What If Earth Started Spinning Twice as Fast Right Now?

What If Earth Started Spinning Twice as Fast Right Now? The elevations mentioned regarding countries being below water from 100m in extra water is wildly off. Kenya for instance averages 2500 feet above sea level and its capital, Nairobi is 5500 feet above sea level. The average elevation of Colombia is nearly 2000 feet. Ecuador is a very mountainous nation. It averages over 1100 meters in elevation and its capital, Quito is one of the highest in the world at nearly 10000 feet. Venezuela, a relatively lower than average country still averages 450 meters above sea level. So yes, some places near coasts may go under, but nothing close to what is shown in the video with huge portions of South America and Africa going under.

This video does not answer all the questions! For example, by admitting that with the earth turning twice as fast, the water of the oceans would be concentrated at the equator because of the centrifugal force by submerging a part of the equatorial lands and the southern hemisphere, it would be necessary to admit that the sea level would DECREASE near the poles. But then the proportion of land area would increase? and what would be the climatic consequences? Would the air become drier? Logically, these questions should be answered!

As for only getting 4 hours of sleep, humans are already actually supposed to be sleeping in periods of 4 hours throughout the day. I'm lucky enough to a part of the three percent of the population that legit only needs 3 to 4 hours of sleep. I'm up everyday regardless of what I have planned before the military even wakes up, lol.

What if i was superman? What if i drank klingon blood wine? What if i was an alien. What if i was a turtle. This story is assinine as the all what ifs. The commentor can't even research the pronunciation of the words he uses.
It is not centra fugal. It is cen tri fa gal.

If the water would bulge higher near the equator making that all underwater areas. It also means that south and north areas will gain more land, Southamerica would very likely get connected by land with Antarctica, Northamerica will likely get connected by land with Asia.

Gotta bring out my nerdometer:
1. Centripetal force is a real force as you mentioned early in the video.
2. Centrifugal force is a false force we use to describe the effects of inertia on an object in motion.
My 1968 physics teacher is smiling I'm sure.

Biggest thing that wasn't mentioned was does the atmosphere spin up with us?
If not, then everyone and everything anywhere near the equator is immediately obliterated by the sudden 1600km/hr winds that will flatten absolutely everything.

reply

Question: if the Earth-s rotation suddenly sped up, wouldn't the g-forces from the initial acceleration flatten everything? Once the Earth-s rotation stabilized then humans, if any exist, would be able to move around, etc.

I wish we could've seen the effects in the north/south of that sea level change, because losing things like the North Sea and Hudson Bay would probably be a big deal. Or Asia and Alaska being one land-mass again.

Your on the right track for earth become a shape of a torus but sadly earth needs to spin 3X faster I think? IDK to stop earth turning into a sphere cause gravity will automatically pulls inwards I think?
reply

It'll be interesting to find out what happens should the Earth ever spin just half as fast as it presently does. For starters days would be 48, not 24, hours long, and that may be good.
reply

If the Earth spun at a thousand miles per hour West to East. How can a plane land on a runway coming from north to south? That's not good for the to airplane.
reply

Super hurricanes, continent wide destruction, mass die off of plants and animals. oh also our satellites would get kinda screwed up.
Weird climax.

I would think global cooling would take place with fewer hours to heat any given area. I also expect it would create an endless ice age eventually
reply

Since you brought it up that the earth is slowing down and not speeding up. What would the consequent be if it slowed down?
reply

If earth spun 2x as fast and equator gets flooded with rain and hurricanes:
Mrbeast: s I spent 50 hours at the equator

reply

Why would a year be twice as long? The rotation of earth on its axis has nothing to do with the length of a year.
reply

If you notice the countries underwater are the ones that are in the equatorial area and my country is one of them.
