Had a dream of being an astronaut when I was a kid, and knew in order to get there, I wouldve had to have joined the Air Force. I had a mild obsession with airplanes, and the Concorde was one of my favorites (second to the SR 71 Blackbird.
I was on my motorcycle on I5 from Renton, WA heading to Seattle on the day and the moment that Concorde was landing on the Boeing Runway to reach its final destination.
When I saw it in the air, I recognized it immediately, and instantly felt a feeling like I had just met a famous celebrity for the first time. I cant remember if I got to see it touchdown, but I remember watching most of its landing decent from the interstate in awe. It was a complete coincidence that I happened to be on the strip of highway near the field and to notice the plane. One of my favorite memories that Ive all but stopped sharingmany I had told didnt seem to have an appreciation for the history and engineering behind the Concorde as I did.
Im very grateful for this snippet and an opportunity to share a beautiful memory which formally had a less relevant appreciation.

Another thing that contributed to Concord's discontinuation that you didn't mention was the lack of technology available on the flights. Also the cabin was relatively tight for such an expensive flight. Newer planes have much more room for travelers who can afford travel on such expensive tickets. The extra time on a conventional flight could be spent in a roomy seat that might recline into a bed. Not to mention all the video tech on more modern aircraft. That was definitely part of the decision to discontinue Concord service. At least that's what I read. I can't afford to fly first class or even business class. My 25 year daughter can do that but not me. Heck last time she visited me she was bummed that the regional flight she had to take to get closer only offered something called Comfort Plus and there was no, um, adult drink service. At ten in the morning.
She's my girl for sure. I was the same when I was younger.

I live not too far from JFK, and when I was a kid, I lived even closer to the airport. I used to watch Concorde land from a distance from my room window, and if I were with my mom and grandmother on some weekends, we were lucky enough to watch it take off, too. When I was in elementary school, we did a class trip to JFK, and we got to sit in a Concorde. Crazy small on the inside, but such an awesome plane. The thing I remember when watching this video was about six months before Air France 4590, there was an article in the paper that they found hairline cracks in the wings of a few Concordes. I thought that was odd, then the crash happened and I remembered that article. Just a sad day all around. I hope SSTs make a comeback, though.

I was lucky enough to fly on the Concorde because we had a friend at BA who told us that they were repositioning a plane from Washington to London after a charter. The tickets were way less than normal price (however not exactly cheap) and you had to know someone to get them. Amazing, and I am so, so grateful to have had that experience! The cabin was small, the windows were small, but it was very comfortable and the food was great. The meal was more like a business class tray service than a full on European first class service. I would imagine this was due to space issues on the aircraft, as well as time. The flight was about three hours I believe. I feel very, very lucky and was so sad to see it go.

It was not long before tragedy would strike?
Planes where reaching end of life, without a single accident in the whole fleet during service.
Mention another plane that had such a security record.
And even then neither of the causes of the accident was the plane or its design.
Oh and regarding costs, the last years of concorde where the most profitable. On top of that for the airlines, saying the first years were a loss is wrong. It was all gains, cause they never payed for the planes.

I love Concorde. Its my favorite plane of all time. Even it was retired, I was born 12-24 1/2 hours before the F-BTSCs (AF4590) demise, and its negativity, Im still love this plane and I do have a plastic model of the BA Concorde given to my cousins husband (turned out he is a retired aircraft mechanic. I also remember that my friends and former classmates also calling me that there is a Concorde fliying overhead in school, which obviously it was retired long ago. (Greetings from the Philippines)

I saw it on fire from one of the trains. I was in Paris, on my way home from working in Algeria. I had flown in the day before from Hassi Messaoud, and had gone to the city to have lunch and was on my way back to my hotel by CDG (I think it was the Holiday Inn) when we all saw it fly by with fire coming out of the engine. My train went into the tunnel by the hotels right before it crashed, so I didn't see it crash, but I walked over the hill to the crash site after I got off the train.

Your vid is disappointing. It does not tell the facts as to why this aircraft was really scuttled. Facts are
1. The airport costs to accomodate this supersonic jet grew hugely. Costs of maintainance became so high that it became impossible to recoup them
2. Fuel costs ran rampant.
The fire was u fortunate but not the showstopper you paint it to be. This tells me that much of your videos are in fact skewed to sensationalism rather than fact.

The debris was from a DC-10, I believe it was an engine part but not one of the ones that would have grounded the plane. The plane was a regular and had taken off right before concord and was heading to Houston. An investigator got a quick glimpse of it taking off on another flight, and saw that it was missing this part which was the major turning point I t be investigation. I watch a show called air disasters.

Never profitable? Bollocks! On the French side, yes, it always made a loss. On the UK side, incorrect. British Airways ran Concorde at a profit for many years.
As for US Congress, they were just pissed the US didn't develop/make it so decided to make life difficult for the aircraft.
And I flew on Concorde in the 1980's. A magic plane.

I was at the EAA one year in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, USA. The Concord was there, and when it took off, it flew directly overhead, and my sister and I screamed at the top of our lungs and we couldn't even hear ourselves because the engines were so loud! That thing looked amazing, like something superheroes would user to fly around the world!

Er, just a minor point about the content and the very end of this video - do they think that calling an aeroplane BOOM Supersonic is really a good idea? That name really doesn't conjure up a whole lot of confidence in any supersonic aircraft especially when we take into consideration what happened in Paris in 2000, does it?

I was lucky enough to fly on the Concorde from NY to London. The ticket price was a hair over $10k, which was a gift from a friend. Honestly, the cabin was claustrophobic and the air quality was damn near toxic. I cashed out the return ticket and flew a regular jet back home.

By the time they retired the Concorde the fleet was already old. If you don't build new ones you are in violation of aviation laws. However great to see supersonic flight is about to make a comeback. Should be sustainable in this day where technology is so much more advanced.

Incorrect. The concord landed in Seattle, Washington in the 80s. They landed it at king county airfield or (Boeing field) near r th museum of flight for a tour. So it has landed at other airports.

Its never known as the Concord, just Concord. Also, you say it wasn't long before tragedy struck. . 4, 900 take offs on the crashed plane, and 30 years.
This is a poor video.

Theres an old Concord sitting next to the tarmac at Heathrow. Whenever I pass it on a plane taxing out to the runway, I get a pang of sadness that Ill never get to fly in one.

There are so many poorly built and maintained space and aircrafts cruising around over the planet. It's like having a scrapyard circus above, rattling around 24/7.
