Why the World's Biggest Ship is an AWFUL Idea 3: 12 The ship is a ridiculous idea on the face of it given that its intent is to be an alternative to states and taxes. Such a ship would by necessity require security, maintenance, waste disposal, etc, all of which would cost the passengers loads of dough every year. Even if some special trade situation could nullify the required taxes (which I doubt) the owner and staff would then need to decide to allow permanent residents that werent contributing to the ships well being, or alternatively if all the permanent residents were just the owner and employees then the funds to maintain the ship would just be cut from the profits from the beginning essentially pre taxing the residents (also it would make the ship just a floating business not a libertarian floating utopia.

I keep thinking, ships always need maintenance. Ships break down, run into things, and get run into by other things, so where does this ship go when it needs repairs in a hurry? How many places in the entire world have the facilities to drydock and repair this monster? That carrier flightdeck up top, meant to be used by commercial airliners - what happens with heavy landings or, ghod forbid, actual crashes? That's gotta happen, sooner or later. And I shudder to think what happens if this ship gets hit by a storm in confined waters.
This idea looks GREAT on paper, or in a big budget movie, but I wouldn't want it near anywhere I live.

Imagine the temptation, by some enterprising Eastern European or Somali (or from wherever) pirates, to launch a concerted mission to lay siege upon this -Freedom Ship-, (where a bunch of very wealthy people live) and to take hostages for ransom. As far as I can tell, this ship has no military protection of any sort, as they are supposedly -Libertarian- and are therefore not affiliated with any sovereign nation. This ship is vulnerable from both air and sea, and the thing is so huge that it can be easily tracked and stalked. Libertarians have never been realistic.

Time to revive that WW2 idea of making a carrier out of floating ice, cut loose some huge chunk of ice and design a bigger boat. Just uh don't expect to visit many warm places and not sure how future proof this solution will be! It was some mad idea by Geoffrey Pyke using a mixture of wood pulp, ice and other stuff to create a suitable construction material. The whole thing crazily enough was technically not impossible if I remember everything right, just not very practical.

So the wealthy can renounce their citizenship and avoid taxes? Have fun ever getting off the ship and visiting any country, since you have no passport recognized by any nation. They'd be trapped for life, like a giant floating prison.
reply

But. if the point of the boat was to give up your citizenship to avoid taxes, that also means giving up your passport. So how would you get into any country that big ole boat would sail near/planes would fly to?

why do american's always have to relate sizes to other objects. Is the education system that bad that people don't understand units of measurement? Or is it just a testament to how retarded the imperial system is?
reply

What happens when an aircraft crashes into to landing deck? Flaming Aviation fuel would be a problem. The other issue is the marine marine growth on the bottom of the ship. That might be a problem.
reply

Its not a ship. It doesnt have propellers. Biggest one is PRELUDE FLNG Because The Build Costs to 10-13 billion dollars and idk if it has been cancelled but its the biggest.

What is with all u dorks using metric system now? If yer from Europe or something ok, otherwise you sound like a fool trying to sound smart. At least give both.

One of the big issues with this is assuming the ultra rich would want to just stay in 1 place they move around all the time at will this is an inconvenience

MSC cruises announced a 215, 000 ton displacement cruise ship. It looks like -a garage on a barge-. And I thought that was big. now this comes along!
reply

I wonder how they'll pay for maintenance. Perhaps they'll have to convince their residents to pay a small portion of their income in order to- oh wait
reply

I am certainly not a ship designer, but those sketches look a bit top heavy to me, although maybe the sheer size or other design issue counteracts that.
reply

And now every single one of the pilots has to be trained to do carrier landing. Also, this thing is just begging for a Chinese torpedo volley
reply

Maybe alphabet could fund it so they didn't have to pay taxes.
Oh wait they don't already.
For SURE someone would try and blow it up!

Frank Fontaine: they all think they-re gonna be captains of industry. But they all forget. Someone-s gotta scrub the toilets
reply

how are they gonna clean the barnicles off the bottom? they cause drag and the results is lower performance and uses more fuel.
reply

Why are you talking about this as if it's being built? It's just a CGI drawing some idiot made. Anyone can make CGI of something.
reply

Umm. your illustration shows the ship at over 1, 000 KM. So that's 1, 000 x 1, 000 = 1 million. Your site is unreliable. Bye.

A city of 50, 000 people constantly needing resupply and constantly generating a city's worth of turds. What could go wrong?
reply

I think the worst thing about this whole insane project is that the ship looks like a giant square floating box.
reply

They could just locate it and sink it while they are on it and they would find and arrest them all for tax evasion
reply

The ship will literally just scrape giant rocks and can't even get close to islands without getting stuck.

elon musk could have built 4 of these and had 4 billion left over but he decided to buy twitter instead
