For the healing of the nations there must be good will and charity, confidence and peace, President Calvin Coolidge declared at the end of 1923, as the shadow of WWI continued to loom over America. What was life actually like in the decade that came to be known as the Roaring Twenties? While most history textbooks emphasize the country's recovery from war, the 1920s were full of great change and progress for many Americans. During this decade, the economy doubled, meaning people bought more goods and had more time to invest in leisure activities. It was an era of seemingly endless prosperity, which came to a sudden halt when 1929's Wall Street crash triggered the Great Depression

My mom told me that her grandma or my great grandmother who was a young lady in the 1920s in American colonization of the Philippines she went to compete in beauty pageants for prizes, it was an era where beauty pageants came into popularity. which still is a huge thing for some Filipinos until now.
My great grandmother was one of the upper middle class of the Philippines and she was lucky enough to enjoy old fashioned record players, electricity at home, telephone, and even had radio by the end of the 1920s. Must be a fun time if you are rich enough and be trendsetters. I guess hardly has ever changed now.

Calvin Coolidge was president during most of the 1920s. He was a great president because he kept the federal government from attempting to the be the savior.
Herbert Hoover was the president when the stock market crashed and beginning with him and then exacerbated by FDR, federal government involvement (interference) increase the intensity and duration of the depression
Jack Dempsey was a hugely popular athlete in the 20s
Films were silent until talkies began in 1929.
Joseph B Babcock is seated with Douglas Fairbanks (it appears. Physically, he was a beast.

The best part of making alcohol illegal. it didt stop real alcoholics quit drinking which the temperance movement who pushed that law said was the point. if you were physical addicted to alcohol you could get a prescription and go get some at the pharmacy which im sure many more people then ones who were physical addicted used that service. all that law did was effect the poor and they ended up drinking poison just because they would get physicaly ill. if they did not drink. also it just made big business for the mob. pointless law actually created more crime and problems.

I barely remember when I was a kid when the first tvs came out. People went crazy over it. We were scared to watch it but we couldn't help it, we couldn't keep our eyes off it. People use to think it was evil because people would be afraid to watch it and would get cold chills/goosebumps when watching it lol. We were so innocent back then.

The US passed all other nations to become the richest in the world by the 1880s, but in the 1920s, they started putting long distances between them and everybody else. We had way more cars per capita than anyone else, way more radios per capita than anyone else, when those were the top technologies of the time. Europe was in the rearview.

The ouija is not allowing you to talk to relatives. Thats ALL demon interaction.
They will interact with you.
God and His side will interact with you too.
God does not enjoy performing parlor tricks for enjoyment purposes though.

Like hearing about the 20s because I like art deco architecture and Tiffany lamps. I would like to see history on 1940s America. I like to listen to music from the 20s to the 40s. Maybe also you can do something on that?

And the Klan (6 million strong) in marching Washington DC. they had too much time on their hands with racism.
Edit: lol damn sure had a bunch of time to watch Birth of a Nation. That movie was like 3 hours long. :/

I wish they would list a song list of the song they use in the background. I'm actually a modern day Lindy hooper and those songs would be perfect to play at dances. If u know where to look there's lots of us

I like to think I lived a past life in the 1920s, the music of the era is my favorite, and Nosferatu is my favorite vampire movie, Im fascinated by early cinema, particularly taboo horror movies.

Its interesting to see the movies were so popular in the 1920s but they are having hard times in the 2020s. Makes sense, would you rather watch a movie or stay home and listen to the radio lol

Why are you showing TV? That didn't come out until the late 40's and became common in the 50's. You have also freely mixed in various film clips from the 30's and 40's. Very misleading.

Just a fun reminder that in a few decades school history classes will be talking about the 20s were living through now.
What do you guys do with your free time during these boring 20s?

What did Eisenhower have to do with highways in the 1920s! He was in the military during that time. Yes he was behind the interstates after WWII, but not after WWI.

I was born in the wrong time period. This was when you could really feel alive. When men were men and you could sit atop a flagpole long enough to maybe wow a gal.

Weren't people of all ages also working 12+ hour days in factories, children included? Life wasn't all parties, movies, and speakeasies for the working class.
reply

It's nearly the same as today men& women looking for love making mistakes but settling down until old age comes and they lament not doing more with their lives.

How did they stay on the flagpoles for so long? Where did they poop? Just right there? Did everyone watch? This is gonna keep me up at night.
