8 Signs You May Be Emotionally Triggered

video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
An emotional trigger is an event that evokes an emotional reaction, usually a negative one. Examples of emotional triggers include words, gestures, sounds, images, and smells. Emotional triggers can also cause flashbacks, forcing the person having them to relive traumatic events such as the death of a loved one, abuse, an accident, or a medical procedure. You may not be able to recognize or anticipate the emotional triggers in your life, but there are a few common signs that you have emotional triggers. Previously, we also made a video on C-PTSD

i have ocd, and getting triggered is exhausting, and frankly one of the worst things i've dealt with. thankfully, my trigger word is kinda obscure, so i don't get triggered very often. and it's starting to get better, too! i laugh sometimes when i think about my trigger like lol i used to get so scared by something so minor but when OTHER people say it or when someone says something that sounds like it OR when i read it is when it gets. scary. i just got triggered a few minutes ago and it was almost surreal how quickly my state of mind changed. i was just having fun, joking around, and then word was said in EXTREME DETAIL and it felt like all the windows around me shattered, the power went out and air raid sirens went off in my head. the obsessive thoughts rushed into my head, and i felt like i needed to do something, anything at all to feel SAFE. stressful, right? i didnt want to make it seem like i was literally having a panic attack so i waited a few seconds (which was not in my favor as the word was mentioned again, acted out, and talked about in even more detail) and said i needed to run to the bathroom to change my bandaid. thank god i slammed my pinky in the car door last week, right? i changed my bandaid and pretended like my finger was in so much pain just so we could change the subject. i cried so hard in that bathroom, but getting it all out of my system like that was beneficial sorta, like all the tears and snot were my ocd leaving my body. all the compulsions and rituals escaping from my brain, giving me peace temporarily.
wow just needed to talk about that lol and just a heads up: do NOT try to ask what my trigger word is or try to guess what it is, because it brings me so much discomfort as you just read!

I feel so bad. She was just making a joke and I freaked out a lot, she doesn't know about my past, and I'm not ready to tell her about it because I'm still trying to process it myself. She's really mad at me, she's ignored me for a week now, and I think I'm going to have to tell her, but I know it's going to ruin everything. It's happened before, either people feel so awkward about it that they have a hard time talking to you like a normal person and they slowly cut you off or they pity you like crazy, and you're always treated like the poor charity case. They never treat you the same as before, in my experience. She was my best friend too. I didn't think it would still hurt this much, having people ditch you or having to leave someone is something I should be used to by now, but it still hurts the same way it did the first time. I'm sorry I couldn't open up to you, I feel like I'm just trapped in my past, and I don't know how to move on from it.

Yeah I got to deal with traumatic brain injury. Being biologically altered by hazardous material dump of Niagara Falls New York hooker Chemical Company thank you assholes. Not just TBI I also have spectral Asperger's ADHD. Schizophrenia complex pstc and a new development apparently call Todd's syndrome and I've been living on the streets and dust far all the psychiatrist want nothing more than a couple of bucks and want to cage me off that will not happen so I got to run a chance of having a cop shoot me the back of the head because he has a bad day and can't argue or keep his hands in his pockets. And my great Discerning feeling is that because the educational background if I own studies in psychology when I was in college these mother suckers out here don't know how to diagnose a shoe strap because I've been so misdiagnose I won't even go into any more screw it

This is me right now. I was dealing with a narcissistic boy that used me for lust with false promises until his gf got out of rehab. He was sweet and nice in the beginning, then he started to get emotionally abusive and racist and was gaslighting me. He made me feel guilty for my situation Im in (living with fam rn, hed make excuses, and called me childish. Ive been numb and irritable and depressed and emotionally triggered. I lose sleep, and tbh starting drinking a lil to numb my triggers and thoughts down. I feel like a spoiled bruised and damaged potato thats psychologically stuck and numb and it hurts. I feel helpless I get triggered easily. And I hate it. I dont trust anyone not even my friends or family. I feel paranoid, and I hate going through this.

I have been feeling overwhelmed due to the fact that I have type two diabetes and my blood sugars are high. I have had mood swings and sadness due to my condition, pain in my feet which also causes me to feel overwhelmed and burned out, I am almost in constant fear that my condition will get worse and I will end up having a bad lifestyle due to my condition. There are no support groups in my area for me to talk to other people about my condition which makes my matters worse. I try to think to myself that I will get better and will get better soon. My doctors are notified that I do have situational anxiety disorder which has gotten worse since my condition has worsened. Add coronavirus concerns on top of it all, and I am just in stress overload.

