They should have just gotten another drummer. Bonham was not the greatest drummer that people say he was. He was good, but not great. They could have gotten dozens of better ones. If you think his solo on Moby Dick was so great, compare it to Deep Purple's Ian Paice from the Made in Japan album of 1972. Paice blows him away with a combination of rudiments and rhythms. There were many others that blew Bonham away, such as Carl Palmer, Phil Ehart, Barrimore Barlow, Done Perry, Neal Peart, Cozy Powell, and the original greats, Buddy Rich, Louie Belson, Gene Krupa. The list goes on and on.

It's rather surprising that for all the hell-raising antics Bonzo pulled it was really bluster trying to cover up the sensitive soul that he was and the total dedication to his family he felt that touring tore him away from. One things for sure-you did not mess with his family and/or friends because he was fiercely protective of them. The fact he was helping his dad move into his own estate the day before he died showcases this dedication. The tour was supposed to be the relaunching of Zeppelin in the punk era as many considered them on the ropes-Bonzo's death sealed the deal.

But at their first rehearsal, she got tired after playing Black Dog. The first number they rehearsed with her. She couldnt play anymore. These songs are tougher than I thought! They let her keep the $4 million and disbanded.

I had tickets to see Zeppelin at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit on the 9th? 19th? of October 1980. I remember it being only 2 weeks or so before the concert that he drank himself to death. I was 14 and cried like a baby when I heard the news on WHNN, the rock radio station I listened to in Midland MI. It would have been my 1st concert. Bonzo has been one of my greatest heroes for a long time, but I'll never forgive him for being such an idiot and drinking himself to death as a FATHER. RIP, Brotha.

When I was learning the drums I would put on black dog on the headphones and try and sit with bonham. It was very frustrating cause I could never get that funky feel. It took me ages. . But bohnam no doubt was the the greatest in my opinion. Great feel, groovy, hard hitting, clever, inventive, great timing, showmanship, without Bonham, Led Zeppelin would have been just an ok rock band. With bohnam they were the best ever. In my humble opinion

I am a little confused by this. I like the video on how you portray the events of John Bonham but while I was watching this I thought to myself that John Bonham was put to sleep on his side? I don't understand on how he died then, How does someone choke on their vomit while being put to bed on their side? I would assume that the vomit would just run out the mouth or be spit out?

If Im correct John Bonham read that article in 1975 and at some point in 1976 Led Zeppelin recorded the album (Presence)There is one song on that album named (Achilles Last Stand ) I read somewhere on the Internet that John Bonhams drumming on that song was possibly his best, or one of his best drumming. I thought his drumming on that song was extremely impressive.

Amazing that they didn't get this guy some help, but I got the feeling that he was done, wanted to quit anyway, and how do you face the guilt of that right before a tour? In the end, nobody gives a shit about us except us and we have to take our power back and say NO. He should have said no but he would have been hated for breaking up the band, so. he dead instead.

I don't know, he must have taken a lot of pills or other stuff that day too. Vodka was my drink of choice and there have been times when I know for sure that I'd had around 30 shots of Smirnoff in a day. I think I heard he had about 40 on the day he died? Bonzo was a lot bigger than me too. Gone way too soon RIP.

Im confused In through the out door was released in august 1979- Bonham died Sept 1980- how can you say it was released 5 weeks before his death? And it was only 18 months break in touring from 1973- 1975- not 2 and a half years. Some fact checking seems to be in order

I was never a huge fan but I am partial to their tune Going to California with Black Dog a close second. I can't stand Stairway though. Couldn't go to any party in the 70s without some kid whipping out his electric and playing a usually, badly botched version of it.

My question is did Bonzo feel inferior because a Woman was voted a better drummer than him? Like you got to think about the times they were living in. I can see how that would discourage him if he felt like that.
