Europe's Unexploded Bomb Problem Also there are many unexploded bombs in the Dutch dunes because the Netherlands whas invaded and occupied by germany in ww2 and germany executed most people in the Dutch dunes and they are also there because many allied planes flew over the Netherlands and Germany whas scared of an invasion so they placed bombs after ww2 many people still died of the bombs so the Dutch government needed to make a documentary on how to detect them and how to teach your kids to not touch them but today there ar not many anymore because German troops who where captured by the allies and where prisoners in the Netherlands where forced to clean them up

the number of german people in these comments blaming the allies for all the bombs in their citys is insane. dont blame the allies, blame your F'ed up grandparents. so forgive me if im not moved by you sob stories about a leveled dresden, or the fact that you all keep having to evacuate over bombs you keep finding on a regular basis. dont blame the allies for stopping your madness, blame your grandparents for their merciless execution of 9 million jews and slavs. because of your grandparents i never got the chance to meet mine. so forgive me if i think you earned every one of those bombs.

In Italy is pretty common to find bombs, shells, old weapons etc.
I found a ww2 mortar bomb myself in a field near my house.
Once in a while someone finds a big bomb while building things and the authorities have to evacuate lots of people to remove or detonate the bomb.
Recently a guy named -Gibba- put up an entire tv show based on finding war stuff in Italy with a metal detector, it's called -metal detective-.

I oversee 2000 hektars german state forest, here in bavaria its relatively clear but even hear i find grenades or panzerfausts pretty much every month. Its very different near berlil there you can dig up an entire army worth of giant bombs, you just have to get an excevator or even by hand. Disarming is slow and people actually steal them a lot! There is a giant collectors market (illegal of course)

I-m German and when I was a child, I found one of those in our garden while playing. My parents called the police and the bomb squad arrived shortly after and put our block on lockdown. Since then, I have been affected by at least 7 different evacuations and lockdowns due to unexploded bombs. Fun times

The south of the city of Ghent in belgium gets evacuated every few years. Once they evacuated ten thousands on christmas eve I was scared at first but got used to it after the 2th & 3th time. After that everyone got a map in their post bus showing the danger zones with color codes or something.

the 2016 bomb in augsburg was defused around chrismas so they could evacuate everyone by telling them to go celebrate chrismas with family outside the potential destruction radius. but given the experience with RAF bombs noone was really afraid of it

2: 50 oh damn, I grew up and then often visited dept 30 (Senlis area) in the 80s/90s - looks like some of it may be in the yellow area. Well, I've got all my limbs despite extensive treks through forests and lots of BMX-ing all around rural areas.

i live in a large european city and a couple years ago, workers found a 1, 000lb bomb on a construction site a couple of streets from mine. between that and regular findings of roman remains, urban construction project are often delayed for months

So no landmines should be used at the inter-Korean border? That's the reason the US never signed the -no landmine- treaty. The huge mass of landmines in the DMZ is probably one of the things keeping the wackos in the North from trying again.

During the high temperatures in 2018 or 2019, they found a bomb in a river near my dad's childhood town because it dried up (it wasn't a big river, it was basically a big stream. Children would regularly play there and swim in the water.

I live near Birmingham, England and Know of roughly around 6 unexploded bombs that have been found near here just since 2017, never really think much of it either which is questionable -

A danger with anti-personal mines is they are small enough that heavy rain can actually pick them up, move them and rebury them. Meaning they can essentially move to places considered safe.

5: 10 -the allies dropped 1. 35 million tons of bombs and around 10% of these never exploded: so that is 13, 500 tons of bombs that etc. etc.
.
10% of 1. 35 million is 135, 000

I-m from Croatia and slovenija, But live in canada so I go to visit in the summers. And I did not know that 1 in 5 Croatians were at risk of that. That makes me feel very safe-

Our landmines were (and will be) used in a sensible manner, not to mention that we are world famous for landmine removal. No weapon is evil, especially a defensive one.

Sorry I fail to agree, EVERY good consequence of war like jet planes and rocket would have still been invented without wars please. War has absolutely no justification.

Thinking about it, it-s crazy to think about the fact that there are still WW1 bombs, 100 year olds and survived WW2 and having tons of people just meters away of it

8: 20 - seeing the minefield signs after seeing the 84 winter Olympics ruins, as well as the bullet holes in buildings really solidified the conflict for me.

In Denmark it's not unusual for fishing vessels to catch mustard gas mines from the war. Sometimes they just leave them on the docks for others to deal with.

I read that North Korea had wooden land mines in the DMZ, they are even worse because they can-t be detected by metal detectors and had the same power

An old bomb was found in a canal in my village a few years ago (i live in England)
I live in Manchester, so it's most likely a bomb from ww2

reply

so like do these deaths count as casualties for that certain war? Like if a ww2 bomb kills someone today does it count as a ww2 victim?
reply

Germany: we have so many bombs
Laos: B-tch plz we got bombed to hell and were not even mentioned in history about it

reply

This is why I love America we are an ocean apart from most other countries so we don-t have do deal with the after effects
