Iran-Contra did greater harm to the USA than Watergate did, because it showed what a criminal administration could get away with if Congress and the Press didn't do their job! Sure, it's easy to blame to Congress' half-assed approach: the Iran part was separated from the Contra part and handed over to a three-man committee, two of whom VP Bush would give cabinet appointments when he became POTUS! (Pretty corrupt) But I also blame the mainstream news media, who changed the subject to the inadequacy of the DEMOCRATIC Presidential candidates, a whole year before the 1988 primaries! True, the conservative press wanted a distraction from the scandals, but for most reporters the Seven Dwarfs were simply a safer target than the White House.
The legacy of Reagan's war crimes going unpunished--for crying out loud, Oliver North escaped doing his COMMUNITY SERVICE! --can be seen in the lawless actions of Bush Jr. and Trump in more recent years. Big White House scandals used to happen every 50 years (Grant, Harding, Nixon); now they're happening every 10 or 12 years!
Nixon would have been impeached, but resigned.
Reagan should have been impeached, but got away with it.
Clinton shouldn't have been impeached, but was and survived.
Bush Jr. should have been impeached, but was discredited anyway.
Trump was impeached and should have been removed, but was defeated anyway.

Many of my colleagues and I on the frontlines of healthcare. Share an opinion based on decades of observation.
It perfectly highlights the Yul Brenner story, and his admonition to not start smoking [good advice] but, it's the irony surrounding his quitting in '71 then dying of lung cancer in '85.
What we've noticed, is that people who have been life long smokers, then quit. Usually develop lung cancer at a faster rate, and usually shortly after quitting. Than those who've continued to smoke, despite a plethora of other pulmonary diseases. I can not tell you how many times, I've had to provide news of an incidental lung cancer finding on xray. Only to hear. I quit smoking 6 mo or a year ago. Compared to those who still continue to smoke.
THIS IS IN NO WAY SCIENTIFIC, ONLY OBSERVATIONAL. AND IN NO WAY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AN ENDORSEMENT TO CONTINUE SMOKING, OR BEGIN SMOKING. IT IS SOLELY ANECDOTAL.
