The Real Inspiration for The Jungle Book Was a Boy Raised By Wolves

Many believe that Dina Sanichar, the Indian wolf boy, was the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling's famous work, The Jungle Book. Just like Mowgli, Dina was a feral boy raised by wolves, although his life was quite different from his fictional counterpart's. Mowgli the man-cub entranced readers with his fascinating upbringing. After wandering into an Indian forest, he was adopted by the animals who fed, protected, and sheltered him. Dina, too, was raised by wolves. But the boy who inspired Mowgli did not have such a fantastical life

If you've never had a wolf hybrid (ours was 7/8ths wolf and 1/8 husky) and a baby-toddler at the same time, I can personally tell you that our wolf definitely did adopt our little one and fiercely loved and protected our entire family from anyone or anything he saw as a threat. I absolutely believe that it's very possible for wolves to raise a human child. Nobody (and I mean NOBODY) ever dared to try to do any harm to our child first and then us as parents. He (the wolf) was and still is one of the best dogs I have ever personally had. He's long gone now but he has not been forgotten.

My sister's best friend Jordan had a daughter who liked to run around with messy dark hair and a diaper at 2 years old she called her Moglie like the character here. Jordan died by a self inflicted gun shot wound due to problems of this life, she is dearly missed. Her uncanny funny behavior. I thought I'd share as this reminds me of her daughter mostly of Jordan. She deserves to be remembered. Thanks for reading.

This really supports the nature vs nurture argument in that nurture is more prevent. Look at Dina. Naturally he is a human being with a brain that could develop enough to learn all these skills such as speaking, reading and writing, however if nature is the winner in this debate then you can start asking the question of 'why he could not pick up human skills that come with nurture? '

I know this is horrible to say but they killed his mother (wolf) it was probably very traumatic. I kind of think they should have left him be. I know they did the right thing by helping him, it did not. I cant imagine the depression from being taken from everything they have known. Honestly Id rather be with animals, they are much better than humans for sure

Major brain development happens in the first few years of life. If deprived of proper interaction, the brain would be substantially disabled for normal human behavior and abilities. It would be very difficult, maybe impossible, to overcome that later in life.
Don't think foregoing pants would be desirable in cold weather, or actually any time. lol.

Good grief! There was even fake news way back when. Wolves will not raise a human. Nor anything else except a wolf cub. Anyone who claims different is a liar. I can't help but notice that that those who support this fiction all reply with how they raised this that and the other. Talk about conflating something! This is extreme.

wolves are very smart to understand that a boy was a cub notice how all dogs are extremely careful with babies.
And wolves could have seen the boy as the lead of a pack because boy was larger than wolves. This shows how wild animals can be pure smart, caring and are willing not to hurt little souls

I think these stories are fake! I don't think it's possible! Especially the idea of eating, if you ever see how wolves eat, the idea that a human could somehow navigate that complex hierarchy and then, eat and digest all the raw meat like that, that just doesn't make any sense! I'm calling bs!

Why couldnt they just leave him to live with his family? I mean the wolves are the ones who raised them and even if they were born humans they were raised as wolves they are wolves in their heads no matter what! Im sure it made them unhappy to be forced into habits they didnt grow up with

I feel like he developed the vice for smoking since the burning smell probably reminded him of the time the hunters set their cave on fire, shot his wolf mother and took him away into a different kind of life. It's basically a trauma for him and smoking is his way to relive his past.

I have lived with humans for 55 years and I can fully understand why anyone would not fit into civilization.
Humans can't live with them, can't legally hunt them, and now they tell me can't use them as shark bait, anymore.

Some cultures abandon physically and developmentally disabled infants and leave them to die. Its possible that the wolves in some cases dont kill and eat the children. Very strange in any case.

If the kids were left w the wolves, they definitely could have kept living into adulthood. Forcing feral ppl to join civilization should be 100% illegal & a felony.

There was time when English people used to think that they are best civilized race. now they feel guilty for the past Nd became overly gentleman

Seems like it may have been a tradition for population control and it shows that humans are more toxic to this world than any animal

What wild animal would you want to be raised by? I said your mom out of reflex. My wife is looking at me like Im a twonk. I am sorry.

The parents probably left him as a toddler after noticing he was mentally challenged. They wouldn't be able to care for him.

Friars: that day you were brought to the orphanage was your most memorable moment in life. But to me? It was Saturday.

I wonder why he didnt like cooked food. My dog always prefers cooked food even if I present him the nicest raw pieces
