What It Was Like To Live At Versailles

During its heyday from 1682 to 1789, Versailles wasnt just a palace - it was the center of Frances royal world. French royals, nobles, and state officials lived together in the sprawling palace complex. But despite the regal setting, everyday life for courtiers at Versailles was often stressful, regimented, and surprisingly unsanitary

At Versailles there were no children other than those of the Royal family. Nobles had to lodge their children in the village of Versailles or keep them home at their domains. The various offices awarded to the nobles were shared by quarter, so that four times as many nobles could have posts. So even if you were the carrier of the royal bedpan it was only 3 months a year. In his younger days Louis likes to hunt, so that courtiers who could ride and shoot had an advantage.

In several videos about Versailles you state that cats are everywhere, both feral and domesticated. You even say their dead bodies lined roadways and added to the stench. Then here you state they arent allowed at all. I wasnt there, so I dont know which is accurate, but if youre going to do history videos, maybe you should. Ive noticed this sort of contradictory information on multiple topics, so maybe get that worked out.

Confused the last video you did on the hygiene there, you stated that there were cats all over the place. So many cats that droppings were everywhere and dead cats lined the roads because there were so many. In this one you said wild animals where roaming around and that there were no cats there. Can you clear that up for me?

It would be kind of cool to work in Buckingham Palace but Id want a day off that I can leave off grounds when I want to. That would be a hell of a resume builder. I work for the Queen of England. Id be somewhat fearful to see her though. Id never speak even if she spoke to me. Id play dead as long as possible

Well i will live in the big room with privacy and have my own bowl to poop in and I my room shall be pink and or live in other trianons and have long strolls and wear big poufy dresses and towering heights hair styles and party

It is no wonder the peasants wanted to kill them. Notice our 'court' system came from the royal courts. That is why the rich (our current royalty) always get a free pass at jail time. unless they want to martyr you, i. e. GMax

Lol, Louis was a troll, he turned the nobles into docile potatoes by turning them into dignified servants all in the name of Luxury, preventing them from rebelling. Unfortunately, it turned out very bad for the French.

I've been to the Versailles in Paris many times as part of my travel. I've dressed in 17th century outfits. Tied my hair i a pony tail, and danced the night away in the most beautiful ball room in the world.

Just another royal to add to the pile of evidence to prove monacharies were/are a f'ing joke. One could probably count the number of history's truly respectable royals on both hands. Great video though

In one of your other clips hygiene in versailles its stated, cats where everywhere in versailles and their dead bodies even on the roads. Here you say cats were not welcome.

Looking at this I think how often we forget what a huge privilege running water and plumbing is. It is easy to forget how far humanity has come. Saving lives as well as noses!

Much is made of smells, but this was a common problem all over Europe, indeed all over the world, before modern plumbing. I feel the video maker is reaching for it, literally.

Louis XIV was the first social media star of the world. All his kingdom just watching him and wasting their lives. Certainly knew how to be the centre of attention.

You said in the Versailles hygiene video that the were housecats everywhere. Visitors would bring their pets and (sadly) the roads were littered with dead kitties

the egyptians lived some 3000 years in the pyramid yet we do not hear about them shitting around. how was this possible in the 17th century is still beyond me.

'WHAT IS WAS LIKE TO LIVE AT VERSAILLES WITH ALL THAT SICKNESS HE HAD' you should do a video about for to keep from the fairytale - to the REALITY.

Seeing all of these serious comments make me feel inferior. I just came after school because it said piss boy and I thought it was funny.

After seeing your video about medieval castles, is it just me or does Versailles sound dirtier than those, despite the extravagant decor?
reply

Louis was born in the wrong era He wanted people to watch and admire him at all times lol so im sure he would of loved social media.
reply

God Versailles France is as tacky as Versailles Orlando. The only Versailles that I think is tasteful is the one on Long Island
