Have to be honest, I was confused by the title having never heard the term, but it does seem accurate. I go on long walks, just thinking about stories, characters and great ideas I have, but rarely actually pursue them. Or I pick it up, for me to put it down again after only putting in a few thousand words of effort. Weirdly enough, playing videogames is rather fun for me and goals that I set, even very difficult ones, I have no real trouble striving after. I do not really know why, but it seems to be the amount of mental effort it takes correlates to my discipline.
Maybe a video about mental discipline, how to foster and maintain it and the benefits could be interesting.

My brother was in a coma at the age of 15, after he woke up at 17 years of age he had gained some waight (not sure where it came from) but after he had figure out he gained waight he started planning to workout to try and get his normal body back, he also had to go back a few grades in school making life harder for him but he tried his best to workout when he could tho he would forget, now he's 21. He had a gf, him and her workout together a lot and if anything and he tends to forget his gf will remind him. Makes me supper happy seeing him talk to me about how stronger he's getting every day.

I'm a bit stuck in it, sometimes winning that race and actually working on my poems, software programming and other stuffs. The actual frustration and rage about not wanting that frustration again alongside wasting so much time in daydreaming pushes me to get up my ass and move it towards those goals.
I'm usually low motivated on average and I have little discipline, facing all of this allows me to build up my will strength (going to gym lifting kilos despite sleepiness, being hungry, sadness, loneliness, tiredness, etc, helps me in finding the strength and will to go on)

I have a confession, This is me almost every day. From how much my mind lingers and absorbs many ideas from: Future life goals or even ordinary everyday routines. It's truly great how my mind thinks so highly of certain subjects. But, in the end, my motivation and ideas just vanishes in seconds. Either from over-procrastinating or just a lack of confidence.
However, overall it's very inspiring that I got to learn more about this topic and that I'm not alone. So thank you!
[Also can I say how adorable Stelle, March 7th and Dan Heng were

I can totally relate. Had this all my life. Now, thankfully, as a side effect of my current therapy, I'm doing this far less than before. But I do have one problem (one problem I want to talk about here, obviously I have more problems and just in casr I run out of problems I can conjure new ones just like that) though with keeping accountability. It's really hard to work on habits if everything you do has to involve a conscious decision.

I realized that i may have this condition for almost two years now, no wonder I felt stuck on making something and I could only do my work when it was complimented I wasn't like this before but things mademe feel insecure and unmotivated, I really don't know what to do at this point or how I would gradually turn mayself back one step at a time

One surprising aspect of pursuing your goals was: if feeling motivated, visualizing the success helps. But if you feel unmotivated it doesn t work, so the solution is to visualize failure instead - namely the consequences of not pursuing the goal. Something I heard on the Huberman podcast, so I guess it s scientific.

Can completely relate. This is also why i am a completionist, and a fast worker, because i have to finish my project idea before the day ends, or i will lose the mental pleasure of thinking about that idea, and stop working on it indefinitely.

Nah this is me getting ideas for a new novel where a person is stuck in a loop and the reader could keep reading it over and over again but small details change every time, they do. I've got to note this down fast.

I can only imagine the male that came up with this term is one of those anti-masturbate weirdos who think they'll get super powers if they don't splooge for a while

I'm a huge daydreamer. It does what it's supposed to do. Keeps my mind out of reality. If it weren't for daydreaming I'd have committed suicide a long time ago.

By mental masturbation, do you mean narcissistically enabling Oneself with instant gratification that it deteriorates One's stores of discipline and focus?

This explains a lot. And with ADHD, it feels a lot more present and why my mental health has felt so much worse in the past couple years