Yeah I had an emotional breakdown once I got evicted from my apartment cuz of my handicap and when I was in court and gave them the key to the apartment they did not want to hear any of my face they just want the keys and told me to get the hell out so I curled up like a ball at Sports and start a try after 30 minutes of that if no one really gave a s my civil rights were trampled if I just have the means to have adequate justice system other than play wants to be in there so they can pick their 500 or $1, 500 from the government for housing people and all they do is turn around and let some of these assholes out and they hurt people what about the people that are really really really really really try it don't give a flying f about them

Utah is where I grew up and where all of my trauma happened. I was abused by my father because I was blamed for what someone else did and refused to accept punishment for it. I was in trouble numerous times at school for fighting back at a bully and acting out when being punished for it. by saying He does the same thing to me all the time! Why must I be punished for it and not him? I hated school for that very reason Almost everyone I knew had it in for me one way or another. I feared abuse from my father most is I didn't go to school. Yet teachers wondered why I behaved this way towards everyone. As far as they were concerned, these were all good kids. But to me they were all bullies. So I decided to just take it to avoid any punishment.

i really don't know where else to say this so i will just say it here and maybe have some hope that someone might have some advice. So when i was kid i lost my brother because of cancer and my family hide his sickness from me so for me feel like a sudden death and idk ever since then i feel like i am always holding my breath as if i relax then something horrible will happen and something that especially triggers me is something happening to a loved one. i have done therapy but it just feels like something that i will have to live with, if any of you have any advice on how to handle this, i would really appreciate it

I remember how back in 2019, whenever there was a bad event and people tweeted about it in Twitter, I still remained calm and managed my emotions during that troubling time, while still of course being frustrated by the event. But now, ever since last year, I cant be on there without taking things to heart and being emotionally drained. Maybe its because that weve kept having bad news after bad news every day last year and we didnt get a single break. And how weve been in a pandemic for a year and we didnt have any relief? Either way, I cant be on social media for a long period of time right now.

I always say I had a good childhood. Nothing too rough, uncomfortable or difficult happened to me. Yet Ive been afflicted with every one of these signs, resulting from panic attacks. It took years for me to learn what was triggering me, how to de-escalate my panicking/paranoid mind, and then finally how to grow beyond just surviving my fear. To heal from it. Ill never stop being afraid and I have to continue to try and improve my self-confidence, to take care of myself. I wish Id sought professional help earlier in life, and not let myself struggle alone, but Im better now.

If I can share one of mine. One of mine is alcohol. I get panicky when someone talks abt it and if someone gets drunk I get mad and want to yell at them, which then Im told that I need to suck it up. But this trigger was caused by my dad coming home really drunk and threw up. I also get on the verge of tears around alcohol and get scared that my loved ones are gonna get drunk when they have alcohol. I hope Im not being rude by sharing one of my many triggers! As this is the only place I feel comfortable sharing this with ppl.

I am affected to most if the comments about depression you mentioned. Also, l've stopped going down to the dining room in the independent living facility where l live, so l don't have to run into the other residents, main reason. Second reason is that l have no appetite, but l do snack on food from my fridge. ( So l satisfy my hunger, but l don't have to interract with anyone.
I'm too tired to go downstairs, anyway, let alone interacting with others.

I just started a new job. Third week in. Night time stocker. One coworker who I know is just trying to get the work done keeps ordering me around and more then likely not knowing it talks to me like I'm an idiot and I think back on how back in my old job where I worked for seven years at a Navy Galley the supervisors did the same. Ignoring me, treating me like an idiot or a little kid, etc. I don't know if this a trigger or not.

Im usually the one in the family who cooks, I have been suffering with an eating disorder for almost 2 years now and I lived cooking for some reason. Now however cooking is starting to trigger me. People talking about food or cooking triggers me and even thinking about food triggers me. Before I was just addicted to eating but now I have so many triggers. I just start crying and I cant breathe properly for a few seconds. Its horrible.

Several of these I do relate to. I have ptsd related to people telling me I will be a dangerous person just cos I am into being a girly girl: ( Also, it seems the trauma tends to be triggered when I eat foods with added sugar, so I am trying to ween myself off eating such foods. its not easy; I love the taste of sweets. And sugar free is not that easy to get. But I need to think of my mental health.

I thought I was fine with it but seems like my trigger point is being misunderstood as rude or disrespectful. It just reminds me of those unpleasant experiences with my parents, relatives and teachers, which left me with so many questions and they are still irritating me.
Sorry for being an unstable bomb, I shouldve noticed this earlier. Id better find my way to heal and not talk too much.

I can't really self diagnose myself with any of this since it's for educational purposes and self diagnosing isn't really something people should do, but I really am certain about almost ALL of this happens to me everytime I hear this specific word and that specific word, except the can't sleep properly one, and it's sad cuz I live in fear all the time and it's so stressful

I get flashbacks from having a argument with a friend and I have trouble sleeping. These past few days I have been crying at night while my family is sleeping. I tell my parents but they tell me that Im just overreacting or being dramatic. Whenever I argue with my parents my hands start to shake and my heart feels like it drops.

I worry about having a breakdown all the time now, I get frustrated because it is embarrassing and people will look at me or ask questions but I just want to get away before It becomes apparent.
Thank you for the informative video, I hope everyone stays safe and has a good day.

I have most of these and I found a way to kinda distance my self mentally from them by thinking like I'm telling my story. It took some time but it works. It's like mentally venting, and the best part about it is that I don't have to worry about someone judging me.
reply

Ok idk where else to put this but I have A breakdown whenever I clean my room and I get quite bad depressive episodes when my bff tells me my room is messy and last time it got so bad that it set of an eating disorder and for me to cut myself

My triggers are usually positive, yet not sure if they are mature or appropriate. And it can cause me to not be detail oriented on everyday tasks. I feel inspired yet other may feel love bombed if i acted on it. is that being triggered?
