However, the Asmat tribesmen promised revenge on the white tribe. They waited for the opportunity to strike back.
November 19, 1961, they noticed Michael swimming to the shore. He swam for nineteen kilometers (twelve miles) and he was exhausted.
They pulled Michael ashore and killed him with spears. They cut off his head, cooked it, and ate his brain. They removed his entrails. His legs and arms were thrown onto the fire and then shared as a meal with everyone present. His bones were used to make daggers, fishing spears, and religious icons.

I saw a huge amount of videos about Michael Rockefeller. He came to the shore at the same night exausted and could barely move. He was found by his two previously hired tribe members who just abandoned the catamaran, him and his partner and made it to the shore. They were hungry and were looking in the moor after something to eat. Poor Michael just came at the right time! They murdered him quickly and ate him during the days. His skull was later brought by some detectives to his grieving mother. Michael should just had been staying at those catamaran! And not running into his gruesome fate! Absolutely horrifying.

He wasn't there for Art History. That being said, they knew how dangerous men possessed by demons can be. Why not send him in with a small team of men armed to the teeth. Just a bit of trust, which i know is hard, but possible, and this could of been avoided. Sorry for the loss.
