Do you suspect that you grew up with toxic family members? Toxic relationships, or toxic people can come from the people closest to you Hannah: My mom is so toxic and controlling. Its really sad because we used to be so close. when I started getting in my later teens I realized how toxic and controlling she was compared to my friends parents. I couldnt have a car, I couldnt go to concerts, I couldnt have sleepovers, no parties, complained about all my friends and my bf etc but when it came to paying the bills or cleaning the house or listening to her problems all day that was fine by her. On top of that I work my tail off to make my money and help support her and she has the NERVE to complain that shes lonely and we never spend time together. Shes not as over protective now that Im 21 but when I told her I want to/am going to move out she flipped. She says things like: your ruining my health, I dont have the money to live in my own, your going to make me homeless, I cant get a job because my anxiety is too bad, you cant afford it etc. she makes me feel so guilty for desiring to do normal things for my age. I still dont have a car, she encourages me not to go to college, etc. Im starting to think she doesnt want me to do well in life. because her actions say way different than her words. I feel guilty but its not my responsibility to take care of my mother financially, emotionally etc

My family is very toxic. Especially when they all are now vaping. my grandma/mom is the worst of them all. She constantly invades my space, shames me, belittled me, and makes me feel like I'm not important. I can't talk to her about anything. I hate her with all of my gut and hate showing anymore affection to such a toxic member. She claims she loves me and does everything she does because of it, but I think that's a complete lie and just an excuse to keep me shut and quiet.
My grandpa is okay. Well, used to be. Ever since I was a kid, I saw him as my hero. He often stopped his wife from yelling at me or prevented her from hitting me. But as I grew older and he lost his leg, I don't see him as anything but someone broken and gaining toxicity from my grandma/mom.
My brother and dad are the only normal ones that I think love me. Sure they sometimes bust into my shared room with my brother, but I don't mind it too much since they are 100 times better than anyone else in my current house hold. I'm struggling a lot and really do want it all to end eventually. Because I'm very close to ending it myself in many different or various ways.

You wanna stay away from them you want to let them live by themselves and let you feel independent but then you'll have to consider being a responsible daughter and you don't want to hurt them back even tho everything you do is never enough for them or even if they're enough they simply just don't want to appreciate you but still you just can't think of disappointing them intentionally. idk It just feels unfair. 6 yo me didn't know that her mother were on a fight with her brother and just BC I talked to my uncle's daughter (my cousin) she brought me home and kicked on my stomach making me me bleed from my mouth(she said I was acting, 10 yo me wanted to go to her cousin's home to celebrate their birthday but her dad didn't let her go instead he locked her up in a dark room for 3 hours. Im 19 now and I can't go out to celebrate my own birthday and I can't attend my cousin's wedding. But Im still considering to respect them and convincing myself that they did all of these for my own good.

1. When it comes to communication, my won't SHUT UP long enough to let me finish what I have to say. Just awhile ago, I was trying to get it across about how hard it is to keep on a budget in these days, but my sis butted in & said, Well, YOU NEED to get on a budget and STICK TO IT! I TRIED to tell her that, but she butted in AGAIN and said, Well, you just need to do is JUST CUT BACK on. So I blew up and TRIED to tell her that I was already doing without a few of my frivolous things (which are often the things that keep me mentally healthy, but she butted in AGAIN, and we had it out. No matter what I did, or how much I sacrifice for them, I was wrong and I needed to do whatever they wanted, even if it cost me EVERYTHING, ESPECIALLY MY SANITY.
Btw, they don't think that my depression & anxiety attacks are real, and that I just need to man up and grow up.

I love my family and they love me, but sometimes I feel they are too critical of me specifically. I always feel awkward doing anything outside of my usual behavior because I always get asked, what Im doing? Or youve never done this before. When I was younger, I would be asked to do something that I had not done before and when I took longer than expected I would be told, You are helpless. If its not right smack in front of you you wont see it. If you have to try you wont do it. Im also the joke of its your fault. Despite my family thinking its a joke, it weighs on me heavily. It used to be funny, but now that Im older I realize I should have stopped it much earlier rather than just resigning to it.

