How the Geography of the US is Weirder Than You Think We moved from OKC to Colorado Springs, and the fastest way is to turn off I-40 at Amarillo, and use the US Highway system to meet I-25 in Raton. That route takes you straight through Dalhart, TX. We drove that way a couple of times, and when we would go through, I would point that out. They should have one of those pointer sign poles that points it out, but I don-t know if that fact is well known enough to warrant it.

2: 36 lol what distorted-ass globe are you using? And why did you -flip it on its side- for no reason? You seem to be implying that Mexico City either has the same latitude (North-South) as Washington DC, Atlanta, and NYC--which is obviously wrong--or that they appear to have the same latitude on a globe -when you flip it on its side---which is also. wrong.

This is why I always find it so hilariously ignorant, when people from Europe say: -Why don't Americans travel to or know so little about other countries, unlike us? - It only takes 6 hours to drive from Germany to Switzerland. Start in Amarillo, Texas, drive south for 6 hours and guess where you end up? If you guessed -Still in Texas-, you were right.

China just proved half this to be false.
A bio weapoms grade virus (with a mortality % of 1-3 just shut down the globe) With what they have available nowadays?

Just so everyone knows, while Maine is the closest state to Africa, drawing a straight line on a map is not necessarily the shortest distance. You have to draw a line on a globe

reply

This is pretty neat, but didn-t really feel like a lot of -weird geography-, it was mainly just city placements and how the globe is shaped.

Point Roberts is a great example of a country holding fast to the agreement made on a border.
Also a fun spot to visit for the absurdity.

That was, truly interesting. I also knew about Reno being West of San Diego, but I didn-t know it was also completely west of Los Angeles.

Almost anyone who's watched a weather report in Texas knows Dalhart. It gets mentioned because it's usually the coldest place in Texas.

I didn-t think the IDL had anything to do with being in the Eastern or Western hemisphere. I thought it was all about the 180th meridian.

Angle Inlet in Minnesota is like that Washington town in that you have to drive through Canada to escape it, or visit it, by land

So basically if you live on Yesterday Island, go to Tomorrow Island and come back quickly, you can call yourself a time traveller?
