Why America's North is Emptier Than Canada's South

Why America's North is Emptier Than Canada's South the problem is with more climate change affecting places like Seattle, Washington, Vancouver, bc, and Portland, Oregon, and cities like Spokane, Washington growing along with Boise, Idaho, could Montana, and even Alberta grow more even Wyoming, if folks feel dener/ Colorado springs getting more crowded, point being I live in the Madison, wisconsin/ Rockford, Illinois corridor, and its outpacing the chicago/ Milwaukee corridor on lake Michigan in population growth by adding 70000+ people while chicago/ Milwaukee has lost 70000+ according to recent census here in the US, also according to current areas like NYC to Miami are losing population while smaller urban areas are growing, look at hobken, NJ as example the 1. 2 square miles, because t has added more folks from NYC even if NYC is probably. 12 times more land, not saying this documentary isnt fascinating just need deeper context, even cities like London, Ontario are growing for Toronto, Ontario, but these census figures have shifted, since NYC now all the 1776 population could fit into NYC just now from 1776, but now instead of 13 colonies back in 1776 the US has 50, and another thing I just learned that alot of us states, and Canada in different periods have wanted to merge together, and if Mexico decided to merge with Texas, and other states, this become more about population in North America which is close to 500 million, and would have about 93 states more than 60 if us/ Canada mergered at 60, plus if wyoming rally used it resources it might be the capital of the ev revolution here in North America, learned all from population, and other history stuff sites here on you tube, plus nations like Japan city/ states like Tokyo are allowing smaller urban areas around tokyo, plus place like Southern. Canada/ North us could grow more than even NYC in the next couple of. decades according to future projections of us/ Canada census bureaus the context of this should be spreading out as census not a places core population, mean look at the bigger picture of actual census as grow, and adjust, especially if some states lose insurance for homes, and other stuff, since when I lived in Milwaukee / Chicago urban corridor it was much bigger than it is now, not cause the vhicago/ Milwaukee. urban isnt a nice place to just that areas like madison/ Rockford corridor are seen as more appealing, plus in these urban corridors folks move around alot more than is seen, just had some friends move to Kenosha in the Milwaukee/ Chicago corridor as a midpoint place, cause it fits there current lifestyle, but unless I was aware of this, I would think Milwaukee / Chicago were shrinking not changing, this is probably why Philadelphia county merged into city, just saw how many towns used to be in Philadelphia, and now it, and its urban corridor keep growing meaning at some point it just be the deleware Valley urban area, like how Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a urban corridor is 6 x larger than the city of Pittsburgh, and has more than 90+ neighborhoods as the core city of Pittsburgh, and why Pittsburgh University, and west Virginia University in Morgantown, w Virginia has such mutual respect for each other cause these urban areas have in a way have merged even if they seem seperate, learned that Cheyenne, Wyoming is considered part of the front urban range which goes from Wyoming to New Mexico, and it we expanded the view it would stretch from Calgary in Canada to just south of the border in mexico if these area choose to merge, and might make NYC seem small as far as even population goes cause this would combine a area in 3 nations not, learned this from the NFL when Toronto, Canada almost got the Buffalo bills from nw NY state, also learned that central NY as Albany is 9x the size of the city of Albany, NY, and that the new York state government, sorry about this rant, but have learned to look deeper into populations, since dfw as dallas/ forth is larger than Milwaukee / Chicago urban corridor, but cities like witchita falls have grown from dfw, and every decade dfw seem to lose more of its population in Texas to smaller but growing urban areas around it, cause folks move, and adjust alot more than alot of us are even aware, unless. we really. look at deeper. context. of all north America than just a small part.

Fantastic video! Loved it! One point to add. around the 12: 00 mark you mention Toronto outpacing Montreal in population due to the completion of the St. Lawrence Seaway in the 1980's. what was left out was the FLQ Crisis of 1970 and the ensuing drive for Quebec separation from Canada. This slowly drove many of Canada's largest corporations, who's head offices were in Montreal, to relocate to Toronto. If there had never been the separatist issue in Canada then Montreal could very well still be the largest city in the country.

13: 30 this is not that important because winters are still to cold go grow things in the Great Lakes and most agriculture involves annual crops (rather than orchards/vineyards. And the growing season in a place like southern Minnesota is comparable to that of southern Ontario, is not warmer (and longer. Ex Orangeville, ON has a Jun-Sep average temperature of 17. 25C compared to Mankata, MN which has a growing season almost 3C warmer, and of comparable length (late May to late September, maybe early October.

I am Dane-zaa from the Peace Region. The soil is rich, and the Canadian government fraudulently stole that land from my ancestors and gave it to those settlers. I love that RealLifeLore talked about this region, but that development came at the subversive displacement of existing populations.
It is a beautiful land, and in my peoples language, called -Suunechi K'chige-, or, the place where happiness dwells.
Also, Edmonton has a great international food scene.

