Pressing History's Most Painful Death

Europeans were creative when it came to torture. They developed some of the most excruciating and slowest methods of torture in history, including the horrific blood eagle torture method. But one of the worst forms of torture was not even considered torture by the court. It was an official sentence: pressing to death. The men and women who were sent to death by crushing in Britain had not been found guilty of any crime

Torture must have been simply academic, you are going to be out to death anyway. Or simply added punishment to the inevitable sentence I guess. Making it public maybe dissuaded others from like behavior.
I guess torture wasn't about executing someone
but about punishment.
There were hundreds of them, and they were all horrible. I can't imagine having the task of having to choose one form over another. Three things had to be tolerated: the pain itself and it's intensity, the duration or length of time it took to finally die, and worse than any physical was psychological pain.
I imagine that prolonged physical or psychic pain or even an extended confinement would no-doubt eventually result in insanity.
Most torture aims at physical pain for a long as is possible to keep the subject alive. But no matter what it is, this would probably be over with in less than an hour.
Personally, I'd be more afraid of the true endless
protracted and prolonged agony of torturing the mind. 'Cutting' and it's treatment and most especially the terror behind it's variations could go on for perhaps as long as 10 days. Sleep deprivation and starvation would be worse than burning or strangulation. The Oubliette might be employed. There are tortures of the mind that are simply too horrible to avoid the onset of complete madness far too soon to justify it's use.
But if I had to choose one hoping to get the most out of all three, - 'Crucifixion' would be my choice.

If you think that Europe was the only place conducting these sort of practices you need to study more history. The things the Japanese did to POWs during WWII were even worse, and what the Congolese soldiers are currently doing to their fellow countrymen and women today is some of the most barbaric things I have ever heard.

I am not sure if i am right but from all the movies and documentaries i have seen about old Britain i reached the conclusion that the worst place to be born in those days was england. From corrupt priests to mad kings and queens it was hell. But i guess all the empire were like that in old days

Giles Corey was actually one of those accusing Martha Corey. Just being related to a convicted witch was enough evidence to be suspected yourself no matter what stance you took. Guilty by association. It was why Giles Corey was arrested despite being one of his own wife's accusers.

From purely biological standpoint burning is the most painful way to go the slower the worse it gets.
That is just how our nervous system is rigged. However psychology has always been the main component of both torture and death penalties.

Amazing how none of this is weird history, it's human history, it's horrific human history. It exposes the very nature of the way people hate each other enough to subject them to death in the worst way imaginable. Welcome to Earth.

What disgusting savage behaviour were practiced in history and not even that long ago. I am ashamed of humanity. Who ordered it and who complied to put the weights on. Who watched. How heart breaking how truly disturbing

I think the Chinese would give the Europeans a good run when it comes to torture especially their death by a thousand cuts and the bamboo torture where bamboo would be allowed to grow through your body.

So they literally press you for answers, got it. probably where the saying came from. or hard pressed for answers or whatever you wanna insert there and possibly the, it's not a pressing matter

What this illustrates to me is although we have changed our laws and feel as if we have 'progressed', when the mob decides to act, even in 2021 we are no different than these barbarous idiots.

Leaders, whether Royalty or politicians have always been thieves that act as if they have your interest at heart but nothing could be father from the truth. Its all about them.

Thinking of how the term pressed is used in present its a bit funny to hear him say she was pressed to death. Maybe its just me, anyways, makes sense where the term came from.

These were all murders. All these people using this were murderers. And they all would say god is on their side.
These people still exist. A lot of them in the USA.

What about the friends who jumped on top of the dude's press to end his suffering? I feel like that would be a rather pressing offence at the time lol
reply

Wow, its kind of crazy to me how little has changed with regard to the way that the poor have apparently always suffered more simply for being poor.
reply

I'm curious as to who thought up some of the most crazy ways to torture and kill fellow humans? Like who thought pressing was a brilliant idea?
reply

And it happened once in the U. S. During the Salem witch trials, Giles Corey was pressed to death. As far as I know, he was the only one.
