The World's Strangest Borders Part 5: Divided Islands Polish part of Usedom and its border is kinda weird place too. Tbhe border used to be a straight line right after WW2, but the city of Swinoujscie ( ex german Swinemunde ) lost its only water source because of it and Poles had to import it from the then-East Germany. Luckily, after a couple of years, the Germans did agree to transfer that water source into the polish side, thus creating a 189 acre penis-like stip bursting into the german territory. And also Usedom and its part of Swinoujscie is the only polish island and city that is reachable by river ferries. Oh, and those depart not from the actual mainland, but from an another island, Wolin: ) And since these ferries would often break or couldnt provide services due to bad weather, a lot of Swinoujscies kids would miss their classes, since their school was on the Usedom part of the city: )

Forgive my ignorance but I don't really understand why post colonial borders are an issue.
Yeah the Europeans divided the land poorly before they left, now there are different ethnic groups in every country (funny how that's an issue only if it happens outside the west.
But they aren't there anymore, what's stopping them from drawing better borders now, and more importantly how is this the Europeans' fault, that would have happen either way without them present, just like also happened literally everywhere else in the world.

Saint Martin isn't actually Dutch, hence the southern part isn't part of the European Union and doens't use the Euro.
Sint-Maarten, the Southern part of the Island, is an indepentent country within the Kingdom of The Netherlands.
So, The Netherlands and France don't share a border after all.

One island has been added to this list since the production of this video.
That would be Hans Island in the Nares Straight. Now Hans Island has a tiny land border between Canada and Greenland, which effectively is Denmark. So Denmark and Canada share a border.

Then there's Hans Island that is shared as a land border between Canada and Denmark as of 2022, who no longer have land borders with only one other country (the United States and Germany respectively.

Sint Maarten isn't part of the Netherlands, but of the Kingdom of Netherlands. That's why it's not in the EU. But I don't think there are any border crossings.
