong with you? Go to bed. That's by my mother, my aunt, and my step-father. And they laughed as if it was a joke after this statement.
I walked back upstairs, humiliated by people that I love. I swore to myself that day last week that I wouldn't share anything else with them.

Anyone seen an instance where someone saw that another person made a post on twitter that vaguely hinted at suicide/self harm, and then somehow told the person posting it that they were a scummy person for that?
That is what I would consider to be the most annoying and frankly damaging thing to say to someone with a mental illness.

I think just be there to listen to someone else's story can make a significant changes on someone's mental health, therefore, decreases the population of those who's suffering to it drastically.
That's why I want to equip myself with knowledge all about these, for me to become a good friend, if not that great.
Thank you Ma'am for this!

I'm upfront with my spouse soon as feel bad mentally. I tell him I'm not in a good mood, mental is messed up. Then later that day he asked are you okay? What's wrong?
It's extremely irritating because I just told you what's wrong. Then he may ask again the next day. Then I'm wrong when my tone changes and tell him I just told you.

Things that get on my nerves is
1. Would you rather be happy or miserable?
2. Get over it or cut it out
3. You seem happy
4. Smile
5. Some people have it worse
How many of these 5 are harmful and if anyone can tell me which of these five are harmful whether it be 1 a few or all of them that would be great

My father wanted to talk with a psychologist to ask questions, to see if I could be faking it. :( He doesnt get that I have a mental illness, nor does he seem to want to accept it. He seems to prefer thinking that Im just a bad person, that Im behaving poorly.

Before you tell someone with a mental illness to stop seeking attention because someone has it worse, think about your own life struggles. Somebody probably has worse, but does that automatically invalidate yours? No? So why theirs?