As an Australian who lives within 20km of the coast (central Sydney) it's baffling that such large settlements are inland. I realise inland Australia is far too dry for large settlements and any such settlements would take up the small percentage of arable land we have but you get my point. I of course know there are many large cities inland around the world but it still feels weird. Our largest inland city is Canberra at about 400k

It's weird how this guy always subtly suggests living in a concrete jungle on top of millions of other people is better than living in nature with no traffic, no stress, unimagineable views and outdoor recreation. Out in the mountains, no one cares what is going on in the coastal cities and it's beautiful.

Sounds like parts of Minnesota and North and South Dakota have similar chernozem soils and humid enough weather that the Canadian Aspen Parkland has though. And these areas of the US are not that sparsely populated. However, more towards Montana, Wyoming, even the western Dakotas, it's much less dense.

Man, you need to check your pronunciations before you publish these videos. -22: 00 it's pronounced Le-DUKE. not -duck-. There's a few of these throughout the video, such as Spokane, Sudbury, etc. Love the content, but these little things show you could be more thorough in your research!

LOL, Alberta has the SAME LIBERAL SICKNESS in our cities. our rural lands, however, have PLENTY OF GUNS! Driving 20 minutes out of ANY city in ANY direction is like a whole new world. or more accurately, the OLD WORLD all rational people want back! DIVERSITY IS CANCER!

The thumbnail is misleading. Comparing 1% of the USA population to 13% of Canada is deceptive. In real numbers, 1% of the USA is about 3. 32 million, and 13% of Canada is approximately 4. 97 million. The difference isn't as significant as the percentages suggest.

Just say all the land is controlled by posh white folk who are disconnected from reality. Everything is inflated in a certain way to only encourage an overly rich posh white man society. Everyone is fleeing the West and buying cheap on the East side.

It's not just oil. There's a big potash and uranium boom in Saskatchewan now, as well as strong immigration incentives for immigrants to come to Manitoba and Saskatchewan (which experienced a period of stagnation from the 80s to mid 00s.

Very cool video, thabks for the info!
Not to take anything away from that, wild how like half of all the Canada-related terms got wildly mispronounced: ) (Leduc, Athabasca, bitumen, Saskatchewan. Legit though, keep up the good work!

Alberta is the richest part of Canada, but the majority of the votes are in Ontario and Quebec, and they keep electing federal governments that see Alberta as a cash cow to feed Quebec to keep Quebec from separating.

The moisture in the eastern US doesn't necessary come from the East. In most of the areas between the 96th and Appalachians, the moisture comes in significant part from the south/southwest, from the Gulf of Mexico.

I did a road trip from Central alberta where I live to southern Texas to visit friends and yeah driving through Montana and Wyoming was interesting with how empty they where especially Wyoming

As a North Dakotan, I need everyone to know, that -tall- building the video shows when ND is first mentioned, is not only the tallest building in North Dakota, but also the state capitol.

I remember travelling from Montreal Canada to New York and Vermont i felt like entering a third world country. Us cities outside the biggest center are empty and under developed.

Hearing Spokane pronounced as -spoh-cane- was pretty funny. It's certainly spelled in a way that looks like that should be it, but it's actually -spoh-can-, like the metal tin.

Albertan here. This little belt of lovely climate is my home. The Chinook winds are wonderful.
Downside, all that oil wealth means our cost of living here is terrible.

-Only 1% of Americans live here but 13% of canadians do! -
1% of Americans is still like 10x more people than 13% of canadians. Canada's population is minuscule.

reply

6: 03 Finally starts explaining the reason why the US West is underpopulated (arid and mountainous. 15: 17 Finally starts explaining why the Canadian West is populated.
reply

Doing some basic demographic maths- 13% of Canadians and 1% of Americans is roughly 3. 5m people in both countries. It-s the same thing you numpty!

Me and my son think RLL is amazing, and the video was incredibly educational, although I wasn't sure if all the information was totally accurate.

Honestly, despite all the evidence shown in this well researched video, Montana is completely full. Not satire. Not a joke. Occupancy is maxed.
reply

EXCELLENT!
But, maybe you could talk a little bit slower at times?
Thank you for your efforts. May you and yours stay well and prosper.

reply

US and foreigners are behind trying to steal Canada's wealth away, and that's through trying to take over Canada's Alberta provinces.
reply

Saskatchewan which borders Montana has a population density of 1. 7 people per sq kilometer. That is much less than Montana's 2. 9
reply

the thumbnail is so misleading cause theres 8x as many americans than canadians so numbers wise its a similar population

Well, I finally have an answer why the oil industry HQ's are in Calgary when all the actual oil is closer to Edmonton.
