Sitting around a campfire, you can feel its heat, smell the woody smoke, and hear it crackle. If you get too close, it burns your eyes and stings your nostrils. You could stare at the bright flames forever as they twist and flicker in endless incarnations But what exactly are you looking at? Elizabeth Cox illuminates the science behind fire. e. e why dont schools make us curious about learning stuff instead of shoving all this down our throats. I learned more about this, with the video and seeking answers from my curiosity, than I did last year teacher shoving info and nothing really sticked.
Shoving knowledge = people hate learning/school
Curiosity = people want to learn more

I asked this in chemistry class once and the teacher basically ignored the question. I think fire does seem like a 'thing' because it effects so many of our senses - it also can almost seem 'alive', e. g. it moves, eats, grows, reproduces and dies.

Plasma does exist in plasma. Blue is the color of hydrocarbons in the plasma state (see propane/methane flame, not because of its temperature. Yellow/Orange color is the incandescence of not fully combusted solids/gases.

So you say it's not a gas but then state that CO2 and H2O vapor are released. Maybe the entirety of a flame is not just gasses but gas is still apart of what creates the flame? Can you have a flame without gasses?
reply

Fire is heat and light energy!
Energy cannot be destroyed
It transforms from one form to another
The energy trapped in the wood is transferred to heat and light energy

If fire isn't a matter then how come it is affected by gravity?
As far as I know. Gravity effects matter. Then how fire is effected by gravity?

So after browsing the comments section of this video I am left wondering, did anyone email this to Ariel or link it to her facebook page?

Than what is the molecule structure of fire. I asked my teacher this before and she laughed at my face and made fun of me. Lol
