Did you know that your gut health has an impact on your mental health? A far greater one than you may realize. Research shows that the microbiota living in your gut communicates with neurotransmitters in your brain and vice versa via the vagus nerve. Watch this video to learn about the foods you should avoid if you have depression. We also made another video on the foods you should avoid if you have anxiety

After getting tested and diagnosed with iron and Vitamin B12 deficiency, I started getting supplements for these ingredients.
Near the end of the prescripted therapy I followed I would feel not only my energy but my mood improved as well. This was when I found out that low Vitamin B12 levels are culprits of depression and moodswings.
Since you get Vitamin B12 from certain foods like beef, after watching this video this made me think of how food can essentialy affect our mental health.

This is a good vid to watch just after Christmas. I have been eating loads of sugary stuff and lots of refined grains - and my depression has hit me really hard today! I have also put on weight after losing nearly 30lbs this year! SO - after New Year I will be cutting out as much of the bad stuff as I can, and get back onto the healthy diet and want to lose this weight, as well as some more along with it! Hopefully the changes in my diet along with the weight loss will clear my depression again!

Not only that, but most of these foods are also extremely calorie-dense and low-satiety, leading to overeating. Obesity is a major contributor to depression, especially if coupled with lack of exercise, and depression can also contribute to obesity when we use food as a coping mechanism. Knowing this, I wonder about the comorbidity rate of depression and EDs. But TLDR, eat natural, healthy foods that are minimally processed.

See the books and research by Australian Prof Felice Jacka (Brain Changers) and the works by Prof Julia Rucklidge based in NZ. They 100% show through research that diet affects mental health. DEFINITELY give up fast food, sugar and refined carbs - this is good advice anyway, also see Michael Pollan's Food Rules: eat food ( ie real food, nut junk, mostly plants, not too much.

Remember though you can still eat these foods just don't do it too often otherwise there may be consequences as increase in depressive thoughts. If your deppression is getting better then go ahead grab a slice but if you are currently dealing with more severe depression please do try to stay away from these foods

Yeah, the thing is I like being depressed, makes me cry every day and stuff but I like it, it makes me understand the harder things in life, plus my depression would take years and years and years to fully embrace, cuz of the environment I put myself on purposely

Does the grain thing mean there needs to be actual grains in the bread I eat, or? Cause I already eat a medium coarse type of bread. Because of my autism I cant really handle the taste of any nuts or those very chewy bread types that are full of grain.

Since I eat healthier I feel way better in my body and life! I also lost weight what added to that.
I have depression in like waves and the second I eat something sugary and greasy it comes all over me again.

the thing is, I cant avoid salt because I actually need more of it than others because of low blood pressure: ) (I've been diagnosed with depression, too low blood pressure and a cardiovascular weakness)

Its understandable for Venti to cope in alcohol cause his friend litteraly died- and his pet Dvalin was hurt as well, oh and his thingy got stolen by Signora (only to be murdered by Tabibito-san)

Fried foods (especially fried chicken) are the only things I can stomach. It probably is making my depression worse but almost everything else upsets my stomach and I don't want to eat it.

I gave up sugary food and drinks. It helped with my depression and also cleared my skin. I still eat sweets tho. but only to reward myself if I accomplish something of my personal goals

So your advice is if you are depressed you should avoid all the types of food that make you happy. If it brings you joy, don't eat it. Gee thanks, that'll help.

Notice they said go to a therapist if you're using alcohol to cope, not to quit cold turkey or shame yourself if you can't stop right away.
