In 1987, thousands of people gathered in Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage. But what started out as a celebration led to a worldwide health crisis: more than 2, 000 cases of meningitis broke out, spreading across Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world. How did it spread so quickly and what makes meningitis so dangerous? Melvin Sanicas examines how the disease affects our bodies. Lesson by Melvin Sanicas, directed by CUB Animation Studio

In 1980 I got meningitis from a boy who bit me at a Air force Base daycare they didn't wash the bite wound out. I was found on the floor in a fetal position foaming at the mouth and already in rigamortis. I was dead and my mom took me to the ER. They revived me and then didn't know what sickness I had. My mom was so mad with the incompetent doctors. All I remember was going in and out of consciousness and my mother screaming at the doctors to hurry up and find out what was wrong with me. I was wondering why I had foam on my mouth too. Well that was so long ago and the only thing that was a long lasting problem from it was I'm tone deaf. I can't hear low tones. I always say I can't hear men. Lol. I hope nobody else gets this horrible sickness.

I had meningitis, matter of fact i had it the first week of being born. The doctors said at first i was just mildly sick but my mother didnt believe them so my mom called the doctors saying that i was breathing weirdly, so the doctor on the phone told my mom to 'come there ASAP' and to put it simply, i had a very high fatality rate. So i was there for about 2 weeks with a doctor or my mother beside me 24/7 until i was good. And they said that there was a high probability that i was gonna have some kind of a disability, but im fine now!

I once went to a theatre camp with someone who had anti-vaxx parents. We were good friends but then she decided to drink my water (which she knew was mine) and even poured her own drink in. I drank it all before I finally realized that there was way more ice cubes than before. The camp did absolutely nothing and I didnt know if I was safe because I havent gotten the vaccine yet (because i wasnt old enough for the free shot, I am not anti vax.

When I was a kid, all the children in my household (we had another family living with us at the time) got meningitis. For some reason I had bacterial while the other kids had viral. Doesn't make much sense. My dad's brother died of meningitis after struggling his whole life with herpes that got into his brain

I got all my shots besides the flu but for some reason there is a shot that you can get after you get meningitis but you cant get it unless youre like 60 and over but my father has had it twice now and one he was mis diagnosed when I was a baby where he forgot three days of his life and almost died.

Just got out of the hospital for this. The confusion part is the scariest part of all the symptoms obviously right below death. The spinal taps were fun as well lol.

If you suspect meningitis, seek help immediately. Do not worry about catching COVID at the emergency room: COVID CAN kill you. Meningitis WILL kill you.
