This extraordinarily moving documentary tells the story of Holocaust survivor, Henia Bryer, in her own words. Born into a middle-class Jewish family, Henia lost her father, brother and sister during the German occupation. She survived four concentration camps (including Auschwitz) and the horror of the Death March. Henia went on to bear witness to the creation of Israel in 1948 before making a new life for herself in South Africa. Created with the intimacy of a home movie by Henias niece Lisa Bryer, producer of many films including The Last King of Scotland, it was made so her grandchildren could see her story in her own words. This is a gripping monologue. A truly remarkable story that the BBC cleared their schedules to broadcast on Holocaust Day

I have a dissabled son who reminds me of her brother. He is very intelligent but he just can't walk and hearing her story of him being killed was like feeling it for myself. I will never understand how people can be so moved to hate that even the least capable anc innocent in society can be killed by them. These dissabled kids show so much love and compassion and are so grateful for all that you do for them.

I've always felt sad for the jews back then, and I'm pretty sure they went to a better place. Because this world is so cruel and so bad, look at their sons and grand sons now who went to Palestine as refugees and now they are occupying the land of the people who welcomed them and gave them a shelter, they are not different from germans. this world is really cruel. RIP to all the innocent jews and Palestinians.

When learning about this, I often wondered how could people let this happen. Then I started to wonder, are people 50 years from today going to look back at us and say how did those people let abortions happen.
A black person who wrote black lives matter on the street in paint was not arrested, and a white person who wrote black pre-born lives matter in chalk on the sidewalk was arrested.

No human conscience can accept what was done to the innocent Jewish people by the Nazis, or what is being done to the Palestinian people today by the zionists. I would love to watch a similar documentary about the suffering of the Palestinian people. All humans should be treated with respect and dignity, no exceptions, or else its racism, ethnicism, call it what you want.

I wish I could hug this amazing lady. I tried to think of what I'd do if it were me but I just can't imagine enough the hardships that they went through during that terrible time in history. Very strong and brave even just talking about it. My heart goes out to all those who have suffered during the second world war.

The picture at 1: 18 of her little sister has affected me in a very strange way, almost haunting.
I've watched this at least 10 times. As a Holocaust Researcher, I have tried everything I know to find the name on her little sister, it's not mentioned so, if anyone know please contact me.

I would have been terrified to fight on the front lines but that's where I would have probably died as a German. I just couldn't be a witness to this let alone a participant. Just to see young girls wearing Misfit clothes and crying would be too much

My ex mother-in-law was in France when the Nazis invaded. She also did not talk about what she had seen. She said they had to make bread out of sawdust, and the best gift she ever got was an orange. I cannot imagine living through such horrible circumstances.

Instead of just teaching children about this in school, we should be telling them the survivors stories. When we went over this section is history it was just a section in the book. It doesn't sink in what actually happened until you hear survivors stories.

how ironic that the NAZIS hated the jews so much and they almost annihilated most of the jews, then they wanted to produce a PURE ARYAN RACE but they were getting the blood of those poor jews to be used by their soldiers who are wounded in battle.

So these people are subhuman but their blood is still good enough for blood transfusions? Yeah. These EVIL people know they are wrong and full of it. They just hate to hate to hate in order to HATE.

Watching the entire documentary and then she mentioned Bloemfontein (South Africa) where I'm currently staying: -) I really did not know any holocaust survivors were ever here after the war.
