Ernest Shackleton - In 1914, after the sinking of his ship The Endurance, this hero saved his entire crew from a certain death. 100 years later our expedition sets out to explore the sub-Antarctic islands of Elephant, South Georgia and the South Sandwich by boat, ski and pulka

strange, and arguably unfair and inaccurate portrayal of history wherein Shakleton gets all the credit and not even a passing reference to Frank Worsley - the Captain of The Endurance, without whom, arguably, Shakleton and all his men would have perished. There is no way they could have gone for help without him as Shakleton himself admitted he knew nothing about small vessels and almost had the rescuers killed by insisting the James Caird be laden with ballast, against Frank Worsley's advice. All too reminiscent of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, In Colonial times, - understandable that a Brit, noy a sherpa or a kiwi, get all the accolades and praise - one wd think a mdern retelling wd have a diff perspective and give credit where it is due. - In fact, before I fell prey to 'Political Correctness, - Sorry! Now, I categorically state that Shakleton and all his crew would most definitely not have survived had it not been for their ship's captain - FRANK WORSLEY!

This is a ridiculously pointless pleasure cruise inspired by 28 men that suffered a level of discomfort most humans will never know - imagine winter camping with canvas gear for 18 months. Travelling in the artic, in the ocean, in a lifeboat. These rich adventurers have every color North Face jacket there is. Wow, they did it! With all that gear and a fancy ship to sleep in every night. lets do Shackletons route in luxury! Nail polish: retracing Shakeltons route, dont forget nail polish! If theres been women on the original expedition, I doubt theyd have made it

I find the title of this film to be very misleading. While the film does follow along part of the route that was taken by Shackleton and his men and touch on some of what they went through, the majority of it seems like an little adventure and science exploration without much focus on the background and challenges the men faced. It also largely just glosses over the year+ the men spent on the ice before reaching Elephant Island.

what an embarrassing pile of junk this is. I totally forgot Shackleton and crew snowboarding down south Georgia Island. clearly only used Shackleton's name to try get funding, they had no real interest in recreating Shackleton's journey or even retracing his steps. this was awful and not what i was hoping/ expecting

I read the book about this expedition and I could not set it down. Have reread it several times since. A truly amazing story and a truly amazing man. Very sad that he died on South Georgia Island preparing for another journey to the Antarctic at the young age of 49. His final resting place is on this island.

I thought this was going to be a documentary showing the actual crew excedra sure, I understand technology was different however, this seemed to focus on the crew of today discussing the entire trip and stepping in past tense steps. Thank you but I didn't like this its focus more n you. Happy New year.

lmao why did that random woman go snowboarding in the middle of the expedition? that is not with the spirit of the trip at all. just kinda seemed. selfish. nobody cares about how well your skiing went. we want to hear about shackleton. and the useless climate discussions. what a pointless trip.

I don't see how somebody who was warned by, if I'm right, Danes to wait make decision on his own set sails and to risk lives of whole crew can be hero. I mean, if I put someone in fatal danger and then save him am I hero? For me true hero in whole that expedition was captain Worsley.

Truthfully it has been documented that Shackleton made many, many errors in judgement and had it not been for his captains foresight as well as his remarkable navigation skills the entire crew would have been lost. Frank Worsley was his name, without him this story would be a mystery.
reply

Are you sure all I hear is Shackleton did this and Shackleton did that while the only thing I can save the confidence Shackleton really did was deliver good pep talk after he f something up the name you need to be crediting begins with Frank and he's the captain of the ship
reply

Shackeleton was no hero. He was a stubborn man that knew everything because he was born into a life of privilege. His misadventure happens every day when those in power make decisions based on their limited backgrounds. Unfortunately there seems to be no way out.

If its difficult now with all this high tech equipment. can you imagine what it was like back then. more than a 100 years ago. when all they had was guts and bravery. back when men were men. hats off to those very brave men.
reply

Turned this off after ten minutes since there was no mention of Shackleton in that time. Just finished the book, Endurance, and wanted to put some maps and faces on the story, not listen to these guys' story.
reply

This was lame. A bunch of rich people hire a scientist and some soldiers then get on a boat and float around the Antarctic with all the comforts of home. They would not have survived the real ordeal.
reply

What a farce. They could just have placed their scientific equipment in place and made a home video of it, because it resembles NOTHING of a dire situation Shackleton and his men were in.
reply

. saved his entire crew from certain death. Not really. He saved them from a situation that was extremely likely to be fatal. If it was certain death, they certainly would have died there.

None of the polar expeditions should have been done until we could safely fly to the poles, which is how Amudsen became the 1st man we can prove reached N. Pole using a blimp in 1926.
reply

Another book is Shackleton: the Forgotten Expedition The Voyage of the Nimrod where they used sturdy Manchurian ponies instead of sled dogs to cross the ice and traverse the mainland.

50: 14 Fall off the edge of the earth? This statement is heresy and an attack on science, education, explorers, the 1914 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition and Sir Ernest Shackleton.
reply

I totally don't think Shackleton mission was a failure, he and his brave men lead the way for further expedition to the south pole. To me he was a true leader and a True Legend!
