How 1 Boat Caused a $400 Million an Hour Traffic Jam To clarify the confusion between Suez canal pilot vs. ship captain: Captain is like a companys CEO. He has the ultimate responsibility. The pilot is like a consultant. The captain can accept or reject his advice. Also pilot does not steer the ship. He cant know the dimensions of every ship in the world and how it will react to commands. Every captain knows his ship way better than the pilot and that why the captain has the final responsibility and thats why hes at fault, not the pilots. He failed in his leadership.

Would have been more beneficial for them to build a second canal and then put connection points in between all the way along. This would not only reduce such an occurrence from happening again but also increase the amount of ships getting through making it worth spending the money in the long run. Granted it would be very expensive to build-

I fully understand the immense pressure on the ship behind the Ever Given not to screw up. Literally the entire world was watching them.
Also, the Ever Given got stuck in the Chesapeake about 1 year after it got stuck in the Canal. Evergreen, the parent company, had a history of screwing up like thay.

oh man can I relate to this. I work in mail and the documents being prepared never end so the other day we had a firm-wide software update that broke my mailing software and was unable to get anything processed for a whole day meanwhile the pile of work just got larger and larger.

Well, good to know if our military ever needs to blockade China's trade routes, it'll cause immediate effects. Hopefully Chinese strategists paid close attention to this and made some adjustments to their plans to 'bring back' the rebellious Taiwanese.

This somehow managed to effect me too lol, this was the first week that I started dropshipping. Mainly items from China, and this is the main route from China. Got me some bad reviews on my first week of sale lmao.

Funny thing. The Suez Canal has been jammed several times since this by ships of similar size. Also, the Evergiven is still in use today. It will be a matter of time it will block the canal again.
reply

I was going through the Suez Canal during this event on an aircraft carrier. We jumped straight to the front of the line, but yes, there were TONS of ships waiting just outside of the canal.
reply

How about not letting this big -boats- passing the canal? Just go around and this will never happen again.
The two Egyptian officials on the board got 100% fired after this.

I dont think it is good that a chinese ship takes the long route throught the strait of malaka
The gawadar port in pakistan is a much better alternative

I miss the days when this is what RLL videos looked like, instead of just how countries are constantly failing or at war with each other
reply

you literally said in the video that it was a duststorm that lodged the ship. there was nothing the crew could-ve done to prevent it
reply

How did you mispronounce -Evergreen- as -ever given-. You had so many chances to notice that you're wrong how did you miss all of them?
reply

Aight boys, who's gonna train for captain, leverage some money and short some stocks before jamming a similar mf in there again?
reply

Just picturing that first boat behind the Evergiven sitting there honking its horn and yelling aggressively for 6 days
reply

-The Evergiven- - Literally says EVERGREEN in 20 metre letters on the side of the ship. Fuuuuuck sakes.
reply

They could have destroyed the ship or pushed it aside by two other large ships. Would have been way cheaper
reply

Had to come back to this is light of the whole Gaza Incident and wow! A lot is making even more sense.
reply

Draw a line how the ship is moving before entering the canal. The easiest way to show it was on purpose.
