Can neither confirm or deny that, but John Wayne was an asshole and a bigot and the song is dope. Unfortunately, he wasn't as cool as the mythological characters he played on screen. I was real bummed to learn that as a jit cause I used to watch a lotta his shit back in the day when I'd stay in from school. Then I learned that everything he represented was fantastical reactionary fiction and was even more bummed. But ya know what they say: Never learn anything about your hero's cause people suck. And thus a street kid in the belly of the beast during some very rough times had yet another hope crushed.

This sounds more like American propaganda. Stalin reportedly also liked to watch Westerns specifically- John Wayne films. I mean a guy that says No God damn commie gonna frighten me probably gave the guys propagating the Red Scare such a huge erection how could you not make him your poster boy. Throw in the story about John Wayne and his stuntman helping FBI agents take down kgb and add some mythology to that legend. BUT as Kruschev said, Stalin was pretty batshit crazy too near then end so yea I could see it being ordered.
