What-s the Biggest Gun We Could Possibly Build? You mention not reaching escape velocity as the reason that the HARPs projectile couldnt stay in space, and thats just not true. Escape velocity is the velocity required to leave Earths sphere of influence, or in other words to put it in direct orbit of the Sun. Orbital velocity (the velocity required to keep from falling to the ground) is significantly lower, less than 8 km/s at the ISSs altitude.
Of course, you need more than orbital velocity to stay in orbit. If you are traveling at Earth escape velocity, you will leave Earths sphere of influence no matter what direction you travel, as long as you dont crash into the planet. If you are traveling at orbital velocity, however, you need to be moving more or less tangential to the planet to avoid crashing into it. This is a significant problem for satellites launched from the ground, since they will always have an -orbit- which intersects the ground (unless they have an onboard rocket engine for orbital insertion.

I think that we have so much more to be concerned about than any type of human weaponry, unless what's necessary for private citizens, law enforcement personnel, after major catastrophes, to avoid lootings. Military personnel too. Especially larger populations. All utilities companies should already be set to try to restore it all, emergency preparedness. Hospitals in the world too. The focus very flipped around in care for general populations well-being, the logical, instead of anything or anyone otherwise, of why it's all ongoing totally self absorbed, destructive parasitic greediness perverts effects, going to happen a great counter reactionary light applied to Earth, punishment for it all. Can't fool God, zombies. Blame shifting virtue bluffing, is absolutely useless. The true meaning of worthlessness.

Apparently, you're not familiar with the concept of -mass drivers; - they're basically just very long rail guns, designed to launch spacecraft into space. While it is unfeasible to create one on earth, creating one on the moon, mars, or mercury, is likely in the plans; the major hurdle with creating one on earth, is our atmosphere, which would either requiring us to build excessively high, and long tracks, to get over most of the atmosphere, and then put the entire system under a vacuum.
It is actually a very attractive option for launching space crafts, as you don't have to carry the enormous amounts of fuel, that conventional rockets have to, if any at all; though I'd still prefer some, for course correction, or a failsafe.

Gerald Vincent Bull (March 9, 1928 - March 22, 1990[1]) was a Canadian engineer who developed long-range artillery. He moved from project to project in his quest to economically launch a satellite using a huge artillery piece, to which end he designed the Project Babylon -supergun- for the Iraqi government.
Bull was assassinated outside his apartment in Brussels, Belgium in March 1990. [2][3][4][5][6] His assassination is believed to be the work of the Mossad over his work for the Iraqi government.

It seems we shifted to making smart munitions instead of a barrel to fire bigger bullets. Imagine how big a barrel would need to be to fire a bullet as big as RPG rocket.
The funny thing is some of these missiles can go much faster than bullets and a hell lot more destructive.

reply

nah. it can be as big as planet. just that the execution is different that you don't expect the gun powder to be billions of times stronger. it is the same strength but in greater surface area.

Let-s just pretend that humans were big enough that humans could actually use those guns then imagine how much bigger everything else would have to be
reply

Imagine if the red army captured that. Imagine how much less nuclear bombs would come into play because of the us needing to make a bigger gun.

2: 07 -imagine a gun shooting a light tank-
yes. this would be brilliant. a gun that shoots guns so you can shoot more things at a time

Odd fact, the Gustav Canon was shot at England pretty much as a joke. It accidentally hit London and destroyed a block of flats.
reply

the shells were also numbered and had to be fired one by one as each one had a bigger diameter to compensate for the barrel wear

232, 239 KG doesn't make 256 tons. It's not that difficult to measure tons when you have kilograms. It makes 232 tons.

It was pretty nice for Paris to time the exact time of the impact for Germany while they were being shelled
