What Made Haiti's Earthquake the Deadliest this Century? I had visited Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 2017. Although many ill effects of the earthquake still exist(mainly on the economy, I was thrilled to find out that how much the citizens were hopeful, respectful and celebrative of what is there. The population may be poor but it is the best one when it comes to celebrations and just respecting and living life. I stayed for a time of three months and was able to interact with many of the locals who were very friendly and welcoming. Fortunately, I resided in a hill top villa and had an amazing view of the city and the nearby area. On each of my trips to the nearby locations, one thing that always occured to me was how pristine and pure the natural beauty of Haiti was. You have got these beautiful peaks and crystal clear seas. It feels like being in Disneys Moanas world. I was really delighted and inspired by this experience and wish everyone there a happy life.

My mom's grandfather lived in Sichuan province, China, and he was killed when the infamous 8. 0 earthquake hit just before I was born. According to my mom's stories, he was really excited to meet me, and his death was just a month before I was born. From what we know, he was eating lunch with his wife and cat next to him, and then the earthquake struck. He had memory issues so he couldn't remember the proper protocol for large earthquakes, and when my great-grandmother jumped under the table and grabbed the cat, he thought the protocol was different. We don't know exactly what he did, but a beam of the ceiling fell on him, crushing him. Their house was nearly destroyed, and my great-grandmother and cat survived, but they died soon after. And because of all the chaos going on in China, I never got to meet them. -

Racism and injustice caused Haiti's earthquake deaths? Your narrative only contains half the story. Haiti was the very first New World colony to gain its independence from a European colonial power. This was a curse. It led to decades without any technologic advances because of severe brain drain Most Latin American nations were in deep debt at some point They also have a tradition of political corruption, but none of them are anywhere near as bad off as Haiti. Haiti has received endless amounts of foreign aid and they have nothing to show for it. Where is the racism and injustice? They did this to themselves. You make excellent videos, but stick to the facts and leave out the SJW editorializing. corruptiuon,

Unpopular opinion but the island of Haiti itself may not be the best place to be when it comes to earthquakes which happens every 200 years ironically made the country so rich in natural resources that the west cannot even comprehend. Haiti-s government and the west interruption of haitis democracy is making it difficult for the island to explore all of its natural ressources. Haiti is believed to have one of the largest oil reservations in the world possibly several times larger than Venezuela.

I visited Haiti in 2010 and I can remember being in a park and watching a building collapse to the side of me. I ran to my rental car and drove away from the city I was like 1km away and my flight out of there was 2 days after that. I did not even board a flight there I crossed the border to the city of Punta Cana and I rented a bike in the Dominican Republic for a day and I rode it around there and after 10 days I left the back home and THAT WAS THE MOST SCARY THING IN MY ENTIRE LIFE

8. 5 BILLION DOLLARS OF DAMAGE? no way in hell all those buildings cost that damn much. I was born in Haiti and have traveled there many times. I would place the price of all those badly built DEATH TRAPS at maybe 500 thousand. the level of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and science in Haiti is extremely low. most of those buildings are built on the FAITH OF CHRIST, not science. my family there are dying from a lack of knowledge.

Tl; dr: Rabbits in Australia were introduced because people in the past were dumber than today. How did the Australians kill 99% of them? By reading in the fine print of the Geneva Conventions and noticing that it only applies to humans and bioengineering a virus to kill all the rabbits. It worked and now they need to do it again.

9: 50 added cost to the homes. OKEY
10: 20 60% of the hospitals collapsed. so are hospitals built as cheaply as the private houses?
8: 55 there is a lack of government oversight. EVEN IN GOVERNMENT BUILT HOSPITALS?
The Haiti's earthquake was deadly not because of poverty. But because of rampant government corruption.

You always forget to mention haitian revolution for freedom was in 1791. From than on is all their doing. A haitian told me that many buildings colapsed because haitian people, not the french, stole the metal from concrete. Ive been in a 7. 2 earthquake and 4 buildings colapsed. Many weren't even cracked.

Hey, love your videos! This one provoked a question, with alot of the low GDP's mentioned for countries in alot of your videos and the sickening gap in wealth around the world I wonder how many or what the most expensive country is that the richest people in the world could each theoretically buy?

Incredible earthquakes brought down the continents of Atlantis and Lemuria, & I doubt they were doing nuclear testing. Now, with many countries wanting to do nuclear testing, how much damage is being done? and we must know that MASSIVE global earthquakes can be activated.

The -first country to abolish slavery- was Persia, under Cyrus the great. But not within Persia itself, as it never practiced slavery, it was already forbidden there; but in the countries he conquered. He also made the first decree of human rights, he lived some 2600 years ago.

The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami which hit Aceh in Indonesia killed 228, 000 people (I had a friend from Perth studying there who sadly died. And it was a magnitude 9. 2 earthquake. Not sure why that's not mentioned at all as it was most definitely this century!

No engineers? No architects? But I thought melanin was power. Millions and millions and millions of Haitians and no construction science at all. Is it always gonna be somebody else's fault?

Racism blamed for earthquakes now lol. Pretty bad when geology goes woke. If an earthquake kills a ton of people in rural alabama will it be racism if a ton of rednecks die? Probably not

-RealLifeLore How do you know that it was the UN peacekeepers that introduced Cholera to the Haitian river? And not as a result of poor infrastructure that was damaged by the earthquake.
reply

As i continue to watch and find answers, at mark 8: 48 i finally found it. theres no way one would survive a strong quake on that kind of terrain with such kind of infrastructure.

Haiti has been going through dictators and corrupt governments since there revolution, as most countries do after revolution. You can't bend the truth THAT much to fit your agenda.
reply

I feel like most of us just cannot grasp how awful this earthquake was for Haiti. I mean, looking at all that damage PLUS a cholera epidemic. how do you recover from that?

They also insisted only locals work on the rebuilding, which significantly slowed down everything, rather than paying experienced foreign workers with the aid money.

Thank you for shining light on the Chinese earthquakes. Peope don-t realize that China has the most devastating earthquakes ever. Not Japan. Not India, not Chile

Man, France was the real villain here, enslaved, then intimidated into paying protection money. Even the American occupation is a footnote compared to that.
