In an episode of Ghost Adventures (I know what you're thinking, but this was before it became fake and staged, they went to Povelia Island in Italy, where they allegedly brought the infected victims to die. They explain that the doctors wore masks (we've all seen them but if you haven't you should look them up. they look pretty sick. In the 17th century, a famous French doctor, Charles de L'Orme, invented the plague doctor mask because he thought these masks would keep them from the disease. Inside of the beak of the masks, they had herbs, thinking it would protect them, as well as burning the herbs on the boats. They believed the plague was airborne and that burning the herbs would purify the air. Very interesting.

We are really grateful that the disease did not wipe the whole human population, otherwise we won't be alive today. As a result:
1. There wouldn't have been any world wars
2. No mobile phones invented
3. No robots
4. No space exploration
5. No video games
6. No unity in relation to UN
7. No Diversity (within cities and towns)
8.
etc.
We should respect the people of that time who did not let that to a complete human apocalypse, after going all through the extreme challenges it brought up with.

It just doesn't make sense how so many people were infected by fleas brought from place to place by stowaway rats. Is it absolutely certain that there was no human to human transmission? Why did people who cared for the sick and dying inevitably come down with the plague themselves, did the sick throw fleas at them? Was there a layer of fleas on the ground everywhere in Europe during that period? It just doesn't make sense to me that fleas were the vector that spread an illness that killed 50 million people.

So, if the black plague never happened, and people would on average have 3 children.
We would have been 33 trillion (33, 000, 000, 000, 000) people on this planet today. instead of 7 trillion -
_It would've probably been even more than that, but I just made simple calculations of re-adding the missing 42% and multiplying that by 3. _

So why did 3 quarters of Italy France Spain and England's populations get it and die but less than a quarter of Germany's population die? Not to mention Belgium, Hungary and Poland barely being affected. But Germany was a huge country right in the middle of Europe surrounded by Italy and France who were devastated by it?
reply

I think the reason why Poland and Hungary weren-t affected is probably because they have pre historic immunity because they descend from the Huns and Slavic tribes now this is just a theory I have so take it with a grain of salt but that could be the only reason why they weren-t affected
reply

Fun Fact: People actually started to blame the Jews for the Plague. Another fun fact. The reason Poland wasn't hit as badly is because ttye king ordered every merchant or person wanting to get into a city to quarantine themselves outside for two weeks to show if they had the disease

This dude literally started talking about better wages after a world wide plague. Bro take your feel the Bern hat off and look at how they thought. They probably thought God has spared them and began throwing more money in the collection plate.

i am sick of the half-truth that -pandemics will evolve our civilization because the Bourbonic Plague made Renaissance-. There are way more civilizations being broken than made by pandemics-including the ancient Athen.
reply

One interesting theory on why Europe was hit so hard by the 14th Century plague is due to the 'Witch Hunting' hysteria of the time and cats were also seen as demonic and their population was nearly wiped out.
reply

Pretty sure the -great dying- in north america from smallpox and other diseases was objectively worse by sheer number of dead and also percent of population killed, which was around 90% in some areas.
reply

Being Filipino, and seeing Philippines not infected by the plague despite having its neighboring ASEAN countries affected. I just held my breath seeing the proximity of the countries with each other

If I had a nickel for everytime a major society shaking disease started in wuhan, I-d have two nickels. Which isn-t a lot but it-s weird that it happened twice
reply

I love when white karens wears masks, got 100 shots, keep away from everyone. We should drop those people back in time and they would see what the big deal was
reply

At 6: 30 when you talk about the % of people who died in each country, France-s % isn-t at 75%, but more like 41%. Her population went from 17million to 10million
reply

Wuhan: If i got a nickel for every time global plague started in m area, i would have two nickels. Which isn't much, but it's weird it happened twice.
reply

Everybody in Europe and Asia suffering
Native Americans who haven-t even been discovered yet: Y-all hear somethin?
Native American: Nahhhh

reply

Is it just me or was Wuhan hit by the Black Death worse than any of the other areas mentioned (4 of 5 people dead. Why wasn-t that point driven home?
reply

Wrong! Is not the worse Pandemic in History, the Colombian Exchange was far worse, killing over 90% of the population in the hardest hit areas
reply

Wouldn't a mortality rate between 30 and 90 percent be just one of 60%? I never understand why they give 2 numbers. Does anyone know?
reply

Tbh, the european diseases probably changed human history way more become they literally eradicated 90% of the new world population
reply

Tanos: struggling to kill half of humanity using cosmic superpowers.
Some mongol: why not just catapult this corpse of my buddy?
