The racism one hit home for me. Growing up in Oregon, one of the whitest states in the country, I stopped trying to connect with others because of the strong walls people (intentionally or not) built between us. A lot of people think I would have more in common with some random person from Atlanta Georgia just because we are both black. White people would meet a black person and because of that, try to set me up with them, subtly suggesting anti-biracial rhetoric.
My white friends were so passive in the connections. My friends would click so much easier and deeper with other white people, and it would take years for my relationships to move to the next level. Because white people dont like talking about racism they never ask me about my family and my hardships. In so many ways Oregonian children suggest racial social segregation and because it is soooo white (also in the science community especially) I struggled to emotionally connect with pretty much everyone. I was convinced that I was too different for anyone to understand me or be interested in understanding me.
It took quite some time into my adulthood to build connections with people (of all races. I eventually just realized that some white people are uncomfortable around people of color and I just dont waste any more time thinking Im not good enough I just move on to those that give me good vibes: )

I recently turned 18 and my very abusive mother recently came to me and actually apologised. She admitted to the abuse, all of it.
She did say it wasn't her fault, it was her diabetes and now diagnosed BPD that went hidden for years. I tried to explain to her that yes, they had a factor, but that doesn't excuse it.
For the first time in 18 years my mother hugged me. I sobbed like a baby.
I have been showing my mum these videos, and she has been going to therapy. She still has a long way to go, and I'm in therapy for what she did, but the fact she is genuinely trying to be a better mother means the world to me. I know she's 18 years late and all my friends are saying she's just trying to manipulate and control me again, but Idk. I'm glad to see her finally noticing and admitting to her behaviours. I just hope she continues to flourish and undo her negative behaviours

Did you know that there is probably no living autistic person who doesn't have trauma?
Due to many neurotypical people wanting us to act like them, many of us are forced to mask (autistic masking) in order to have a higher chance of being taken seriously. So many people barely want to use the word autistic due to the stigma attached around it. We're also 3-9x times as likely to try and take our own lives due to almost always being stressed about everything.
Without the pressure neurotypical people put on both themselves and others, we feel free. But expecting us to try and keep up with neurotypical people will make us burnout, and autistic burnouts takes YEARS to recover from. Most of our problems stems merely from ableism alone.

Thank You all at Psych2go. A vert unusual trend that I saw recently that resonated with my life was a finding that dependent on the type or type's of trauma, including neglect, will give the appearance of mental retardation. A heavy burden, in as much as the healing is slow and the sufferer has only the afterward of their live's to realize the amount and kind's of loss that has led them down too many unproductive path's. Life in our fast paced world situation does not account for a frailty not of our own doing. And this loss is our's. A constant vigil is at hand to just keep up with all of our world traveler's. This world is growing smaller and moving faster with each passing day and every new person and convenience.

I really needed this today. Lately I've been struggling with trying to get past the threshold of consciously figuring out making decisions when my unconscious self has been running my depression on overdrive from things I genuinely couldn't figure out. I have a pretty good family never starved or left injured and not tendered to, it was just the emotional side that truly lacked. Dealing with making my own big choices as an adult is a massive issue for me. it sounds like all signs are pointing me towards I've done all I can myself that I can do alone without professional help. now it's a matter of over coming the obstacle of telling myself I'll figure it out and it'll be to expensive to get help anyways

I think I can relate to #4. I dont know why I feel stressed or why I feel like Im in Fight or flight mode all the time. I was born into a family more functioning than others, I have good friends, I have lots of support, but I struggle with socializing for some reason. Its like I forgot how if that makes sense. Every time someone I know but not close to talks to me I get super stressed and then at night I think back and cringe constantly at myself and how they probably think Im weird now. Its bad, and I hate how my heart races, how sweaty I get, and how embarrassed I feel after talking with anyone. The only people I can really talk to openly are my parents, and sometimes not even them

I have trauma from 2, 3, and 4. Ive lost a lot of people in my life, ranging from family members to a favorite YTer of mine, even a kid I didnt even know too well but he went to my middle school too. My childhood was dysfunctional due to my grandma abusing me, and my family overall not being as good as it shouldve been at the time, I dont remember much of my childhood, so I cant say much else. Ive also had chronic stress in my childhood due to being bullied at school, abused at home, and not having many people to talk to about it at the time, plus having anxiety and depression around that time as well.

For any parents, either close to becoming a parent, to wanting a child I just want to say something.
SPEND TIME WITH YOUR CHILDREN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! My parents have always been busy with work and we never really get to do anything together, they've made me feel like I was nothing and just, yk, there. They also know I've been struggling with strong emotions and said it was too early in my life to be feelings those things. Please please please, don't do the same thing they did.

I think I may have tramua-induced memory loss.
I have few memories of my childhood, and I've lost my sense of time significantly. I have a very hard time remembering anything, especially when it involves my parents, I know they did something bad but I can't remember what. And I hate how they always use it against me in arguments, since I can't remember events clearly it's hard to for me to name what happened and when, all I know is the rough idea.

It's honestly out of hand with my traumatic experiences. My little sister passed away. My friend left me a few months after we met. The police coming into my room at around 10 pm at night while I was asleep. I was very young at that time. So I didn't even know what was going on. And then basically after that everything went downhill. I've tried to end it all multiple times. Ended up failing. I wish one could just succeed.

I grew up in a dysfunctional family (verbal and physical abuse) and experienced a lot of isolation as a young child, even in our big family. There was arguing every day and I can recall memories of feeling the need to escape or be away from home. It carried on into my adulthood and now Im unlearning the habits that protected me as a child. Its very difficult but I know I will heal over time and it will take much time.

I was in a school for a few years that couldnt support my needs. Whenever I was there Id have SO MUCH anxiety. It was horrible. I got moved to a different school that still couldnt help. So once again wherever I went Id have SO MUCH anxiety. Ive developed bad triggers from school. From that would I have trauma? I think I do. Id like to see what other people think

TBH I know NK better than they know about themself. Not even their parents knows about them nor have ever tried to understand them.
I could read their mind by their footsteps and breathe.
Never did I revealed how much I know about them. May be more than them. or a lil bit less than them.
I bet no one knows NK better than me.
Don't believe me? Ask them.

I often wonder if I have trauma from the death of my dad. I dont know though bc I was so little when it happened. And bc of this, its hard to tell how much this death impacted my mental state as I dont really remember life before the incident. Theres some aspects of my daily life that bring me back to my dads death its just I have no clue how it works

I can attest to the chronic stress one. Mine was caused by my own perfectionism during a period of my life where I had really high expectations and no time to rest. I didnt allow myself any vulnerability or imperfection and I ended up with PTSD symptoms. Dont abuse yourselves with perfectionism yall. Luckily Im on the mend: )

I always thought trauma only came from physical & intense verbal abuse. Ive always worried that I was just playing a victim or seeking attention because my parents never abused me intentionally. Glad to know that Im not overreacting & these feelings are valid.
For reference: affected by 1, 3, and 4 (hopefully not 5 & 6 in the future)

I think I have trauma because of something my father used to do up until last year. Ive never been sure if that was enough to count as trauma but recently Ive gotten a panic attack over a joke so I think it is? Its also what I think of first when I try to think about why I consider my father a bad parent

Wait, are most of these things the reason why I was super innocent and sweet while little, then took a sudden turn to having a twisted personality/humor? Should I get this checked out?

i already know this will feel validating bc its so easy to self-gaslight into thinking that only major, catastrophic events or experiences 'count' as traumatic. when that's NOT the case.
