Depression is a disorder rampant world over. With so much information available about this mental disorder, one would think they know everything there is to know. But surprisingly there are still areas regarding depression that are quite obscure. Many resources simply list symptoms of depression. Most people who talk about depression paint a picture of someone lying in bed under the covers without any energy or motivation. Although fatigue is a telltale sign of depression, it is not the only one. There is a myriad of subtle personality shifts that occur when you slip into a depressive state

i'm bipolar, so i have hypomania off my meds. however, i have emotional toggling while on my meds. other than that, this video applies to me so much, it's scary. it's scary how it feels like someone has watched my life and made a video about it, because i feel so alone. and then i meet people like me, and it comforts me a little, but knowing they are suffering too does not fix anything. and number five. i never knew my depression was the cause of my perfectionism, but my god, it explains a lot. when i make a tiny mistake that no one will notice, I NOTICE, therefore, i can't do anything right and i'm worthless. if i look at my face and see a tiny blemish that no one will notice, i'm an ugly piece of shit and should die. i'm gaining so much weight because of emotional binge eating, and i feel like the ugliest, most hopeless person on the planet. a lot of this, though, is also caused by PTSD.

I had a pretty dark period in sixth form. I knew some of these were because of that but things like emotional toggling, I didnt even know about and actually was one of the reasons I thought I couldnt possibly have depression because I felt so good when I was with my friends. Also I didnt know that exercise could help with emotional fog. Although I am slowly doing much better now my memory still isnt great and that is something Id definitely like to try. Thank you this has been a really refreshing and validating video that helps me feel sympathy for myself in the last few years. Thank you so much Psych2Go

I been suffering for loneliness and depression for 3 years now and I really don't know what to do with myself currently. I do have friends and family's like most people out there do, but something special is really missing for me in my life and I really don't know what it is for me. That last special puzzle piece is really missing for me out their and its important. Trying to figure out what it means. I just hate being outshine by people and of course popular users online and I'm really getting sick of tired of it. Feels like I'm getting a death sentence. I'm just unlucky.

The guilt factor is probably the most relatable mention from my past experience, but a lot of these symptoms happened and even mixed and matched in a really bad way. I would switch from sad to happy as soon as something nice happened and then back to sad, and then I would feel insanely intense guilt that I had no right to be depressed because there wasn't any traumatic event that ever happened or something. At the time I was confused about my emotions, but thanks to your videos I now understand I did have depression, and am more thankful for the fact that I got better

I feel like I have depression, anxiety and ADD but Im not sure. Im pretty sure I have Pica, however, but I dont want to self-diagnose so I leave that to the proffesionals. Ive done research and thoroughly watched many videos about it, and most of the symptoms Ive related to. I have a counsellor and I try to tell her, but she says it might just be hormones. I want to tell my mum, but mental illness is usually never talked about or taken seriously. I dont know what to do and its really frustrating me.

All you have said is true and all truth right now I have to do homework but instead I lay down in bed and watch vids about psychology, and all you said in the vid really effects my life and I-i dont know what to do sometimes but sometimes I felt like nothing happened yesterday im all happy and jolly, and sometimes my eyes unfocust on its own felt like im so tired and lose concentration in my studies. Im just always speechless when my mom ask me if im fine like my mind went blank.

Maybe I waited to long, i waited 5 years before I told anyone, I have only decided to tell a friend, the only person who I have said anything to, and I just emptied out to them, I put on a perfect life style to them like nothing was wring with me yet I would go home and sit alone and cry to myself each day, yet now I feel worse than ever before, self harming and a lot more suicidal thoughts, I have multiple times planned out what I will do but scared to go through with it

This is me -> guilt for failing at things I was actually unprepared for -> accumulating things I should have done earlier -> rigid perfectionism makes me hang onto all of those missed opportunities, instead of just letting go -> baggage keeps getting bigger as time goes by -> addiction to screens to cop out of sense of failure, loneliness, and lack of support -> inability to concentrate -> more failure and more guilt -> repeat.

