This video skips right over the few months where a third of the world's population starves from the sudden lack of food, world war three begins everywhere else and then humans start eating one another because we can't get enough of the essential proteins from plants currently for just the small % of humans that are vegan, let alone the 5 billion people still alive 2 months after all meat disappears. While humanity waits for the farm industry to prepare new land and plant new crops and for those crops to grow, the wealthy buy up all the best plant foods and every community that can't farm enough for itself has to go to war with neighboring communities to get what they need to survive until the farm industry can make up for the nutrient dense meat missing from the market.
Now this video would work if it were to phase out meat over a couple years allowing other industries to plant enough food to eat and if genetically engineered foods can be created that have everything a human needs. But as is, you're talking about trading off about 2/3rds of humanity in famine and war before you get to your utopian society and then on year 5 when the Avengers get the infinity stones and snap back all the animals, you have a whole new apocalypse on your hands.

This feels like a very superficial examination of only one aspect of livestock farms. Animals are used for a lot more than just food, and this completely glosses over everything else. Here is a sample: violins, footballs, drums, antifreeze, surgical sutures, organs for transplant, marshmallows, wax paper, margarine, butter, crayons, paint, rubber, lubricants, candles, soap, cosmetics, shampoo, jello, leather, etc. There are also medicines made from livestock, such as insulin. There are a lot of industries that would grind to a halt or would see prices skyrocket as their supplies were normally in abundance as a byproduct of our food production.
Some might argue that we wouldn't lose dairy milk, but the scenario said all animals that were eaten get teleported to another planet, and dairy cows to get slaughtered for their beef when their milk production declines, so they're all gone to another planet. Also, in order for the greenhouse gases part of their scenario to work, the animals can't be left here alive, so we're probably also losing all sheep so no more wool.

Surely demand for plant based oils would soar as there are such things as essential fats. The cattle pastures put back to arable would release carbon currently locked. Some of the pressure on rain forests comes from arable production such as palm oil plantations. Also nobody talks about wild ruminants and their contribution to CO2 emissions. These would inevitably increase. Without sufficient large animal predation there would need to be culling to manage the rewilded habitats and surely someone might suggest that it would be better to eat the deer than leave it to rot. People would still get TB in the UK from the increased and legally protected badger population and every now and then a virological institute might decide to gather respiratory pathogens from wild species such as bats. That might not work out well for the human population of the earth.

Farm animals wont be able to survive the world that no longer need them. Cheetahs wont be killed for getting close to food but now herbivores will be and instead of being used as food, they will be burnt to ash because potential diseases cause by rot. We are omnivores, that is an advantage to survive the world, just because the world is so much more comfortable that you have to give up such advantage? Agriculture regardless of the product will be disruptive to the environment, so limit our source of food will only increase our problems.

I hate this kind of what if overnight everything changed scenarios because they are unrealistic and also they completely miss the point. Any major change to civilization done overnight would be highly disruptive, but also, other than wars, not a lot of major changes happen overnight. The real question is whether transitioning toward a meatless or a low meat civilization would be beneficial in general and the response to that is a resounding yes. That's the general direction we should be moving toward.

Go vegetarian for the planet, go vegan for the animals. I m here early enough that the meat eaters aren t here yet to say du durrr rodents and insects are still killed during the vegan diet yeah, no one ever says vegan is perfect-perfect. But as diets go it s as perfect as it gets. ESPECIALLY in comparison to animal agriculture. Vegan compared to nothing killed ever, yeah it looks bad. Vegan compared to animal product diet incomparably better by every measure.

Very simple but all bias assumptions. What happens to humans on a process vegan diet. they are worst of. What happened to Ireland during their potatoes feasting because they were forced to. Lower health outcomes. Japanese who use to be short now are taller because they eat meat. Show them what happens when cats on a vegetarian and cat diet? 1st gen was fine. 2nd and 3rd Gen had skull and nerve development issues. The vegan agenda

They do not contain all essential nutrients like all necessary omega 3 fatty acids or vitamin b12 (only one algae contains it and it would have to be especially harvested for that purpose. If vegan diet is not correctly balanced then the bad ratio of omega 3/6 lack of short chained sat fatty acids and improper food preparations like frying will still increase cardiovascular diseases +lack of supplementation of vit b12/d3

Yeah no we would still destroy natural habitats to plant more crops and kill any and all animals that try to eat our food.
We would start using the ocean to harvest more algae instead and we would continue to mess with the ecosystem with tourism and oil drilling.
Most of the destruction of rainforest is to grow other crops.

if the world went vegan, you would have mass starvation, the ecology wouldn't be able to cope with it. Most vegan alternatives are far more costly towards the environment.
So lets stop being fascist, anti science about this, humans eat meat, they always have, they always will, nothing to be ashamed about, It's NATURAL

A better question would be what would happen if everyone stopped eating sugar and carbohydrates? The answer is that billions of people would be much healthier, obesity and type 2 diabetes would disappear, and millions of pharmaceutical employees, junk food employees, and health care employees would be out of a job.

Coming from a mainly vegetarian country that is India, most of our population suffers from protein, iron and vitamin B12 deficiency.
Large scale corporations polluting the environment and using unethical means to attain capital should be held accountable, instead of guilt shaming people who eat meat.

I remember something like this in my Biology class and that to replace the protein that we now lacked, we would have to eat legumes but it must be in a balanced manner because eating too much legumes can cause Leaky Gut but I guess given enough time, we might evolve to get pass that issue naturally.

How about you eat your veggies and I eat whatever I want. You make wild claims like using grazing pasture for growing your veggies. Here's the problem with that. That soil isn't great for your veggie utopia. Guess what it would need? Tons and tons of petroleum-based fertilizer and pesticides.

Wouldn't people still hunt and eat other animals because people still love meat? I love meat and I eat it in moderation I can't imagine a world without any meat. I'm sure people would hunt other animals now that farm animals are gone and that would pose a risk to those animals populations.

I like how it explores specific cases together with the overall population. Truth is, sure a few people may depend on some type of animal product to survive, but that is the tiniest part of humans, everyone else has the choice, and keep choosing pleasure over sustainability. Great video

No omega 3 from fish, more pesticides from more vegetable crops, vegetable monocultures are quite harmful, red meat heart disease is a myth. Plant based food require more sugar to compensate for lack of animal fats. I love cows let them roam and share the green grass we cannot turn into

Well, if that indeed was about to happen, i have a curious question. What would happen to the reservoirs of natural water? I mean 8 Billion people on Earth need to consume vegetables and fruits, so i assume increasing the use of drinking water to grow crops is less of a burden?

if you dont eat meat how will you get b12? plus meat is the main protein source for humans which is necessary for development and muscle. also, this emissions number is massively inflated because these arent emissions produced by the cattle but rather the machinery transport etc

We will first die of hunger and who remains will live whole live without access to important nutrition and proteins. I have nothing against people who are vegans and vegetarians, but you can't fix this issue with a magic stick. I would eat insects and larvae if necessary.
