Elon Musk's Insane Idea to Get 1 Million People on Mars by 2050
video description
After JFK was assassinated, LBJ & Nixon were more interested Americas War Machine and really were not interested in our space program. If JFK had lived and served out his two terms our space program would have been far more advanced than it is today IMO. Very sad seeing other countries begin to surpass our space tech. Our country is truly fortunate to have a great mind like Elon Musk! Hes a National Treasure, as he will be doing many more wonderful things for our planet and humanity!

Woah, woah, woah. You're making some silly assumptions, Reliflor. You don't have to SEND one million people! If you send just 50, 000 very fertile women, and enough sperm, a million people on Mars within a generation starts to seem very possible! Of course, half of those women would have to be round-the-clock Martian-herders, and every adult on the planet would be pregnant basically all the time, but if the goal is a million people, you don't need 20, 000 Starships, it sounds more like 1, 000 would be plenty. SpaceX have already launched 171 Falcon 9s. And it's not like they're going to have 100 ships ready by the next transfer window, I'm sure production will increase exponentially. Maybe there are 10 ships in the 1st mission and 1, 500 in the 12th. And do you really think the entire colonization effort is going to done with just the Starship? Certainly after the first couple of missions there would be better ways of getting there. There's no need for a super heavy booster come 2040 if you can just take the Space Elevator to the MegaShip and depart from there.

No government pr society is crazy enough to go bankrupt to support such a ultra mega massive project to just carry and support/sustain a 1 million huge colony. At 2050, at best and when I say best I really mean it, we will talking about colonist of number at hundreds scale trying to survive under very inhabitable conditions to conduct serious research.
Note: I do not know mars atmospheres what kind of light reflective properties but mars is nearly 1. 6 farther way from sun relative to earth which will reduce the sun ray density roughly -1 / (1. 6 -1. 6) = 0. 4- which is less then half resulting very significant reduced effectiveness in solar array panel power production.

I am so buffled by bad suggestions. why TF would anyone build solar panels on Mars and put themself inevitably in risk of beeing out of power? Ever heard of BIG ASS dust storm on Mars? If anything the first goal should be nuclear powerplant to start everything up in a smaller scale. Raadiation is a huge issue on Mars as well, it has literally no magnetic field to protect against solar erruptions and so on. The goal of 1 mil peops in 2050 is a mass grave scenario, there should be a long period of few first valunteers (ehm. laboratory rats) to go through all the cycles of Mars etc.

Nobody ever talks about the real problems that will happen once there are a few hundred people on Mars. Some people will realize what a mistake they made, others will become depressed. Some people just opt for a life of crime. You're going to need security. All you need is one guy bent on sabotage. How much damage can an explosive device do on a Mars colony? Then there are problems like laziness, what if someone doesn't want to work? And what about political unrest? Racism? How do you get paid on Mars, or do you?

But why? What will people do on Mars and how will life support, healthcare, etc. work? If we're sending civilians that also means medications of all sorts, doctors/childbirth units, FOOD, water, oxygen, nvm energy/fuel/engineering requirements. Transportation aside, Earth at least is suited to support life from scratch; Mars isn't. And during our last migration you referenced, modern medicine/technology and even human rights wasn't developed yet. The standard of living is very different today.

Why would a million people wanna move to Mars and live in ultimate peril every single second being there? Just like the attempts to just reach the moon and outer space, there will undoubtedly be fatalities and vehicle losses on route to Mars. Would the costs be worth it since mankind ain't done nothing with access to the moon more than 50 years ago? I see it more of a man's achievement to go beyond the limits rather than a reality of life on a barren rock planet slowing going mad.

real danger is:
people will keep damaging the earth in the process of getting money, use the money to colonize mars (no one will take them free in this hypothetical situation. this will be many people's dream in a dystopian future to save money and flee. colonies will suck up earth's resources and if humankind continue to live, they will keep colonizing and destroying planets, like the villains in intergalactic sci-fi movies.

Even without knowing the full logistics, common sense alone suggests that a million people on Mars in about 20 years is crazy. For one, not sure there would be an economic, or other, incentive to do this, even IF technically feasible-can-t imagine there is enough of something we want on Mars to justify the massive costs, and plenty of stuff and other issues to spend money on here on Earth.

Bruh just building those 1000 rockets is impossible. Even if we assume there was infinite money and the government was willing to dump trillions into this, it assumes that multiple of these rockets can be built in a day. More realistically by 2050 we might send the first mission to the planet. But Musk clearly wants to rush things since he's already growing old.

-Elon Time- is notorious because he likes to exaggerate and overpromise, often to a ridiculous degree. But strangely and often enough, Musk's companies still manage to deliver _something_ that, while not even 1% of what was promised, is still unprecedented and remarkable. Landing even 100 people on Mars would be such an achievement.

It won't happen. Humans can't even save this planet and you are predicting they will conquer Mars in the future. Technology needs energy, meaning electricity, and we are running out of power here on Earth. Fossil fuels are not growing on trees, and humans can't seem to find the flawless green replacement for them.

We act like 100, 000 trips is crazy but semi trucks do that every day when we had horses and buggies not too long ago. Tell someone 200 years ago that we would build cities in the desert and truck in everything they need and they would laugh. Yet there are several such cities today.

100% feasible.
Send the strippers
And men will invent everything to get there.
Time travel, light travel, instant transmission, immortality, forcefields, food that sustain you for the rest of your life off one bite, and super Viagra
Just to name a few

The number of ships needed can be cut by like 30% if we set up shop on the moon first, to make landing pads and refueling stations, then send the starships from there. We could even manufacture some of the supplies needed on mars on the moon while we-re there.

Think along the lines of all one million people in the form of frozen embryos and suddenly its possible. Robotic staff as well as a small human group could start the process and maintain population growth as the supporting infrastructure is established.

How about the fact youd have to start in 2025? Thats 2 years from now. Dont see that being a likely start to sending people to mars when we havent even planned on sending a single piece of infrastructure there, let alone a human.

The thing is that while it may not be possible to send 1 million people to Mars by 2050, you also have to consider reproduction which could make the target of a million people on mars a lot more doable.

When Starship is finished there are going to be an explosion of space industry. In 2030 (if starship ever gets finished) There will be an revolution, similar to 1700s to 1800s in just a few years!

Why not colonize the moon first? It's much closer, and we can then construct launch pads there for the rockets so that its much more efficient and uses a lot less fuel.
