haha they are not leaving diego garcia and expect to see more of these 'odd' happenings from multiple nations world wide, hence the need to take and regain land by the west in the next decades or at least head off attempts, because the institutions who made those rules against GB and USA were obviously not interested in being constrained by GB and USA military extensiveness. Its not about hyper-hypocriticalness either because lets face it, when push comes to shove all these other nations morals and ethics will be out the window. So this situation is apt - and what I expect, if not demand, from US and GB, if not proud, we can all stand up to the need in the world to protect ourselves. And we are talking about a people who live in the middle of the ocean - any contact with GB and USA is only going to dramatically improve their lives. Otherwise the option would be - and we all know it - for another nation(s) not as Good as GB and USA or the Aussies and Canada to overtake the island and make their lives a lot worse.
Also, this is why having set up many international institutions in their time these country's are pulling out of them because its obvious many agreements are not worth the paper they are written on anywhere, at any time, thus they could/will maybe collapse trade outside their auspices and the order collapse outside them too, before too long; so as you will see and already know there always needs to be something backing it. Wonder what that could be. Its probably also a reason why all those core culturally-linked nations with USA are essentially integrating and combining; and would of if not for ww1 and 2 and the morphing of the EU (to eventually integrate among themselves too one supposes as recent moves indicate. I don't see any other nations willingly integrating or combining, or having a culture that goes great anywhere such as with the anglosphere ones and those enabled by them (i. e EU. Nah. I'd suggest instead to be instrumental as to these things, rather than hinder. Depends where you sit and who you are. And what you want to do, hence the circle of human experience, you can't enter it or escape it and morals and ethics will always be fluid, but the Integrated Military can certain stop it.
Why, because all those Anglo's they see another place they have become under the pump they want to protect it - so USA needs to be protected according to them, from Eurasia and EU and anything else, thus GB needs protection and to be separated from EU when it becomes apparent, thus Aussies and Canada, and also so they can fortify and keep up the unbroken line for their own internal trade and communication. Then you have them co-joint and independent, anyway, example aussies and nz, GB/france though not Anglo, or GB nordic, or GB-Aussies, canada/usa, uk-usa, usa-aus, they are all integrated somewhat anyway, and GB itself is an integration/union. and the wider commonwealth, though not all are or all would want to be core lands, some obviously are, and this is why at its greatest extent D-Garcia is one of those interesting situations.

Hearing you say how the complain about the US being in Okinawa really irritates me. Let's gtfo of there. I don't think your source for 4 or 5% gdp from the us is right either. Housing is more sure but they have the advantage of being protected by the most powerful military and pay nothing for they. When they have to pay billions to defend themselves, they'll beg for us to come back.
I think many of these nations should pay us, not all as they're doing us a favor allowing us to have a base in a strategic location. But we have aircraft carrier so we don't need so many bases. Plus drones don't need large logistical support. We really need to cut back on spending or use that money for the people. Cheaper healthcare, advanced manufacturing plants for good jobs, infrastructure and a myriad of projects to help people especially for homelessness and the opioid crisis. I don't see why we have to spend so much in the military, the budget has gotten so insane

This entire video is incredibly misleading when you consider how many bases shown are just a few dozen soldiers temporarily stationed on a domestic base that already exists and is ran by the host country.
You also mention 170, 000 troops deployed all over the world when more than half of that is just our obligation to Europe where our largest alliance is and where a war is being fought on our allies borders.
I know you don't have a particular narrative you are trying to create, but this video is absolutely going to get taken by the pacifists and isolationists as proof of an American empire when really a majority of what we do is forward deploy troops to allies that actually want us there.

I heard an interesting point: It's cheaper to have US troops in foreign bases than to have them in bases in the US. Usually foreign countries provide part of the support costs (such as janitors, etc) - and support costs in general are cheaper in foreign countries (lower wages.
Having the US soldiers based with foreign countries gives an opoortunity for soldiers to train with, build relationships, and learn how to work with foreign militaries - which makes them more effective in a potential future conflict.
And frankly, the US soldiers are more useful deployed out there since they are closer to where the potential action is. Canada's not going to invade Maine.

Thanks again on an important and well-produced video. What RLL doesn't specifically mention, on Diego Garcia is it's more about India and Pakistan. Diego Garcia is conveniently located, on what's still the potentially most dangerous hotspot by two nuclear countries. Great Britain, has its colonial role in this as well. It would be nice, if the obvious power grab, done out of perceived necessity, around the time of Vietnam, could be done to return at least a large part of the island, to the native inhabitants. However, here in the US, it's gotten almost no media attention.

There is nothing more American than air dropping a fast food burger joint into the middle of a combat zone.
I want you to really think about this: here you are, some barely paid government intelligence analyst looking through American social media to learn about the war in your country. You've discredited retreats, bombings, press gangs, and gulags. But now 5-star general Ronald McDonald has a playpen on base 5 miles outside your capitol and the drive-thru staff are handing out 36-pack Crayola MREs complimentary to anyone in a BDU.

Yeah, im 15: 27 in to this and i can tell you 2 things.
A. The pentagon def knows how many bases we have.
B. Our grandfathers, and great grandfathers, bailed the world out twice, with their lives. We will not do that again. Europe, you, and your comment section have forgotten that lesson.
Are we perfect No we are not. Is it expensive Yes, it is.
. is the world safer that the US is the US Yes, it is.
Diplonatic immunity is a necessary evil. You failed to mention all the diplomatic crimes on our soil.

I'm confused. Why don't we have more bases in Algeria Libya and Egypt
Wouldn't it be a great demonstration of our incredible super poweryness if we could make water flow in the Sahara
And I thought India was our ally
Brazil and Argentina need some more Monroe Doctrining it looks like
If Sweden's in NATO now doesn't that mean we get more bases
Why don't we have a base in North Vietnam to celebrate unification
Offhand it looks like we're 20 bases short. Someone should fix that.

It is no surprise that your military personnel don't command respect in your country. Effectively they have fought no war to protect the American citizens. They are being used to invade, destabilize and destroy other nations. Hence they are not respected outside your country either. Once the dedollarisation happens there will be no money and the so-called empire will crumble sooner than a house of cards.

was talking to afew yanks on twitter about these bases, and i love how they all are trying to prove to me that america has an iron grip on these countries. forcing them to have their bases there. basically all these countries with US bases are just vassal states. wanted to make a counter argument but its twitter. cant reason with those arm chair people

You can really see where all the 750 billion dollars every year go to with so many internal issues in the US it is just so odd to me.
With the money they’d save by pulling those 170k back home and ending those over seas bases they’d probably solve a lot of issues at home. I just wonder what do they think happens if they don’t have them.

I was in korea when those two girls got hit. That was tragic. Those roads are tight and small, im suprised it hasent happened more. Every Joe from the 2nd infantry division stationed there donated 2 dollars to the families. A whole summer of protests too.
The old koreans loved us. The young ones. not so much.

I live about 5 miles from Lakenheath and 10 miles from Mildenhall, its pronounced Lake-en- heath not lack-en-heath that sounds so weird. The SR-71 Blackbird was based at Mildenhall, I used to watch it take off from the end of the runway, there's mound you can stand on.

It's refreshing to hear that US soldiers don't get punished no matter what also in more powerful countries. I thought that the US soldier that killed a local here via drunk driving got away without a punishment because of my country's weak diplomatic team.

America is so often portrayed by the Left as a warmongering nation. But it is an absolute fact that the vast majority of American conflicts have been with provocative dictatorships. Thank God that a democracy is the world's most powerful country.
