Weird History is taking you back to the year 1985. We are mid-80s, the middle of the decade would be the catalyst for such great movies as Back to the Future and Rambo: First Blood Part II, Mike Tyson's first professional fight, and the start of such great 80s TV hits like MacGyver. Take a trip back to 1985 with us as we cover the news, culture, sports, entertainment, and all that was weird in the year 1985

Bill Elliott was a beast in 1985 winning 11 races which includes 3 of the 4 crown jewels: The Daytona 500, The Winston 500 (after coming back from 2 Laps behind due to a cracked oil line) and The Southern 500 which earned him the nickname Million Dollar Bill
But would fall 101 points short of the Championship to Darrell Waltrip Even though he had 8 less wins than Bill Elliott
DW had more Top 5s (18 > 16, more Top 10s (21 > 18) and a better Average Finish (7. 3 > 8. 7) resulting in his 3rd and final NASCAR Cup Series Championship

This video also mischaracterizes the so-called Twinkie defence. In reality, Dan White's lawyers never claimed that his supposed Twinkie addiction caused him to murder Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk. They argued that he killed them because he was already mentally unstable for other reasons, and his compulsive gorging on Twinkies was merely a symptom of his underlying mental illness.

I know for a fact some of Route 66 is still usable and does meander through a couple of ghost towns in SW Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. I discovered it west of Oklahoma City when I had programmed my GPS to avoid the trucking scale on I-40 back in 2013. The bridges were a bit hairy and the pavement was certainly crumbling, but I did find it to be navigable.

Even though I loved many movies from the '80s it seems like that 1985 had the biggest list of good movies of the decade. I was 14 and that was also the year I got my first girlfriend. It's my favorite year of the 1980s and probably my growing up life.

A defining year for teen movies: Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, The Goonies, Weird Science, Teen Wolf, Real Genius, Just One of the Guys, The Legend of Billie Jean, Fright Night, etc.

When I tell people that Liberace was an official at the first Wrestle Mania, They say I must have been high in those days. Yes, I was high almost DAILY back then. Doesn't make me wrong though. LOL

I was 11. Never got into the video game craze & still dont like them. But the movies, tv, & music were awesome that year & the rest of the 80s. How I miss Betty White & the other GGs.

Funny how CHINA thought George Michael had more morals than Freddie Mercury. I think they take acts like that in China to the rooftops these days. I'll bet back then too.

i learned alot growing up in the 80s, mostly how to induce the most amount of pain and damage on other human beings, and i learned a great hatred for other people.

Considering how much Disneyworld trips cost nowadays, it pretty much costs the average AMERICAN citizen a months' pay for a trip for his/her family!