I don't know who I am anymore. I recently landed in some hot water involving an impulsive decision and most people think I'm a criminal. While I'm diagnoised with Autism, I know Autistic people don't do the things I do. I'm in this constant internal battle where impulsivity takes over and makes me do impulsive decisions.
Sorry for the rant, I just need people to understand how my life is a constant struggle

I have most symptoms of depression and I am struggling but I dont have the courage to tell anyone incase its false or Im making it up. I dont really know what to do. I always feel extremely guilty with my actions and remembers a lot of things that are little but makes me feel guilty. I feel constantly sad, gloomy and tired. Even as I am writing this comment I feel like Im going to regret it later.

The emotional toggling one that hit me. I mentioned years ago that depression felt like I had an invisible light switch in my brain that switches on and off when I least expect it. I could feel ok one minute, then very sad the next even when nothing bad happened all day. Ill be thinking about something sad and it will send me down a depressive rabbit hole for awhile until I eventually get over it.

I have all of these symptoms but the first one. I'm scared to talk to my therapist and my family about me feel terrible because my family things it's somthing I'll grow out of and say I want attention so I'm scared to talk to anyone about it. The worst part is my friends have told me since I was 11 that have depression symptoms and should talk to someone but I never can.

I hope i can reach out to a psychologist or a counselor in our country. My parents don't even know i have been in a depressive state for how many months now. What i just know is that, i am ignoring what i feel because one thing about me, I don't like feeling sad. I want to feel better now. Everyday i always wish for better days to come, and the cycle just continues.

They should do sit-ups where the upper part of the abdomen is worked, with the legs raised and trying to touch the feet with the hands and its variants that work the upper part of the abdomen, they will see improvements quickly. That upper abdominal exercise will take away your depression and anxiety, it will also heal your mind.

I can't find a source anywhere for any good psychedelics in my area, I suffer some pretty bad depression and i got a chance to try K and man it was a miracle substance, I felt free, the only high or euphoria was from the relief of my vices being released, that's exactly what it did

I might be getting this wrong, but the six things you listed, all of those happen to me. An example is felt guilty for things that happened years ago, but I probably was forgiven. It not sure if I actually have depression, but I'm not even sure if you're the right person to ask.

Psilocybin containing mushrooms saved my life. The drastically reduced my benzodiazepine withdrawal allowing me to quite illicit pill addiction after three years of heavy daily use before it would had became medically dangerous to quit. It has also helped me survive depression.

I dont know if this has anything to do with this, but I forget words a lot, in my native language mostly, whilst speaking I can forget a word like carrot, or something like that, and I have to pause and think about it for a while, and I've known this language my whole life

The fact that I get. Angry sad about the smallest things and just feel like telling someone everything I go through but the most saddest part about it is when you get it because of your mom when your mom dosent even understand how you feel what you want to tell

It's weird because i'm so used to thinking this way and feeling all of these thing that i see them as normal and it surprises me when i realize not everyone feels this way, i have my first therapy appointment this saturday and i'm really looking forward to it: )

Not sure if it was stated in a comment or in another video, if it wasnt I think I would like to know ways you can help someone with depression. I know quite a few people who have these and some are seeking therapy but it doesnt seem to work.
reply

Some of these symptoms I saw them in myself and in my girlfriend. I was able to tackle them before they got to a bad stage, and that's what we are doing with my girlfriend. Depression is real, check on all those who are around you. Always.

This helped so much thank you! Because at first I was denying about the fact that I have depression because I can still feel happiness. Because I thought being depressed=being sad all the time. So thank you so much!
reply

I relate to all of them, emotional toggling in the way I experience it is I can laugh with friends, or when watching a funny video, but then after I feel sad. and several others. mood swings, sadness, and several others.
reply

i always thought my random emotion changes and guilt tripping myself was just a mood, this happens on a daily bases. Now knowing it was depression this helps me seek better help than just sleeping it off.