Even though I know my family dynamics are toxic I still wanted to watch this video for the comments, just to relate to someone, my parents arent that toxic but its my grandparents and we pretty much live with them I feel Im going insane because of the games they play and the worst part is that no one is allowed to confront them so basically they can do whatever and say whatever and it just slides Im so exhausted I just want to move out. I dont know who to talk to because no one understands or theyll just say you need to confront your grandparents when I literally cant and I dont want to trauma dump.

I was anxious at family gatherings because I never knew when my dad would try to embarrass me. He hated that my family members might want to hear what I had to say and might laugh at an occasional joke I would tell. So, he'd devise a way to scold me for being bad in front of everyone and say things like You're going to die alone, mind you, we were visiting my aunt and her family and this happened at the dinner table. He just kept shouting at me until I started crying. He literally ruined dinner just to make sure I didn't enjoy myself.

Its hard growing up the way I did. Not everything was touch on as in this video, but a enough was. Its really hard to look at my family immediate family and the looking at my S. O. Family dynamic. I am often jealous of his families dynamic. It makes me so sad sometimes, to I avoid having to interact with his family because of it. Not because I cant handle it, but because Im stoping myself from crying the whole time. Im getting better, but some days its still hard.

2. My family doesn't respect me at all. I'm the butt of someone's joke EVERY SINGLE DAY. My brother in law keeps addressing me as HEY, HOMO! because I'm gay. Whenever we have company (I HAVE to live with my mom because she is old & I have mental issues, my mom likes to crack jokes with them about ANYTHING that I do in my daily life. And she doesn't think that it's wrong, even though THEY say that she shouldn't talk about me like that!

3. My family uses criticism as a WMD. They simply LOVE talking down about anyone and everyone. But they never seem to talk about what they should change about THEMSELVES. And whenever they see that THEY are in the wrong about something that THEY do, they either quickly change the subject, or make an excuse for THEMSELVES. This is mainly why my own social media is full of criticism and vitriol for whoever gets in MY craw that day.

Toxic family (Im comparing btw, this didnt happen)
When its someone you loves bday: tries to make them something like a cake
That love one: Why did you make a mess? Its my birthday why cant you cooperate?
Doesnt respond
That love one: Why are you still going, clean up everything oh my gosh
Does respond with something kind like its your birthday
Them: Why did you just respond to me? How rude.

When you go and visit and have to watch your every move and everyone is looking at you and having side conversations while looking at you also putting you on blast in front of everyone. Thats toxic and why Id dont go around anymore. Ive learned to back away and that keeps me Sane stress free and happy. Im not gonna lie it hurts but sometimes you gotta love from AFAR

4. My parents, brother, sister and I all lived in a 2-bedroom trailer while we were growing up. Privacy was both something we couldn't afford, both financially and because my parents made sure that we kids weren't up to no good. My parents eventually HAD to rebuild & redesign the house to where we would have our own rooms, but only when we were finally TEENAGERS.

My mom is very toxic. I always help her everytime she calls me, but she still says that none of this family member is gonna help her ( like am I a joke to you ) I really want to tell my mom about this video, but if I do that, she'll just gonna get angrier and that will results she will kick me out of his house and never come back

When I was in fourth grade, my mom had read my diary in my outlook on school, and how nobody in the class liked me and everyone was bullies and after she had read that she showed it to my teacher and one day on my way out from getting out of class and the teacher came up to me and said stop acting like the victim your fine

best part is how Im treated worse than my younger sibling. Many times Im not even sure why the force was used even tho there was no need for it. They just make me angry and annoyed and irritate me, so when im amgry about it, its my fault and the fights happen. when they do, nobody cares.

The thing is, when I was a young kid before I moved with my stepparents my grandparents (that are not dead yet) and my stepparents are the healthy side, while my old parents that died due to: smoking and a gun shot were the toxic ones that got drunk well they were mentally abusing me
reply

I have been body shamed since i was 4 or 5 years old about how skinny i am but now its been 6 years now and they still do it i thought it was normal for family members to treat each other like that and i became more insecure the more they body shamed and criticize me

One time my parents locked me outside overnight and I went to my neighbors house and they called cps and my parents said that they didnt have a child which was a flat out lie then they brought me in and blame me for calling cps now I have a black eye bc of that

I simply cannot remember when my family EVER chose to HUG me, even after I came home from the hospital for nearly dying. Hugs just aren't done in my family, no matter how much someone has been hurt.
