Africa's Desert Problem: How to Stop the Sahara

Africa's Desert Problem: How to Stop the Sahara Im extremely sceptical of this scheme. We tend to greatly over simplify issues especially climate which has infinite variables. Planting trees at such a great distance and sustaining then in such a hostile environment will fail particularly given the human instability of the area. Its probably more likely natural selection will take its place and cap off the maximum population, just cant see it getting to 340m people. War is part of that natural selection process if resources are scarce. I feel like that 8 billion will only serve corrupt African politicians of which there seems to be no shortage.

The great green wall is a massive scam to funnel billions of western taxpayer money through NGOs, international impostor organisations like the UN who will plant trees for 1000$ a piece by paying some socialist expats 6 figure salaries while vacationing in africa. it will never be completed and locals don't give crap about reforestation projects and will destroy it by grazing their goats on the newly planted saplings and will continue to cut down trees for charcoal while continuing to make 7 seven children per woman.

I HATE this African continent. For just $8b we can make a huge step in fighting desertification. Only JUST $8bn! But the corruption in the continent will never allow that to happen. What a doomed continent. Tough times lie ahead. There will be no food, water or peace! Future generations are indeed doomed.

I know that you made this video over a year ago but why not divert half of the Nile River? They have found a ancient river bed that crossed north Africa and I'm not sure where it mouthed (the Atlantic or Mediterranean Sea) but why not divert some of the river back across.
reply

How about finding a container/building material like a brick, making huge sculptures, selling this container around the world, selling the sand as fertilizer to rainforrests, starting timeglass factory to make them with sahara sand. Selling Sahara to feed Afrika.
reply

Soon sahara would transform in to green rain forest and all bcoz our prophet MUHAMMAD SAW has foretold this what was once green landform will soon turn in to green landforms towards the end times look at what happening in Arabia rain s are occuring at rapid pace
reply

You are American and what do you know about Africa? All what you tell us is not true. Just visit SEKEM in Egypt where the desert has been transformed into green land for 40 years. The Sahara will disappear like all deserts have done in Israel.
reply

Hadley cell in Africa dictates the size of the sahara. Size of the Hadley cell is dictated by the size of the Congo. Better to stop deforestation on the borders of the congo rather than trying to plant trees in what is by definition poor soil
reply

Fencing off areas and not allowing animals in does not rebuild the soil. Multi-pattern grazing is what rebuilds soil. Having tons of animals on a small portion of land and moving them frequently what puts organic material back into the soil.
reply

Nop. The project is a disaster. 80% of the trees that where planted so far are dead. Not only you need to plant trees but you need to tend to them for years to come.
They have no idea of what they are doing.

reply

We know 100% that the entire continent of Africa will be uninhabitable in 80 years. The countries need to put in child limits now it's already going to be almost impossible to relocate 20% of the human population

K - I grew up always realizing that bringing a kid into this world might be a dumb idea -
so I didn't.
How come I am supposed to feel bad for those not smart enough to look at things the same way?

reply

8 Billion no way, this would be a multi trillion dollar project and maintenance. Africa already has a water problem the water for such a project would cost a huge amount and citizens would go without.
reply

Don't even think about crossing into the borders of Africa phucking with none of the land Europeans don't mean nobody well always thinking of ways to conquer people land and steal there resources
reply

Giving money to Africa is a great way to increase corruption, world hunger and overpopulation.
But other than corrupt politicians bank accounts growing, not much will be accomplished.

reply

One thing about the Great Wall/forest is that once-s it-s completed you need to guard it because people living in the region will start cutting them down for the wood to sell and cooking
reply

So. How does Africa reach 40% of world population if there's not enough food and water? That'll stop the growth right? Of the 40%already accounts for desertification?
reply

sounds like their biggest problem is over population. The government needs to educate and give free contraceptives and medical treatment to maintain population growth.
reply

so golden opportunity, beside the green wall build a river/waterway, beside those build a high speed railway, a cargo rail way, and an intercontinental highway.
reply

Africans NEVER created anything great, have nothing, but to solve the problem make 7 kids, that certain people gladly direct to Europe to replace them.
reply

What would naturally cause the desertification to stop and where would it. The whole world is not a desert, this can't just go on forever right?
reply

So ur telling me if the Sahara desert continues to expand south then someday the African continent would be nothing more but a desert continent
reply

they need to build a mountain range, get some water flowing into the area. melt water on the top of the mountains is how nature does it
reply

maybe instead of china building a canal in the balkans and nicaragua they should build a canal/river system accross the sahara?
reply

-we will build a great wall, and it will keep out all the desert, no one has been tougher on Sahara, than the African union-
reply

Idk, seems like the trees would need lots of water to throve. i dont understand how the trees will be watered
reply

8 Billion Dollars? Wow, that's pocket change on a national level. I really hope this project comes to fruition
reply

Something I've learned is that the planet doesnt give a flying f-&k about us and will do its will with due time
reply

we can kill humans. give them roughly 20 years to shut down nuclear plants, and start with purge.
